Chapter 807
How could he end up with someone like Kari?
Ronald, despite being a product of a passionate affair, had a reputation for being ruthless,
a trait that had endeared him greatly to the Hall family.
Rumor had it that he might have been the next heir of the Hall family.
If Kari ended up with him, it might not be such a bad thing after all.
"Miss Malone."
Megan bore no ill will towards Kari. Given Kari's current stance, it was evident that any chance of reconciliation with Nathan was unlikely. Therefore, Megan had no intention of causing harm to Kari.
"I must apologize for any offense in the past. We're likely to cross paths often from here on out, so let's look out for each other, shall we?"
Kari had no desire to mingle with Megan, or anyone associated with the Jarvis family for that matter.
"Miss Campbell, Nathan and I are done. There's no need for us to be in each other's orbit anymore."
Already in a foul mood, Kari's patience had run thin. She left Megan with those parting words and headed straight for the private dining room.
Ronald had done his homework on Megan, aware of her ambitions to marry Nathan. His eyes narrowed as he spoke, "Miss Campbell, Kari has made herself clear. If you can't handle your side with the Jarvis family, I'll have to step in myself."
Megan didn't want to cross Ronald. It was well-known that he had inherited the Hall family's notorious ways and was a tough nut to crack. Crossing a man like him would be a serious mistake.
"I understand," she replied.
Ronald entered the dining room to replace Kari had already ordered.
Kari tried to distance herself from him, "Ronald, I thought the heiresses the Hall family introduced you to were quite charming. Don't you fancy any of them?"
Ronald's assistant's face turned to stone.
Did Miss Malone really not know, or was she pretending?
Ronald gestured for his assistant to leave before taking a seat and offering Kari a drink, his voice smooth and deep, "I thought my preferences were evident."

Kari took the glass but didn't drink.
"I'd give up if I were you. Even if Nathan and I are done, I won't be with you."
Until she turned eighteen, Ronald was her dearest and most trustworthy brother. However, after that, he became her nightmare. For a prolonged period, every time she closed her eyes, thoughts of Ronald haunted.
Ronald knew Kari didn't share his affections, but he was always a patient hunter.
He had all the time in the world to wait for her to come to him.
"I'll take care of things with your mom, but in return, you can't see other men."
Kari agreed without hesitation.
"Fine, as long as you get my mom off my back"
Constant surveillance was suffocating.
Ronald had chosen Kari's favorite restaurant, with dishes tailored to her taste.
He preferred bland foods, while this place specialized in fiery Cajun cuisine.
Kari noticed that Ronald had barely touched the dishes since they were served. She saw an opportunity. Deliberately, she picked the spiciest dish and placed some in Ronald's bowl, "Care to try?"
Ronald looked at the food glistening with hot oil, met Kari's challenging gaze, and knew it was intentional.
Without a second thought, he picked up his fork and ate everything she had served him.
Kari was taken aback.
He had always had a sensitive stomach, to the point where Willa even mastered the art of cooking bland dishes.
Kari had meant to provoke him, but to her surprise, he actually ate it.
Ronald wasn't conventionally attractive, with a shadow of grimness from his years behind bars, and his chiseled jawline exuded an unintended chill.
He ate quickly, and his face flushed as if scorched by flames with each bite.
Kari felt deflated, failing to see him struggle, "I thought you didn't eat spicy food?"
"If you give it, I'll eat it.'
Ronald took a sip of water to quell the heat.
Something heavy seemed to hit Kari's heart, leaving her momentarily dazed.
Ronald, ever observant, knew she had softened.
