The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 117 Public Relations Clarification
"Dad, did you call just to pick a fight?" Emily asked.
"Fight? Emily, listen up. If you're planning to trash Sophia's reputation and grab all my shares in Brown Corporation, forget it!"
Before Emily could say anything, the call ended abruptly.
She had just finished making a pot of porridge and was about to ask Lexine to take it to Veda at the hospital.
Out of nowhere, Hayden called, and as soon as she picked up, he started yelling, saying the most hurtful things.
Emily took it, but today's sudden public backlash also blamed her. She couldn't wrap her head around it. What would she gain from this?
First off, she was set to get a hefty sum from the Smith family after the divorce. Second, getting the Brown Corporation's shares was already a done deal, so why resort to shady tactics? It would only backfire on her. It seemed far-fetched.
But then again, this public opinion storm did seem to benefit her the most. But all she got was some online sympathy. What else?
"Emily." As Emily was lost in thought, she suddenly heard someone calling her.
She turned and saw Mason coming down with a cane. "Grandpa, lunch isn't ready yet. Why did you come down? Are you hungry? I made some porridge. Want some?"
Saying this, Emily went to help Mason. But Mason waved her off and looked at the ring on Emily's finger, perfectly intact and noticeable. Mason nodded in satisfaction.
"I was upstairs with nothing to do, and you had someone cut off the internet. I can't play games, so I came down to bug you," Mason said.
Hearing this, Emily lowered her head, embarrassed. Mason really knew everything; nothing could be hidden from him. "Grandpa, how did you know..." Emily started.
"You guys are too green to hide things from me! I know what's up. Isn't it just Michael's scandal?" Mason said. Saying this, Mason turned and patted Emily's arm. "You've been wronged, Emily."
Seeing Mason's calm demeanor, Emily felt more at ease and began to ask him. "Grandpa, do you already have a plan?"
"What plan? Public opinion is one-sided now. Now that Michael is at the company, the only thing he can do is issue a public statement explaining the whole situation from start to finish." Mason replied.
Emily got it. Michael was about to issue a public statement on behalf of Smith Corporation and himself, which would be the strongest clarification. It would also show whether Michael cared more about her or Sophia. Would the public statement turn into their divorce announcement or an official declaration of his relationship with Sophia? Emily was unsure and felt it would be the latter.
Sitting at the dining table with Emily, perhaps seeing her worries, Mason smiled and continued. "Don't worry, even though I always scold Michael for being unreliable, I think he has good ideas in critical moments. He never lies or says things he doesn't mean. So, Emily, if you want to see his attitude, just look forward to today's public statement!"
With that, Mason called Benjamin to serve the dishes. He then touched his stomach and looked around the suddenly quiet house. "Emily, I heard you and Michael slept together last night?"
Emily didn't expect Mason to switch topics so quickly. He was just analyzing public opinion, and now he was diving into gossip. How did Mason know everything?
Emily blushed and lowered her head. "Yeah, because Michael... actually, no, it was because of the guest room, I was a bit..."
"Well, no matter what, you two aren't divorced yet, so it's normal to sleep together." Before Emily could finish explaining, Mason cut her off.
Honestly, he didn't care about the reason. As long as they slept together, he was happy!
He had no idea what Michael was thinking. But today's public statement would reveal his true thoughts!
It seemed this sudden public opinion storm really pushed this stubborn couple to face the truth!
Thinking of this, Mason was even happier. Looking at the rich dishes on the table, he suddenly had an appetite.
But compared to him, Emily wasn't feeling well, especially when she saw Anson's specialty dish for Mason, Braised Pork Belly! It was so greasy that she immediately felt nauseous. Meanwhile, Michael looked pale and exhausted.
Seeing this, Andrew quickly handed him a cup of hot tea and asked with concern, "Mr. Smith, are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Where were we?" Michael said.
"We were saying that you were just joking around with Mrs. Smith and the others, and you wanted to help Sophia describe the height of her ideal boyfriend, which is why you were standing next to her. As for the other man on the scene, well, he isn't 6 feet 2 inches, so he couldn't..." Andrew was helping to draft the public statement.
He didn't expect Michael to be so narcissistic. Explaining the misunderstanding was one thing, but he had to mock Emily's friend.
He heard that Daniel was also a rich second generation. Exposing his height like this, was it really okay?
"Very good! Tell the PR department to emphasize the height difference between me and Daniel. Also, post it on Emily and Sophia's Twitter accounts and have them retweet it." Michael said.
Andrew was puzzled. "Mrs. Smith's Twitter account is indeed under our management, but Sophia..."
"Sophia is also an employee of our company. Her Twitter account can be used by the company, especially when both the company and her personal reputation are at stake. She has no reason to refuse." Michael gave the order firmly and logically.
Soon, the clarification statement issued by the president of Smith Corporation and the PR department was posted online. In an instant, the tense cheating news turned into a humorous misunderstanding.
The trending topic quickly shifted from #Smith Corporation President Michael Provokes His Own Wife Emily with Sophia to #Smith Corporation President Michael, His Wife Emily, and Family Member Sophia Enjoy a Playful Dinner with Friend. As public opinion shifted, Michael gave Andrew another order. "Immediately trace the IP address of the person who posted the photos and news. No matter how much manpower and resources it takes, replace the mastermind behind this."
