Johnathon POV

"How dare you embarrass me like that Johnathon" Charlotte stormed as I stared at her stony faced. "I can't believe you tried to divorce me on the spot for somebody like her." "Somebody like her," I said incredulously "Somebody like her?" my voice rose "Flair isn't just a nobody Charlotte, heck she's even above you, she's a bloody Grant,"

I was still in a state of disbelief as my wife glared at me, both of us in the back corner of the party room, my head bowed down as I faced my wife's anger.

"You think she's going to take you back?" Charlotte prodded me with her perfectly manicured fingernail, right in the chest as I winced from its sharpness "I've got news for you Johnathon. You should count yourself lucky to be with somebody like me" she hissed as I looked up and met her blazing eyes "how dare you try and fling our marriage away as though it means nothing."

"I just wanted..." I trailed off.

The truth was, I wasn't sure what I wanted. When I had heard Flair being announced as the missing Grant's daughter, I had thought it was a practical joke initially. I mean how could I have spent three years married to her and have no clue she was a Grant? But lan and Knox had hugged her and her father had tears in his eyes. My stomach had churned and the disquieting notion that Flair had failed to notify me of her real identity the entire time we were married to each other had set in. There were so many missed opportunities over the years that the Grant name would have opened doors to. That's what angered me the most and Flair had the nerve to act nonchalant about it. Like she'd done nothing wrong in keeping her secret.

"I'm not the only i***t" I snarled causing Charlotte's eyes to widen and for her to take a step back "Weren't you the one boasting that you were going to befriend the missing heiress? How do you think that's going to go for you now Charlotte" I said sarcastically as she flipped her hair over her shoulder and pouted at me.

"It makes no difference to me that Flair is a Grant," Charlotte said while I snorted and looked at her skeptically "My end goal is the same. Regardless of what influence she has at her disposal" she sneered, her lip curling "I still intend to get my hands on my family's company. She still has to play by Grandfather's rules" she smirked.

Is that all she could think about? That damn company? She was watching Flair from a distance, my ex-wife mingling with the crowd, standing out in her royal blue dress, the smile on her face lighting up her face as she spoke to her friends and those who wanted to introduce themselves to her.

"Maybe we should give up on getting the company and just let Flair and Grayson have it" I muttered.

"Like hell, we will," Charlotte said sharply "I would never simply just give something over to my brother, let alone his wife. Stop acting so defeated Johnathon" she snapped, "and start acting like a damn man who has some balls. God where is the man I married." I glared at her. She was seething. I could see her struggling to maintain what little composure she had left. My eyes glanced back to Flair. Jealousy shot through me as I saw Grayson wrap his hand around her waist. It was sickening. Nauseating. Infuriating. "How could you not know?" Charlotte demanded again as I shook my head at her "three f*****g years Johnathon and not even a hint that Flair was somebody else?"

She sounded incredulous and quite frankly part of me didn't blame her.

I felt like a fool. I felt so betrayed as I stared over at Flair. I wondered if this was some sort of sick revenge aimed at me because of the divorce but if it had been she could have taken this a lot further than she already had. I rubbed my forehead feeling weary and drained. "Charlotte I already told you. If I had known who she was, do you think I would have been caught cheating on her with you?" I said icily.

I would have had the sense to be more discrete at the very least. It was too late to change things now. Charlotte folded her arms across her chest and glared at me, hard.

"Whatever it is you are feeling for your ex-wife, you better get over it Johnathon," she said frostily "When news of this breaks, you're going to be splattered all over the newspapers as the poor misguided fool who didn't know who his wife really was in real life." I hadn't considered that. I bit my lip and sighed. "It can't be helped," I said tightly.

Charlotte looked like she wanted to tear me limb from limb. She stomped her foot and I inwardly grimaced at her dramatics. She was embarrassing me but hadn't I already done the same to her?

"I can't stand it," she said, almost wailing while some of the guests took a deliberate sidestep away from us "In one night all of the attention is being taken away from us and and..." she blustered "All eyes are on that b***h" she finished lowly, turning to whip her head and stare at an oblivious Flair.

