Chapter 612

Brittany took the item and opened it to replace a picture of a couple.

Lionel was stone-faced, while the woman next to him was beaming, seemingly full of love..

They were a perfect match in terms of appearance, background, and aura.

"Congrats!" Brittany's eyes were filled with well wishes. "I'll definitely be at your wedding. Then Hannah and I will be your relatives!"

Lionel chuckled at that, reaching out to ruffle Brittany's hair. "I'm going home."

Brittany got out of the car, watching Lionel drive away.

Once Lionel got home, Blake had just wrapped up work and was about to head to the hospital.

"Have you told Brittany about our family's wedding plans?"

"I've told her." Lionel took off his coat. "The wedding preparations are going smoothly. Everything's set for next month."

Blake wasn't exactly thrilled about the wedding.

Although the Chester family wasn't as wealthy as the Salter family, they'd done well over the past five years, becoming one of the city's rising elites. "Are you sure about this?" Blake was no fool. He could tell Lionel had feelings for Brittany, but Brittany had always seen him as a brother. "Dad, I've made up my mind," Lionel said as he pulled out a chair to sit. "We have a lot in common, and she's a great girl. I enjoy her company." To him, marriage was just a transaction.

It didn't matter who the other party was or whether there were feelings involved.

Blake didn't push any further. "Alright, have it your way."

After Blake left, Lionel headed upstairs.

His fiancée called. Her voice was tinged with excitement. "Lionel, are you free tomorrow? Do you want to go pick out wedding dresses with me?" Lionel checked his schedule, He had a meeting.

"Put the dress bill on my tab tomorrow. I'll replace someone to go with you. I have a meeting."

There was silence on the other end of the line. "Alright then, get some rest."

After hanging up, Lionel removed his shirt and headed straight for the bathroom. The warm water washed away his lingering desires.

Back in the hospital room, Daniel jumped off the bed in a hurry. "Mommy"

Brittany put down her stuff and quickly rushed over to push him back onto the bed. "Stay in bed. Your head wound hasn't healed yet." Daniel clung to her. "Where did you go?"

When he woke up and didn't see Brittany, he'd been throwing a fit, scared she didn't want him anymore.

Brittany pinched his cheek. "I just went out to clear my head."

Daniel didn't buy it. His eyes were full of doubt. "Mommy, do you not want me?"

Just like those past five years, she seemed unwilling to accept him.

It hurt Brittany to hear that, but she instinctively shook her head. "No, I never thought about not wanting you."

The past five years had left Daniel with a deep-seated fear of losing Brittany.

Brittany kissed his forehead. "I'll never not want you. Never."

Hearing that, Daniel was content.

Brittany asked, "Are you hungry?"

She'd been gone for a while, which might have left Daniel starving. She asked him again, "Do you want to eat?"

Daniel responded, "Daddy gave me chicken porridge. You can feed me."

Daniel pointed to the thermos on the bedside table. Brittany picked him up, propped him up with pillows, and opened the thermos to replace the chicken porridge still hot.

She fed Daniel with a small spoon while he watched her intently, eating happily.

Just as she was feeding him, the door suddenly swung open.

Isaac Salter immediately spotted the invitation on the table. He picked it up and saw that it was from Lionel.

A flicker of gloom passed through his eyes. "Lionel's getting married. Are you going to go?"
