Chapter 119 Court Summons
Emily felt a deep sadness she couldn't quite put into words. She lowered her head and let out a few bitter laughs, almost as if she was mocking herself for everything that had happened over the years. "Emily, what the hell are you laughing at? Lost your mind?" Evelyn said.
When it came to Evelyn's nasty comments, Emily wasn't one to back down easily. She had known for a long time that Evelyn was a spiteful person, someone who would stop at nothing to take over her life, the Brown family, and all of Isabella's hard-earned efforts.
So, even though she was hurting, Emily pushed her feelings aside for the moment. She looked up and stared blankly at Evelyn. "Where's my dad?" she asked.
"I don't know!" Evelyn snapped.
"Then move out of my way. I need to get my things," Emily said firmly.
"Hey! How dare you talk to me like that? I'm your elder!" Evelyn shot back, furious.
"This house is half mine. Keep it up, and I'll have you thrown out," Emily retorted.
Emily's words always seemed to hit the mark.
Sure enough, Evelyn gritted her teeth and fell silent. No matter how much she wanted to lash out, she had to swallow her anger.
The truth was, the Brown Mansion had Isabella's name on it. The whole place originally belonged to Isabella.
But thanks to Hayden's sweet talk and a misguided marriage, Isabella's property had gradually been taken over. When Isabella had her accident, the property was still in her name, so Evelyn could only just barely move in.
When Emily walked into the living room, she found Hayden lounging on the sofa, reading a newspaper.
He looked up and saw her, his expression turning sour. "Why are you back?" he asked impatiently.
Emily wasn't surprised by his attitude. Hayden always liked to play dumb.
"I need to talk to you. Let's go to the study," she said, heading there without waiting for a response.
Hayden was naturally annoyed by Emily's commanding tone. He wouldn't dare to act up around Evelyn, but with Emily, who was unwelcome everywhere, he felt bold.
"Emily, who's the parent here, you or me? Do I have to go wherever you tell me? What kind of daughter acts like this? Used to bossing people around in the Smith family, huh? Just wait until Michael divorces you. Let's see how long you can keep this up!" Hayden sneered.
When Evelyn walked in, he made room for her in the main seat and then glared at Emily before returning to his newspaper.
Seeing this, Emily let out another bitter laugh. "Is there any father in the world who mocks his own daughter like this? Well, you never considered me your daughter anyway, so don't act like my father now. I don't want to acknowledge you as my father either."
"Emily, you..." Hayden fumed.
Hearing Emily's rebellious and disrespectful words, Hayden instantly lost it. He stood up and slammed his hand on the table.
Evelyn, seeing this, wasn't surprised and complained, "Always slamming the table when you're mad. If you have the guts, kick this ungrateful Emily out!"
Hayden's face flushed. With Evelyn's constant instigation, he became furious.
He walked up to Emily, put his hands on his hips, and pointed his chin at her, cursing, "Is this how you talk to your father? Emily, it's like I raised you for nothing. I don't even want to argue with you. Just get out, and never let me see you again!" Hayden spewed all kinds of harsh words at Emily. But she was used to it by now. She just let out a cold laugh, squinted her eyes, and stared at Hayden with an indifferent expression. "You want me to leave? Fine. Just return the shares to the Taylor family, and I'll be out of here immediately."
The mention of the Taylor family hit Hayden's sore spot. The word "shares" was something Evelyn couldn't stand to hear either.
They immediately started cursing at Emily, throwing all sorts of nasty comments her way, but it was always the same old lines.
Emily was tired of hearing it. She didn't replace it novel and was somewhat immune to it. She just took out the item she had prepared from her bag and handed it to Hayden.
"What's this?" Hayden snatched it.
He almost choked when he saw it. "Emily, how dare you! You're suing me! What kind of daughter brings a court summons to her own home? You really want to cause chaos, don't you? If I had known it would be like this, I wouldn't have had you. I should have strangled you back then!"
Before Hayden could finish, he was silenced by Emily's gaze. Hayden had never seen Emily like this.
Her lips were tightly pressed, her eyes dark and sharp, as if they could turn into arrows at any moment, piercing through him, leaving him no time to dodge, no place to escape.
"I've said it before, don't consider me your daughter anymore. I don't have a father like you. Today, I brought the court summons myself to tell you, you have only two choices: either you come to the study with me and discuss the transfer of shares, or..." Emily looked at Evelyn, her face full of anger, her gaze sharp, scaring Evelyn into lowering her head in guilt.
Emily continued, "We'll see each other in court, causing a ruckus, making sure the Brown Corporation can't have peace. Then everyone will see what happens to the Brown Corporation. My dear father, you better think carefully about what's more important!"
With that, Emily coldly glanced at Hayden and continued towards the study.
Soon, she heard Evelyn's voice behind her. "Emily, forcing us like this is only bad for the Smith family! Michael just made an official statement, saying you two are in a harmonious relationship, and that you and Sophia are like family. Now you're suing us? Doesn't that contradict what he said?"
