Even though she was at work, Sara felt at ease, as if she were home. She took out her phone and happily surfed the web, occasionally laughing and singing along to TikTok tunes. Sara had never worked before, so she didn't understand the company's regulations and ignored the boss's attitude. She only cared about her own emotions. Mark noticed this and approached her desk, lightly tapping on it, his tone commanding attention. "Yesterday, I was busy and couldn't guide you. The company's regulations are simple: do the tasks the boss assigns well. Since you're new here, you need time to adapt, and I believe you'll do well."

Mark speaks slowly and places a stack of documents on the desk, neatly arranging them, looking at Sara with a hint of sympathy.

"This is your first task. Review all the reports from the departments and then write a summary of the key points. To make it easier, I've listed ten main points; you must base your summary on them to complete the assignment. Then, submit it to me for review to see if it meets the requirements or needs revision. Many people think the secretary's job is simple: making coffee every morning, printing documents, and keeping track of the boss's schedule. Still, in reality, it's much more demanding. The secretary is an assistant and an advisor, and all documents must be carefully reviewed before being presented to the boss to avoid mistakes."

Mark's attitude was earnest and even stern. Sara truly didn't understand why she had to do this. She wasn't a highly skilled assistant or a person educated by him. Simply put, she was here for a business deal that would last only three months. "Aren't these important tasks your responsibility?"

Mark frowned, his gaze avoiding hers.

"I'm only saying this for your good. Just focus on your work, and if you don't understand anything, ask me."

Sara glanced at the tall, thin silhouette disappearing behind the door, then looked back at the towering stack of documents, feeling melancholy. She had always been allergic to words and numbers. That's why she preferred things with lots of colorful, eye-catching images.

Seating into the chair, Sara couldn't hide her exhaustion as she picked up the first document to read. Before finishing the first page, she flipped to the second and the third, but they were all identical. The cramped sentences stretched from one line to the next, and the charts were nothing but a jumble she couldn't understand. Sara frustratedly slammed the documents down on the table, leaned back, stretched out her arms, and muttered under her breath, "Damn this guy." Suddenly, her phone rang. Sara glanced at it and saw Jessica eagerly waiting for her to update them on the current situation.

"Are you okay? Is Leon giving you a hard time?" Jessica asked.

"I haven't even seen his face. His obnoxious assistant gives me a stack of reports to read and summarize. I've never done this stuff before; it's so boring." Sara sighed, her face displaying a sarcastic emoji. "You're already looking like a real office staff. Who knows, maybe you'll become a real senior assistant in three months? I'm worried." Jessica sighed, piquing Sara's curiosity. "What are you worried about?"

"I'm worried that the "our luxury friends group' will lose a VIP member like you." Jessica laughed teasingly, poking fun at Sara.

"It's going to be a long time before that happens. I'm a die-hard fan of "luxury life." Even if they try to kick me out, I'm not going anywhere."

"I'm serious, though. Are you sure Leon has no intentions towards you, or maybe ... an old flame love suddenly resurfaces?" Jessica sent a cute cat emoji peeking through a door, eager to hear more.

"Don't beat around the bush; he's the kind of person who's like a stone, an iceberg that's been around for thousands of years, thinking he's noble and doesn't let anyone into his heart. People like him fear others tarnishing their golden reputation," Sara declared confidently as if she had just stepped out of Leon's mind.

"How do you understand that so well? You two must have..." Jessiaca's excitement grew as she spoke as if she were listening to narrating a romantic love story.

"What are you talking about? A teenage romance is just youthful folly, nothing serious. How many people end up with their first love anyway?"

"Oh, I see. But even so, that romance must have kept you up many nights. Now that you've met again, why not give it another try? I once read a book that said the boy you meet at eighteen might not walk with you for life, but fate has a way of bringing certain people together," Jessica spoke like a playful kitten telling a love story while also playing matchmaker.

"If you have so much free time, go replace love for yourself. Don't worry about others' affairs," Sara retorted.

"The fortune teller said, 'Your destined love will come on a summer day, a curly-haired boy with a scholar's face and a deep voice like a melodious melody.' So, if you see anyone like that, remember to let me know," Jessica continued, indulging in her matchmaking fantasy.

"Fine, when I'm out, I'll watch for any creature like that and send you a picture. But what if it's not summer but spring?"

"Just hold onto it, and when summer comes, send it. The fortune teller said arguing with him would ruin things," Jessica quipped.

"OK. I won't talk to you anymore. I have work to do," Sara said, hanging up and pushing her phone aside, looking at the stack of documents before her with a weary shake.

She picked up the financial report for the first three months of the year and read it attentively, but in reality, nothing was registering in her mind. After reading a few lines, she put it down, contemplating what Jessica had just said. Perhaps he had forgotten everything from before, but there had once been a close bond between them.

Sara rested her hand on the table, lifting her chin, gazing at the closed, silent room before her, whispering, "He's not the same Leon as before. If only I had known..."

Suddenly, she stood up, clutching a folder of documents, and pushed the door open, stepping inside. Leon looked up in surprise at Sara standing before him, unable to hide his confusion.

"Why is Miss Roberts here? Isn't your workspace outside?" he asked, puzzled.

"I have a question about this report, so I came to ask you," Sara arrogantly cut to his word.

"Didn't Mark instruct you to come to him with any questions?

You're new here; if you don't understand the rules, how can I trust you with important tasks?" Leon's gaze sternly rejected Sara's request, almost as if intentionally provoking her.

"I don't understand why I must do this meaningless task..."

"Isn't it for that project? For the benefit of your family? Everyone has their motives for their actions, including you, Miss Roberts," Leon returned to focusing on his computer screen, deliberately ignoring the presence of the beautiful girl before him.

Sara was infuriated and stepped closer, swiveling his chair towards her and speaking firmly.

"You're either deliberately trying to make things difficult for me, or you're avoiding me because of our past..."

Before Sara could finish her sentence, Leon abruptly stood up, glaring directly into her eyes, his eyes flashing with anger like a thousand sparks.

"I don't care about the past. The Leon you knew is dead. Today, I stand before you as a mature man who understands life and discerns right from wrong. Here, I am the boss, and you are the secretary. Conversations should be kept within appropriate boundaries. Someone like you wanting to negotiate business with me is still very inexperienced and naive."

"What did you say? Repeat it!" Sara couldn't hold back her loud shout.

"I said, what can you do if you can't even understand a simple report? Oh well, Miss Roberts, you're the type who was born with a silver spoon in your mouth, never having tasted the hardships and brutality of the business world. Someone like you, how could you be qualified to be my partner? I don't know what courage you came here with, but today's Leon is all myself-made. I will never break my principles for a foolish past relationship," Leon spoke.

"What principle?"

"Never use an ex-woman again, especially an ex-lover." Leon bowed low and leaned into Sara's ear. Very heavy words were said clearly and slowly, making her so angry that she wanted to cry immediately, but the confidence and arrogance of a girl who had never bowed to anyone showed her confidence. No one would allow her to do that.

Sara lifted her head, meeting the deep, searching gaze of the tall man before her, unabashedly responding.

"You speak, you let's remember. I won't break your principles but make you break yourself own."

With that, Sara turned and walked away without remorse, leaving the man behind to be consumed by his fiery anger. He never expected the once weak and naive girl to respond with such bitter words, but it was all because he had pressured her.
