Isaac had been running around like a headless chicken all week.
Between collaborating with Elijah and drumming up publicity for his upcoming public announcement, it was a whirlwind.
Finally, after a long day of meetings, he managed to send Nathan on his way and pushed open his front door, only to be greeted by the sound of the TV. There on the couch, Brittany had already drifted off to sleep. He tiptoed in, shedding his coat and rolling up his sleeves before gently lifting her into his arms.
Brittany, a light sleeper, stirred awake but didn't fuss. Instead, she wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist, murmuring, "Back so late?"
"Yeah, work's been crazy," Isaac murmured back as he carried her upstairs, his hand soothingly rubbing her back, "Feels like you've gained a bit of weight." Brittany yawned, "Pregnant, it happens."
Unlike some, Brittany's skin remained stretch mark-free during her pregnancy, her belly as smooth as porcelain - a testament to her unique physique and perhaps the essential oils she used.
Isaac settled her onto the bed, asking, "Have you eaten?"
"No," Brittany replied, fighting off sleep as she pulled up a sonogram on her phone to show him, "Went for a check-up today. Here's the baby's photo."
Isaac examined the sonogram closely. Though the pregnancy was only a couple of months along and the baby was tiny, the image was incredibly reassuring.
"How did the doctor say you're doing?" he asked after a moment.
"The doctor said the baby's healthy."
"I meant you."
"Stomach's been acting up."
Isaac frowned, "I'll ask Nathan to replace you a doctor."
"Will it affect the baby?"
"Not at all, it'll be fine," Isaac assured her, "What do you feel like eating?"
"Some soup would be nice."
Seeing how tired she was, Isaac suggested, "You get some sleep. I'll wake you up later for food."
Brittany, wrapped up in her blanket, quickly fell back into a deep sleep.
After a shower and changing into something more comfortable, Isaac went downstairs to prepare dinner. Their time together was limited, with Brittany resting at home due to pregnancy discomforts and Isaac swamped with work. So, he cherished every moment they had together.
Once dinner was ready, Isaac rolled up his sleeves and went back upstairs.
Finding Brittany still asleep, he gently woke her, "Come on, let's have some dinner before you sleep again."
Groggily, she asked, "What did you make?"
"Remember how you loved that shrimp soup?" Isaac cradled her in his arms, careful to wrap her in a warm jacket before carrying her downstairs, "I made some for you. And there's your favorite, honey-glazed ribs."
The aroma of the food seemed to revive Brittany, who perked up at the sight of the lavish dinner.
Isaac pulled out a chair for her, served her some soup, meticulously peeled the shrimp for her, and placed it on a plate in front of her, "Eat slowly."
Brittany sipped her soup, while Isaac, after ensuring she had enough shrimp, quickly finished his own meal so he could focus on making sure she ate well.
Satisfied and full, Brittany finally asked Isaac to stop, "That's enough, I can't eat anymore."
"Alright," Isaac relented, "You relax in the living room, I'll clean up the kitchen."
Brittany protested, wanting to help.
But Isaac wouldn't hear of it, "Just rest. I'll be with you in no more than ten minutes."
Despite her protests, Isaac was firm, and eventually, Brittany agreed to wait in the living room.
After tidying up the kitchen, Isaac prepared a glass of nutritious smoothie for Brittany, "Drink this slowly."
Brittany, however, was too full to even consider it.
With the smoothie in hand, Brittany joined Isaac in the living room, where they snuggled up on the couch, enjoying a rare quiet moment together.
On TV, a popular drama unfolded - a story of love, betrayal, and the high-stakes world of the ultra-rich, a fitting backdrop to their peaceful evening.
