Chapter 800

The mother and daughter rode in silence..

Willa could not help but shed tears while Kari, with a rough guess of what was happening, kept her face stone cold.

Back home, Willa turned to Kari. "You and Nathan are finished."

Kari stood frozen in place. "Mom, you have to give me a reason."

Willa inhaled deeply. "Samuel killed your father. I would rather die than agree to this marriage."

Kari was taken aback.

"Mom..."

"If you don't break it off within three days, prepare to bury me."

Willa was unyielding, a stark contrast to her usual gentleness.

After she left, Kari stood still, speechless.

A perfect wedding had turned into a disaster.

When Nathan arrived, Kari was blunt. Nathan tried to salvage the relationship, but Kari firmly sent him away.

"Nathan, we're done." Kari pressed her lips. "My mom will never agree to us being together. My dad died because of your father. We have no future."

Then Kari closed the door.

Nathan refused to leave.

But the Jarvis family came and took Nathan away.

Brittany texted Kari. Kari replied with a simple 'I'm home safe' before turning off her phone.

Their wedding was called off.

Kari collapsed on her bed, feeling as if her soul was drained. She was in a daze and could not even muster the strength to cry.

She loved Nathan and wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. But she could not. Her mother was more important than Nathan. The fact that Nathan's father was her father's killer was a painful reality. She could not, and would not, have any contact with Nathan.

Brittany wanted to visit Kari, but Isaac stopped her. "Don't go."

Isaac had looked into the whole matter. "Kari won't be with Nathan anymore."

Brittany took the documents from his hand. She skimmed through them.

Just as Willa had said, Caleb had died in a car accident. And the culprit was Samuel.

The Jarvis family had spent a considerable sum to settle the matter back then. Willa refused the compensation, took Kari, and moved to Imperial City. But fate had brought them back together. Brittany slammed the documents shut. "What now?"

She had not expected Kari's life to resemble a soap opera plot.

"The killer of her father is proven." Isaac was helpless.

Brittany gave Kari leave from work, expecting her to rest at home. But the next day, Kari showed up at the studio.

"Brittany."

Brittany saw Kari's immaculate makeup and radiant smile, seemingly no different from before.

"Kari, why aren't you resting at home?"

"Brittany, I want to work."

Kari's smile was strained, "I'm sorry about yesterday."

Brittany tried to console her.

"Brittany, I'm fine."

Karl knew what Brittany was thinking. She did not want sympathy, nor did she want to think about yesterday. She just wanted to work. Brittany did not stop her.

Kari threw herself into work, becoming a workaholic.

Nathan stood outside the studio every day for half a month, never leaving.

Mila showed up a few times, even resorting to physical force, but could not make Nathan leave.

Willa, fearing they would reconcile, agreed to move in with Kari.

Willa's stance was clear. Kari had no choice.

Once again, as Kari left the studio, she saw Nathan waiting outside.

He looked much worse than before. His handsome face was pale, with dark circles under his eyes.

"Kari..."

Kari stepped back. "Don't come any closer."

Nathan looked wounded. His lips trembled. "Kari, I'm sorry, I didn't know what my father did...”

"Nathan, let's part on good terms." Kari pressed her lips together. "I'll transfer you the money for the wedding."

She paused. "If you really feel guilty, don't show up again."
