The Billionaire’s Hidden Heiress -
Chapter 108
Flair POV
I stumbled sleepily out of bed, feeling myself become queasy as I staggered to the bathroom, my legs feeling like jello and unable to support myself, my hand catching on the doorframe as I quickly bent over the toilet bowl and retched up what little stomach contents I possessed.
A hand carefully pulled back my hair away from my face as I continued to dry heave, wrenching and gasping. Grayson's eyes were filled with concern. "Did you have too much to drink?" he asked.
"I'm not sure. I've never been much of a drinker" I answered truthfully as I carefully wiped my mouth with some toilet tissue and flushed the button "but I didn't think I overdid it last night."
After all, I had maybe at most three glasses of champagne the whole night. Still when you weren't used to drinking, maybe that was still too much for your body to handle. I began to brush my teeth as Grayson reluctantly let go of my hair. "Your father was pleased with your performance last night" he murmured "he couldn't stop boasting about how proud of you he was."
I gave a long considering smile "he likes you. If he didn't you wouldn't be standing there right now" I teased.
He chuckled and ran a hand through his hair. "The bodyguard is already establishing himself in the backyard," he told me with a sigh "while another one keeps himself hidden in the front."
"Father just worries for my safety," I said, spitting out mouthwash and turning to face him "Once this all dies over, we won't have to be so worried about it."
"I already organized a security person" he grumbled "Now we have three on the house."
I laughed and headed back into the room. I turned on the television as I went to get dressed, Grayson already beginning to pull his sweatshirt over his head.
"The secret heiress of the Grant family has been revealed for the first time in the public eye in what was the event of the year, as they took the opportunity to announce the new CEOs of the company at the same time."
A picture of myself and Grayson was plastered on the television. "Flair Oakes, wife of Grayson Oakes is none other than the secret heiress Flair Grant, who has kept herself hidden from the public for the last twenty-something years."
I sighed "I should have known it would be all over the news" I mumbled, turning to my dresser and rifling through it. "It's because it's interesting. Give it a week or two and..." Grayson began to say when his cell phone began to ring. Roscoe sprang off the bed and began to bark excitedly as Grayson held up a finger, trying to quieten the dog. "Shush Roscoe" he hissed "Yes this is Grayson Oakes. No, I do not want to give an exclusive story in regards to my wife."
He hung up and flung the phone on top of the bed in exasperation. "Bloody vultures" he grumbled.
I rubbed my forehead. I could feel a headache behind my eyes as I shimmied out of my clothes and into a comfortable mid-thigh maxi dress. My stomach gave a loud rumble, causing Grayson to raise a brow. "Somebody's hungry" he commented with a chuckle.
I frowned at him "I didn't eat much at the party" I confessed "I was so nervous. My stomach feels like it's eating itself alive."
He laughed and began to get dressed into his suit. "Grayson," I said surprised "you're not going to go to work today are you?" I asked.
He sighed "I don't have a choice. I have to. Since Johnathon's clients have been coming to me, the workload has more than doubled. I haven't hired any new lawyers yet to keep up with demand."
"I pulled out my investment," I told him quickly as he looked at me "he has to pay me out.""
"Good," Grayson said exhaling "although after last night he's probably worked out you're the foreign investor unless he's truly an idiot."
"It will be another thing that he'll be sorry for," I said shrugging as we began to head down the stairs "but I was planning on using the money that he gave back to donate to the animal refuge, unless you object to it?" I asked.
He gave me a look of astonishment "Flair, that's your money. I don't care what you do with it. I just didn't want you helping to prop up Johnathon's business. If he hasn't paid you out by now or cared enough to pay his debts then it's bad business" he explained "I would rather you not lose the money you put into it."
That made sense. I smiled and headed to the kitchen, making a cup of coffee for both of us. "What do you want for breakfast?" I yawned.
"Why don't I make it?" he began and then the doorbell rang.
"Don't answer that, let the bodyguard open it if it's safe" he said hastily when I made to move towards the door.
The door slowly opened. "Mrs Oakes it's safe" a voice called.
It was the bodyguard. I stepped forward and relieved him of the large bouquet of rainbow flowers he was holding, thanking him profusely.
