The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 136 Murdering Her Husband
Back at the Smith Mansion.
Emily was about to head upstairs to see Mason, but Michael stopped her. "You really gonna go up there looking like that? Grandpa's got eagle eyes, he'll notice something's off right away. Come on, let's go upstairs together." Emily blushed even more, remembering the bathroom incident at Emerald Lake Manor yesterday.
Michael saw her reaction and immediately knew what she was thinking.
He couldn't help but laugh, giving her nose a playful tweak. "Emily, what crazy stuff is going on in that head of yours? Relax, I'm not gonna touch you. Not interested." Hearing that, Emily's face turned red all the way down to her neck.
She silently grumbled to herself, 'Better not be interested! Better it was just because of the shower gel yesterday!'
Following Michael upstairs to the bedroom, Emily obediently sat by the bed.
Michael started rummaging through the drawers.
Emily was puzzled. "What are you looking for?"
Michael replied, "The first aid kit, Emily. Your face is all swollen. You need some medicine. Are you dumb?"
Michael's words were always harsh, and Emily immediately rolled her eyes at him. "You could've just asked me where it is..."
First aid kit? No way! She couldn't let Michael replace it first! The prenatal vitamins from her last hospital visit were still in there, and she hadn't had a chance to hide them yet!
If Michael found them, her pregnancy would be exposed. Never mind whether Michael would flay her alive, the child would likely be in danger.
Thinking fast, Emily jumped up and pushed Michael away from the cabinet with all her strength.
"Emily, what the hell!" Michael stumbled and fell to the ground. "Are you trying to kill me? I'm just trying to help you replace some medicine, and this is how you repay me? Do you have any conscience?" While Michael was complaining, Emily quickly hid the prenatal vitamins in her sleeve.
Luckily, the bottle was small and easy to hide.
But the sudden movement almost strained her back, making her stomach feel uncomfortable.
Finally, Emily experienced morning sickness right in front of Michael. She rushed to the bathroom and threw up into the toilet.
The intense reaction quickly got to Michael, and before he knew it, he started dry heaving too.
Luckily, Lexine passed by and brought two cups of lemon water, helping them both calm down. "Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith, what's going on..."
Lexine thought they had eaten something bad and was about to give them a lecture.
Michael couldn't be bothered to listen. He'd had enough of the shareholders' endless chatter at the company and didn't want more at home. "Lexine, if you're so bored, replace something to do." Emily felt Michael's words were too harsh and quickly added, "We're fine, you don't need to worry."
Lexine sighed and said, "What is there to do lately? Mr. Mason Smith's needs are taken care of by Benjamin and Anson. Other than that, it's just some cleaning around the house, which others are handling."
"Mr. Michael Smith, Mrs. Smith, if I may, I used to serve Ms. Smith, but now that she's not home, who should I serve? I feel guilty taking this salary every day. Mr. Michael Smith, where has Ms. Smith gone? It's been so many days without a word. Aren't you worried?"
Lexine's reminder made Michael think of Veda, the most troublesome person.
Recently, he had been busy dealing with the cheating scandal, and Andrew was investigating the mastermind. Emily was helping manage the Smith Mansion and Emerald Lake Manor. As for Veda, they hadn't paid much attention. "Lexine, don't worry, we're looking for her. She's Michael's sister, of course, we're worried. Just wait a few more days. Veda is just having too much fun. When she comes back, you'll have plenty to do again," Emily said.
Emily was good at comforting people. Her words comforted Lexine a lot. Except when it came to Michael, she never said anything nice. Sometimes Michael really wondered if he owed Emily in the past.
"Mrs. Smith, you are right." Lexine took Emily's words to heart. Veda was always domineering. Even if she was out, she wouldn't suffer.
After Lexine left the bedroom, Emily looked at her back, genuinely worried about Veda. Although Veda wasn't particularly polite to her, Veda was Michael's sister, a member of the Smith family, and Mason's granddaughter. So she was worried. "Where do you think Veda could be? Didn't you have Andrew look for her? Oh, right, you said Andrew went to get married, didn't you?" Emily asked.
Michael was holding the first aid kit and didn't react to the word "married" at first. "Get married?"
Emily frowned. "Didn't you say Andrew took a leave to get married?"
Michael placed the first aid kit aside and pulled a chair to sit in front of Emily. Thinking back, the scene was chaotic today, and Andrew and Emily hadn't met. So no wonder Emily believed his random lie. Michael replied, "Yes, he went to get married. Why?"
Seeing Michael's casual response, Emily pouted, not wanting to argue with him. "Then no one is looking for Veda. I'll go check on her. After all, she's a girl, and Emerald City is so big. I'm really worried about her."
Emily was definitely an ideal wife. This was Michael's recent conclusion. He suddenly started to see the good in Emily, except for her sharp tongue.
Emily asked, "Michael, what are you doing?"
Seeing Michael holding a cotton swab and dipping it in the medicine bottle, then approaching her face, Emily instinctively tried to escape, feeling puzzled.
"Applying medicine for you. Emily, can you stop acting like I'm persecuting you?" Michael replied.
Saying this, Michael pulled Emily closer. They were suddenly very close, and their hearts started racing.
At that moment, Emily felt warmth from Michael. Especially when his gaze fell on her, it was like an electric current running through her body. This feeling was both exciting and unsettling, as if it could disappear at any moment.