"You knew the attention was going to be on the heiress tonight, whoever she was," I said simply.

"Yes, but for it to be on her, Flair" she sounded revulsed "it's not fair. She's already taken so much from me."

Her tone was filled with maliciousness. She was taking this more personally than she should have been. From her? We were the ones who had been cheating behind Flair's back. I struggled to comprehend what Charlotte meant. "We both know that Grandfather has a liking for Flair. Just wait until he replaces out her identity" Charlotte said moodily "he's going to be even more excited than he already is. Damnit" she swore, ignoring the disgusted looks of the crowd around us "It's a good thing..." she swallowed hard and trailed off. "It's a good thing what?" I asked dumbly.

"Nothing," she said quickly "nothing at all. I merely meant to say it's a good thing I've made preparations to get the company."

Her words sounded hollow. I was not convinced and I knew she was lying. She gave a long drawn-out sigh. "I just want to go home, Johnathon. I can feel people staring" she said, which wasn't a lie, "and I'm no longer in the mood to party."

"We can't leave until we bid goodnight to the Grants" I pointed out.

She exhaled, gritting her teeth. "Then, by all means, let us bid them a goodnight" she bit out tersely.

She turned and strode towards Mr Grant who was accompanied by lan and Knox, his two sons. I was relieved that Flair was doing the rounds of the room with Grayson in tow. "Mr Grant" Charlotte said warmly, pasting a fake smile on her face "Thank you so much for your invitation to the party tonight" she gushed, putting her hand in his as he looked at her taken aback. "Miss Deluca," he said, removing his hand and wiping it on his coat "I do not recall inviting you" he peered at his sons.

"I invited her and her husband father" Knox spoke up casually, his lips curving into a small smile as his father peered at him "I thought it was only right that Flair's ex-husband and the woman he was sleeping with learned who Flair was."

"Quite right" muttered Mr Grant looking at me hostilely. "The ex-husband I presume," he said arching a brow at me as though unaware of who I was even though he had just seen me not that long ago.

I coughed. "Johnathon Deluca," I said extending my hand and blatantly ignored "I was married to your daughter" I finished weakly.

God, I wish the floor would swallow me whole. The way Mr Grant and his sons were eyeing me, I felt I was lucky to still be in one piece. Charlotte was tactless. I'm sure that you are happy that Flair has found happiness with my brother, who happens to be a Deluca himself, even if he doesn't use the name" she said tartly.

"Ah yes, I forgot for a moment that Grayson was also a Deluca," Mr Grant said stiffly.

"Well, you can't help who your family is" Knox broke in cheerfully "And I must say Grayson is one hell of a guy. I always wanted a brother I could use as a guinea pig in my projects."

That sounded ominous. lan shot his brother a look while Knox shrugged nonchalantly. Mr Grant coughed, although it sounded close to a laugh to my ears. "Yes, well Mr Oakes is quite admirable and his character has proven to be one of loyalty and professionalism." It sounded like an insult aimed at me. I blinked. Charlotte was biting her lip and blushing profusely.

"We merely wanted to come and bid you goodnight," she said quietly, looking downcast and no longer as haughty. "Thank you for a nice party," she said lamely.

Mr Grant inclined his head "I wish I could say it was a pleasure to have you here" he paused and glanced deliberately towards me, his body language stiff and openly hostile "but that would be a lie. Feel free to see yourselves out" he continued and then stepped away abruptly, leaving Charlotte's mouth opened in shock, while lan and Knox smirked and walked away.

I felt humiliated as I turned around and made my way towards the doors, no longer concerned if Charlotte was following behind me or not. I needed to get out of there. Everybody had seen Mr Grant openly snub me. Not to mention his sons follow suit. My steps were hurried as I went towards the limousine, Charlotte's heels clacking behind me. The driver barely had time to open the door before I slid inside, closing my eyes and listening as Charlotte got in beside me. "Where to Sir?"

"Home" Charlotte shouted, as I opened my eyes "If you think you can manage that."

Neither of us would look at each other as we silently made our way back to the Deluca mansion, the both of us silently fuming and more than ready to tear each other apart at the slightest provocation.
