Isaac was worried sick about Brittany.
After all, carrying a child was no walk in the park.
"It's okay."
Lately, Brittany's morning sickness had eased up a bit. Though still uncomfortable, it was a marked improvement from the beginning.
Isaac scooped her up and held her close. "I'm sorry."
It was his carelessness that had put her through this ordeal.
Brittany immediately covered his mouth. "Don't say that. I'm thrilled about the baby."
She paused. "I've forgotten a lot about the past. I don't remember how I felt when I was pregnant with Daniel, but I can imagine... I must have been so excited for her arrival." Having grown up without a family, her ultimate dream had always been to have a complete one.
Isaac felt a pang of sadness and hugged her tighter. "Pregnancy is tough, and I feel terrible for not being able to ease your burden."
But Brittany didn't see it that way. "It's hard, true, but I'm happy."
Her eyes shone with sincerity. "Zak, I've never been happier than I am now. Every day, I look forward to our child's birth, no matter if it's a boy or girl. I'll give them all the love I can." Isaac kissed her forehead, his heart melting. "Come home with me tonight."
"But, Dad-"
"I've missed you so much these past few days. I worked overtime just to make it to this dinner. I haven't slept in over twenty hours."
Seeing his weary expression, Brittany relented. "Okay."
Isaac called Nathan Jarvis. Moments later, Nathan got into the car.
The black sedan sped off toward the villa Isaac had bought, right next to the Lynette Mansion.
Piper, out for a stroll, recognized the car and gasped when she saw Nathan-Isaac's right-hand man.
What was he doing here? And who was in that car with him?
The villa's interior, cool and aloof, mirrored Isaac's own personality. It was Brittany's first visit, and she was full of curiosity. "Zak, let me down. I want to explore our home."
Isaac, dead on his feet, had intended to take her straight to bed. But her mention of "our home" made him relent, and he set her down. "I'll take a shower. Come replace me afterward." "Okay."
Brittany wandered the villa, her eyes wide. The place was spacious, with a fully equipped kitchen boasting fresh fruits and vegetables in the fridge, including grapes fresh from the vineyard, still dewy.
After sampling a couple of grapes, Brittany thought about checking out the garden but then decided to head upstairs, concerned for Isaac. There would be plenty of time for exploration later.
The suite was massive, with 360-degree floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the night view. The thick carpet felt soft under her feet as she moved around the expansive room, complete with a living area, bathroom, study, and walk-in closet. The sound of running water from the shower ceased, and Isaac came out, wrapping his arms around Brittany from behind. "Like it?"
Brittany had always loved floor-to-ceiling windows for the night views they offered. It was something they had wanted since buying their first house together.
She nodded eagerly. "I love it."
"Go freshen up."
Heading to the bathroom, Brittany handed her phone to Isaac. "Call Dad, will you?"
