The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 131 Come to My Side

Michael was like, "Sophia, chill out for a sec, just hear me out..."

But before he could finish, Sophia cut him off, all frantic. "How can I chill out? I can't! Michael, how can you leave me? We love each other so much! Is it because of Emily?"

Sophia was throwing a fit, and soon Ava showed up. Seeing that Emily was no longer around and that this dramatic Sophia had shown up instead, Ava, trying to maintain the harmony of the family, immediately stepped in front of them. Ava said, "Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith wants Ceviche tonight. I've already got someone to grab the ingredients. What do you want for dinner?"

Sophia pondered, 'Emily? Did Michael and Emily move back to Emerald Lake Manor? Then why did Emily move out before? This chick really knows how to play her cards!'

Seeing Sophia's furious expression, like she wanted to tear someone apart, Ava snorted and turned to Michael, waiting for his answer.

Michael said, "I'll have the same as Emily."

As soon as he said that, Ava lit up, nodded eagerly, and headed back inside. Mission accomplished.

Sophia's face darkened. "Michael, are you dumping me to get back with Emily? What about all those rumors online? Is breaking up with me your answer to them?"

Sophia was on the verge of tears. Her eyelids fluttered, and she twisted her waist, looking like she was about to "accidentally" fall into Michael's arms.

But this time, Michael wasn't having it.

"Enough!" Michael shouted.

He looked around, put his hands on his hips, and glared at Sophia. "There's a reason I want to break up, but it's not because of Emily. The online rumors are out of control, and it's stressing me out. I have a lot to handle, and I can't take care of you. Plus, the rumors are hitting you hard. I can't let you get dragged through the mud for no reason. It's not fair to you. So, Sophia, let's take a break, calm down, and we'll talk later."

Michael laid it all out.

Thinking there was no point in dragging it out, he turned and walked away without looking back, leaving Sophia mid-act. Michael still thought too highly of Sophia. He believed she could really think calmly about their relationship as he said.

But what Michael didn't expect was that the fire of jealousy in Sophia's heart was burning.

That evening, Michael got back to Emerald Lake Manor after a meeting.

Emily was already home. To avoid any drama tonight, she went to shower early.

Ava had the Ceviche ready.

Michael had been craving it but waited for Emily to come downstairs before digging in.

"Why'd it take so long?" Michael asked, frowning.

"What, do I have to time my showers now?" Emily shot back.

She pulled out a chair, eyed the Ceviche hungrily, and was about to start eating when Michael asked again, "What did you do today?" Emily's good mood took a nosedive. "Why so many questions?"

Michael wasn't mad at all. He just stared at Emily, a bit annoyed. "You're my wife, according to the law..."

Emily wanted to enjoy her Ceviche in peace, so she decided to answer him properly. "Abigail hooked me up with a job interview today." Michael asked, "You want to work?"

Emily shot back, "What, you don't want me to?"

Michael said, "I've given you plenty of money. Isn't that enough? Do you really need to work?"

Emily retorted, "Just because you gave me money, I have to stay home? Michael, are you stuck in the past?"

"I..." Michael was at a loss for words.

The smell of the Ceviche was too tempting, pulling them back to their meal.

After a while, Michael suddenly thought of something and said, "Do you want to work at Smith Corporation?"

Emily spat out a fishbone and replied without hesitation, "No."

This time, Michael couldn't hold back. "Why not?"

Emily replied, "I don't want to get in through connections."

"Who said anything about connections? It's a normal interview process. If you pass, you can join," Michael said, hesitating for a moment before trying to persuade her again. This time, he tried a different approach.

Michael said, "Are you scared to interview at Smith Corporation? You got married right after college, with no work experience. Smith Corporation isn't for just anyone." Emily asked, "When's the interview?"

That did the trick.

Michael replied, "Whenever you want."

"Michael, you said it's not through connections?"

"Smith Corporation is always hiring. If you're good enough, we'll make an exception even if we're full."

"Alright, it's a deal. I'll interview for the art department tomorrow."

"Art department? Emily, when did I say you should go to the art department?"

"I majored in art in college. If not the art department, where? Sales?"

They started bickering back and forth.

Michael realized he had underestimated Emily. She was more articulate than he thought. Actually, having her work at his company and by his side might be a good thing; she could be useful at critical moments. "Come work with me," Michael said.

Emily was taken aback, a mix of surprise and joy bubbling up inside her, like a buoy gently bobbing on a lake.

"What?" Emily asked.

"I said, come work with me, be my secretary."

Be his secretary? Seriously? Emily almost rolled her eyes. Was Michael messing with her?

Emily asked, "Are you nuts, Michael? You already have Andrew. Why do you need me as a secretary?"

Michael replied, "He's on leave."

Emily asked, "Why?"

Michael replied, "He's getting married."

Emily said, "Married?"

When did Andrew get a girlfriend? Emily was totally confused.

Michael said, "Yeah, he's getting married. So, you need to fill in as my secretary. This way, we can show the whole company we're a harmonious and loving couple."
