The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 144 The Watson Family Jewelry
Despite the awkward misunderstanding, Sophia shamelessly went along with it, "Hey, Mrs. Watson, I'm Sophia, Michael's..."
Michael whipped his head around at the sound of her voice. Sophia was trailing behind him, looking all shy and nodding eagerly at Mabel.
What the hell? How did he end up pulling the wrong person?
Sure enough, Michael glanced over at Emily. She was standing there, looking all distressed, her eyes getting redder the longer they locked eyes. She quickly turned her head away. "Michael, don't you think you're being a bit much?" Bryan spoke up for the first time, breaking the silence between them.
This was the first thing they'd said to each other since they met again after three long years.
Earlier that morning at the Watson Mansion, Mabel had given Bryan a pep talk. She told him that when Michael showed up, they needed to get along and let go of past grudges. Holding onto them wouldn't do anyone any good. Bryan had taken her words to heart. But seeing Michael now, both of them were still too young and proud to be the first to break the ice.
And now, Bryan was standing up for Emily. Michael felt a pang of jealousy hearing this.
If anyone else had said it, Michael might've reacted differently. But it was Bryan, his best friend, sticking up for Emily.
Meanwhile, Jessica noticed the whole scene. Girls always had each other's backs. Before Michael could even react, she walked over to Emily, said a few comforting words, and led her to Mabel.
In front of everyone, Jessica smoothed things over for Emily. "Michael, seriously? I only made you drink three glasses of wine, and you're already drunk? You can't even recognize your own wife?"
"I get it, the Brown sisters look alike! But Emily's taller than Sophia, and her fingers are more slender. Pay attention next time. Mess up again, and I won't let you off easy!"
With that, Jessica pulled Sophia aside, placed Emily's hand in Michael's, and smiled at everyone. "Alright, let's do this introduction again!"
Mabel chimed in, "No need for introductions, I already know."
Life experience really mattered. Mabel, who had been quiet, had already figured out the situation.
Unlike Jessica, Bryan, and his mom, who had always lived abroad, Mabel and Mason were well-versed in the entertainment news of Emerald City.
She stepped forward, standing among the crowd, and looked at Emily with a gentle gaze. "This is Michael's wife, Emily, right?"
Seeing Emily nod, Mabel smiled and continued to praise her. "Beautiful and graceful, no wonder Mason always speaks so highly of you. Michael has good taste! Bryan should replace a wife like this in the future! And this one..."
Her face showed appreciation, but when she turned to Sophia, Mabel's expression changed, becoming more serious with a hint of disdain. "She's from the Brown family, right? So Emily brought her? Well, it's my birthday, the more the merrier. Emily, make sure you take good care of your sister. Since she's here to eat, make sure she eats well and doesn't leave hungry, or people will laugh at our Watson family!"
As soon as Mabel finished speaking, Sophia's face turned sour.
Out of respect for Mabel, Emily decided not to argue with Michael and stood quietly to the side.
Soon enough, the banquet officially kicked off.
Mabel, the host of the day, took the stage to give a speech, marking the start of the festivities. Then came some traditional activities.
Emily quickly realized that Mabel had organized this grand event not just for her birthday. Business people were always looking for ways to make a buck.
Just like now, Bryan's mom had set up several mannequins on the stage, decked out in all kinds of dazzling jewelry.
Emily was instantly captivated by the display, but Sophia wasn't about to be outshined. She'd been dragged to Mabel's birthday bash by Hayden. It was bad enough that she couldn't win over Michael, but now everyone around him was helping Emily mock her.
Sophia couldn't stand it. She kept her eyes glued to Emily, ready to follow her every move. If she couldn't outdo Emily, she'd at least try to mess things up for her. If Sophia wasn't happy, no one else should be either!
After a few rounds of drinks, Jessica was completely hammered and insisted on having three more glasses with Bryan.
Mabel was holding Michael's hand, whispering something to him.
Feeling bored, Emily turned her attention to the jewelry on stage. She knew that after the banquet, these pieces would be sold or auctioned off.
With so many wealthy folks around, selling these pricey pieces would just depend on whether they liked them.
"These pieces are stunning," Emily couldn't help but say, her eyes glued to the jewelry. She loved them. From the first glance, she couldn't look away.
After all, what woman didn't love jewelry? Unless she was someone like Jessica, who had so many jewelry endorsements that she never ran out of things to wear.
As the daughter of the Brown family, Emily couldn't compare to Jessica. But she never thought of competing with anyone. She just wanted to reclaim what was hers, make a comeback, and restore the Taylor family name for her mother. "You like them?" Bryan's mom, who had been paying attention to her, asked.
Emily was a bit surprised that her words had caught Bryan's mom's attention.
Luckily, Bryan's mom was kind and didn't say anything else. She just smiled and continued, "If you like them, go take a closer look on stage. Don't worry, you don't have to buy them. I designed them myself. Since you're Michael's wife, you're like family. If you really like them, I can give them to you."
Bryan's mom was indeed graceful and kind.
Emily hadn't expected her to say that and was about to refuse.
But Bryan's mom stood up and said, "Come on, I'll take you to see them. You seem like someone who knows about jewelry."