There was a large card included with the flowers as I placed them gingerly on the benchtop of the kitchen counter. "Who sent you flowers?" asked Grayson interested.
"I was hoping they were from you" I countered making him smile sheepishly as he shook his head regretfully.
I opened the envelope and inhaled. "It's an invitation" I murmured, grabbing my coffee and sipping it.
"Invitation?" he asked, beginning to open the fridge and peer inside it "Invitation from who?"
I laughed. I couldn't help it. "It's from your grandfather," I said as he turned around to look at me.
"It is? What does he want?" Grayson muttered.
I passed him the invitation "We're invited for dinner" I said casually "he wants to speak to Mr and Mrs Oakes, aka Flair Grant and her husband."
"The old bastard has seen the news," Grayson said with a grimace "No doubt it's to take me to task for not telling him who you were."
I frowned "I don't think that's it. I don't know but I've always felt like your grandfather knew who I was even if he didn't say it. How do you think he's doing? I'm worried about his health" I added.
"He's fine. I have a maid keeping a close watch on him. If anything happens or his health takes a turn, she knows to contact me immediately" Grayson said, giving up on replaceing anything in the fridge.
"You mean you planted a spy on the inside?" I gasped in mock outrage "Grayson Oakes how cunning of you."
He chuckled and kissed me on the forehead. I leaned against him, feeling sleepy still. "I'm just going to order myself something at the office," he said with a shrug "Do you want me to order you something before I go?"
I shook my head "I can organize something" My eyes lit up "I feel like those vegan donuts that they sell at that mall nearby."
"Donuts for breakfast?" Grayson asked surprised "What happened to the healthy, nutritious, live well Flair?" he joked.
"I don't know, I just really feel like donuts," I said nonchalantly and he grinned.
"Well have at it then. I'll come home early so I can get ready for dinner with you" he said drily.
I kissed him lovingly on the lips. "Tell Timothy I said hello" I chirped.
Grayson pulled back and grabbed his briefcase. "Is there any chance you could arrange for the suit that I wore last night to get dry cleaned?" he asked hurriedly "I think we need to get a housekeeper or something. It's not fair that you do everything and honestly, it would mean the fridge would always be stocked and somebody could cook our meals. Think about it" he advised, heading out the front door as I waved goodbye, my free hand creeping down to pat Roscoe's head as he whined in disappointment.
"It's okay Roscoe," I said as he wagged his tail "Dad will be home later," I told him giggling. The bodyguard ducked his head in and then shut the door firmly behind him. I grabbed my coffee mug and fought off a wave of nausea as I put it towards my lips. Strange. I gripped the counter tightly with my fingers. Perhaps I needed to drink more fluids and get some more water into me I thought with a shudder. I brought the coffee to my lips and the smell drifted towards me, making me gag. Suddenly the smell was overwhelming to me. I narrowed my eyes and then tipped the liquid out, no longer desiring the caffeine fix. Roscoe whined and pawed at me as I smiled down at him. "What's wrong boy?" I asked, grabbing my phone and beginning to search through it.
He merely c****d his head and regarded me. I put in the order for donuts, my mouth watering at the thought of them. I sat back and then heard the sound of the front door opening and the bodyguard cautiously calling out "Mrs. Oakes, there is a Rachel here to see you and a package of donuts" he added as I grinned.
Trust Rachel to want to come and talk about the party the next day. I got up just in time for Rachel to hug me, placing the donuts on the coffee table.
"Girl, what's happening?" she said laughing "Since when do you eat donuts this early in the morning?"
"Since now" I mumbled, reaching eagerly for a donut and inhaling its magnificent scent, nibbling on it as the delicious taste brought tears to my eyes.
Rachel leaned back and shook her head "Timothy had to go to the office" she sighed "So I thought why not get some work done, but I don't think you are in a state to do any" she added watching me.
"So good" I mumbled around the mouthful of donut.
Rachel's eyes were dancing "Are you sure you aren't pregnant Flair? Cause you're practically making love to that donut right now" she teased and the mouthful of donut got caught in my throat as I began to choke and she rushed to whack me on the back.
