The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 132 Making Trouble Out of Nothing

So, yeah, it was a pretty solid way to clarify the rumors to everyone. But ultimately, it was all for the sake of Mason and the Smith family.

Since they decided to put off the divorce, might as well go all the way with it. Emily had to keep telling herself that.

"Alright, fine. I'll go to Smith Corporation and be your secretary, but it's just temporary. Once I start working elsewhere, it's got nothing to do with you," Emily warned Michael. Michael popped a piece of ceviche into his mouth, chewing and raising an eyebrow. "Sure, whatever."

Emily agreed easily enough, but when it came to actually doing it, things got tricky.

She'd never really worked before; she just did some odd jobs here and there.

So, she never had to wake up early or deal with the misery of getting up in a bad mood.

You could say she was a carefree rich housewife, but only in name, not in reality.

Early in the morning, Michael got up.

He washed up, had breakfast, went for a five-mile run, came back, showered, and changed clothes.

Meanwhile, Emily was still in bed, yawning like crazy. "What time does Andrew go to work every morning?"

Michael replied, "Five o'clock."

Emily said, "Five o'clock?"

She was totally shocked.

Just as she was about to drag herself out of bed, Michael said, "I have a meeting this morning. You're not familiar with the process, so you can come in a bit later." "Then I'll sleep a bit more," Emily said.

With that, she snuggled back into the covers, enjoying her sweet, beautiful sleep.

Michael didn't have a meeting at all. He just saw how tired Emily was and lied on purpose.

Making her get up so early on her first day would be too much. He figured she should ease into it.

After Emily fell asleep, Michael quietly walked over and smiled to himself.

What he was thinking was like a foggy mountain peak after a heavy rain; he wanted to see clearly but just couldn't.

Three hours after Michael left, Emily finally got up.

By then, it was almost noon, and she didn't have time to eat.

Ava had to convince her to shove a piece of crab stick cheese toast into her mouth.

Then she quickly washed up and rushed to Smith Corporation to report in.

She promised to be Michael's secretary, so she had to be professional.

She said she wouldn't rely on connections, so she had to play by the rules. Now that she was late, she had to get there as fast as possible.

But as soon as Emily stepped out the door, she ran into the last person she wanted to see: Sophia's mom, Evelyn.

Evelyn showing up alone definitely wasn't to visit Michael, right? Why wouldn't she bring her flirty daughter along? Clearly, Evelyn was here to see her and stir up trouble. Emily asked, "What are you doing here?"

Switching to battle mode, Emily knew she couldn't just ignore her. That would make her look weak.

Evelyn snapped, "Oh, you bitch, what a tone! Asking me what I'm doing here? I'm the mother of the future mistress of Emerald Lake Manor. I come and go as I please. Who are you to question me?"

They were a family of crazies. Spouting lies like it was nothing. She shouldn't be a mistress's mom; she should write fiction. Emily sighed inwardly, her face showing a mocking expression.

Good thing Ava made her eat that toast before leaving. Otherwise, she wouldn't have the energy to deal with Evelyn now.

Emily said, "Well, enjoy your tour. I'm outta here."

Evelyn said, "Hey, no way!"

Before Emily could take a step, Evelyn grabbed her, her face full of arrogance. "You haven't told me why you're here!"

Unbelievable. Evelyn was trying to take the upper hand.

Emily sneered and replied, "When your daughter takes my place, then you can ask why I'm here. Take a good look at Emerald Lake Manor, the new villa of the Smith family president. His current wife is named Emily. Do you know Emily? The one standing right in front of you."

With that, Emily looked at Evelyn with disdain.

Plus, she was wearing high-heeled patent leather shoes, making her look down on Evelyn.

This infuriated Evelyn.

Thinking back to last night when Sophia came home heartbroken and crying, Evelyn, feeling a surge of maternal protectiveness, slapped Emily across the face.

Evelyn said in anger, "You bitch, I knew it was you! What, living too comfortably at Emerald Lake Manor, don't want to leave? I wondered why Michael suddenly wanted to break up with Sophia. Turns out you used your seductive tricks to lure and confuse him..."

A red mark instantly appeared on Emily's delicate face.

Evelyn was sure Emily wouldn't fight back, and definitely wouldn't dare.

After all, she was her elder, her stepmother!

Then, Evelyn kept cursing, saying the nastiest things. Especially since she knew Emily was bad at retorting, she cursed even more vigorously.

Just as Evelyn was feeling triumphant, thinking she had avenged Sophia, a fiery slap hit her face, knocking her to the ground and leaving a clear handprint and a bit of blood at the corner of her mouth.

Emily's strength was considerable. Just one slap was enough to leave Evelyn stunned for a while.

Emily said, "Evelyn, I've tolerated you for a long time. I used to think of my dad and didn't stoop to your level, but you've hit me multiple times, and this time you slapped me for no reason. If you know what's good for you, leave now, or I'll call security to throw you out!"

Then Emily continued, "And, I wasn't planning to go to court. But today, you've made me firm in my decision. Your family can wait for the court summons!"

With that, Emily walked away, deliberately stepping on Evelyn's hand before leaving.

Her ruthlessness was something Evelyn never expected. When did Emily become so bold? Was she looking to die?

Evelyn felt a sharp pain, sweat beading on her forehead, and a bit of blood at the corner of her mouth.

How pathetic, truly pathetic! What was she doing here at noon? She came to stand up for Sophia. Now, not only was she injured, but she also got a court summons!
