The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 110 Mutual Torment
"Wait, what?" Emily blinked in surprise, caught off guard.
Daniel chuckled awkwardly, but he couldn't hold back any longer. "I know this might seem sudden, but we've known each other forever, and it's crazy that we live so close. Emily, I want to be there for you and this baby..." Emily's heart pounded as she realized Daniel was confessing his love!
Her mind raced, but she knew she had to stop him. It just wasn't possible between them.
Emily had never imagined, nor dared to think about, marrying into another wealthy family.
So she decided to play it cool. "Daniel, I get it. You want to look out for me because we went to the same school and studied the same major."
"And I know you want to be the Godfather to the baby, but families like yours have their own rules. I think it's better to forget it. When the baby is born, you can visit anytime. He can call you Uncle Daniel, how about that?" With that, Emily flashed a polite smile.
"I'll go check on Abigail in line. Honestly, I'm starving." Emily said.
Without waiting for Daniel's reply, she quickly walked away.
She couldn't handle Daniel's feelings and subtly made it clear they were from different worlds; marrying into another wealthy family wasn't what she wanted after her divorce.
But Daniel didn't get it. So what if he was from a wealthy family? He couldn't change that. But he loved Emily and admired her, and that was his choice. Emily needed to face his feelings head-on.
Meanwhile, Michael never thought eating Japanese food could make his heart race. Was it because of Emily again? They were connected. Whenever something happened to her, he felt it.
But why was Emily's heart racing now? Was she getting close to Daniel?
Michael's eyes widened, and anger surged through him.
Just a few days ago, she was throwing up, feeling sick. Now, after leaving the Smith family and seeing Daniel, her heart was pounding like a schoolgirl with a crush. Was the Smith family, and he, Emily's curse? "Michael, try this. The sashimi is amazing!" Sophia said sweetly.
Michael suddenly felt irritated, lost his appetite, and put down his utensils with a heavy sigh.
Sophia looked surprised. "Michael, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I have some work to do at the office. You go ahead and eat." Michael said.
He pulled out a wad of cash, placed it on the table, and stood up to leave.
"What? Michael, are you serious? You're leaving already?" Sophia said.
Her flirty tone couldn't stop him.
Sophia's face fell, deflated like a punctured balloon. They hadn't even been eating for three minutes, and he was leaving! What did Michael take her for?
But upon thinking carefully, Sophia realized that Michael had been acting weird lately, not as patient as before. Was it because of that witch Emily again? Weren't they supposed to be getting divorced soon? Why was there no progress?
Thinking about it, Sophia lost her appetite. She threw down her knife and fork, paid the bill, and stormed out of the Japanese restaurant, fuming.
As night fell, Emily said goodbye to Abigail and Daniel and headed back to the old mansion alone. She had packed Mason's favorite fish soup.
The fish soup was just an excuse; Emily really wanted to use this chance to say goodbye to Mason and leave the old mansion. With Michael spending all his time with Sophia, it felt wrong for her to stay there.
Plus, Emily had more important things to handle, so she needed to settle things with the Smith family first.
But what Emily didn't expect was that leaving a wealthy family wasn't as easy as it seemed.
After a few days of peace, trouble brewed again in the Smith family.
Emily ran into Michael at the front gate. She hadn't expected him to come back to the old mansion every night these past few days, instead of staying out with Sophia.
Given the big issue at home, it made sense for him to stay home for a bit.
But after what happened at the Japanese restaurant, Emily didn't want to talk to Michael. Even when their eyes met, she treated him like he was invisible and tried to walk past him. "Emily," Michael said, grabbing her arm.
"What do you want?" Emily's tone was cold.
"Do you have to talk to me like that?" Michael asked, confused about why she treated him so differently from Daniel.
"What tone? Didn't you use the same tone with me and my friend at the Japanese restaurant?" Emily shot back.
Michael was momentarily stunned, then laughed bitterly. Emily was clearly standing up for Daniel.
Michael's eyes fell on the fish soup in Emily's hand. "What's this?" he asked.
Emily didn't want to engage, so she answered flatly, "Fish soup."
Michael misunderstood. Anger flared up inside him, and he knocked the fish soup to the ground. Then he grabbed Emily, pulling her into his arms, not letting go despite her struggles and curses. "Michael, you're crazy! Let go of me!"
Driven by possessiveness, Michael held Emily so tightly it felt like he wanted to crush her, to merge her into his own body.
Emily struggled to breathe, pounding on Michael's back with all her strength, forgetting about the wound on his back.
Each hit made Michael's face pale with pain, cold sweat covering his forehead, his heart feeling like it was being twisted by a knife. But he had no intention of letting her go.
"Emily, I forbid you from leaving. Even if you die, you have to die in the Smith family, as a ghost of the Smith family," Michael said.
His words struck Emily like lightning. She felt like every inch of her skin was being torn apart, the pain penetrating deep into her bones.
At that moment, Emily's emotions collapsed. She fell into Michael's arms, crying. "What did I do wrong... Michael, why can't you just let me go!"
