The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 167 Danger Approaches
"Michael, are you done yet?" Emily's voice was as cold as ice.
Michael could tell something was off, but he couldn't resist taking a jab at Emily.
He noticed that Emily, like Bryan, always wanted to do things her own way. But how many things in this world could be done exactly as one wished? One small mistake could lead to irreversible consequences.
Yet, Emily was different from Bryan, who grew up in a loving family.
At least the Watson family, Mabel, and Penelope would do anything to protect him.
But Emily, she only had herself. Why was she now trying to push away her closest father too?
Some people wished they had a father but never got the chance.
Because of this, Michael couldn't understand no matter how hard he tried. So he kept speaking bluntly. "Emily, I'm doing this for your own good, and so is your father. No one is trying to harm you. You're just overthinking everything. You're not a kid anymore. Stop acting on your impulses. If you keep this up, it'll only hurt you in the end..."
"Enough!" Emily finally couldn't take it anymore.
She never expected Michael to criticize her like this for the sake of the Brown family.
All these lectures seemed to say that she wasn't mature enough, that she didn't treat her parents well enough, and that The Brown family wasn't wrong!
However, they were the couple, they were the ones with shared interests!
Emily, with tears in her eyes, looked at Michael and thought to herself, 'Well, Michael loves Sophia; in his heart and mind, there is only Sophia.'
Even now, with the Smith Corporation in turmoil and rumors flying everywhere, Michael's first thought was to protect Sophia. As for herself, she was just a shield, a pawn in his play. Her feelings didn't matter to Michael at all. And this marriage was just a farce.
Thinking of this, Emily's tears flowed out, one after another, coldly rolling into her arms and then slipping through her fingers.
Seeing Emily cry so hard, Michael was genuinely surprised. He was stunned for a moment.
After thinking carefully, he still didn't know what he had said wrong.
Caring for her father was wrong? Giving her father money was wrong? At the very least, Hayden raised her!
So the atmosphere remained tense until Emily unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
Seeing this, Michael quickly followed her out of the car. "Emily, where are you going! We're supposed to go back to the Smith Mansion tonight. Grandpa is waiting for you!"
The Smith Mansion? Whether it was the Smith Mansion or Emerald Lake Manor, was any place really her home?
Yes, only Mason was waiting for her at home. But that home was as cold as an ice cellar.
Emily let out a cold laugh, and her tears flowed from her eyes once again. "You go back by yourself."
With that, Emily walked away without looking back.
But Michael, in his pride, couldn't understand why Emily was making such a big deal out of this. He had already made enough concessions, and there was still room for reconciliation.
If there was a chance to make peace with the family, why hold onto this grudge?
Michael couldn't wrap his head around it, so he just started the car and sped off, disappearing into the night.
When Emily got out of the car, she didn't realize she was stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Penelope had held the exhibition in the suburbs of Emerald City, so it was pretty isolated.
Luckily, most of the guests had driven there, so no one really complained.
Emily had come with Michael. The sports car had zoomed all the way, so she hadn't paid attention to the surroundings.
It wasn't until she had walked several miles that Emily realized the area was pitch black. The trees by the roadside were just dark shadows swaying in the night wind, making rustling sounds as if something was sneaking up on her.
The more it was like this, the more Emily felt terrified. When the sounds got closer, making it hard to distinguish, she panicked and quickly took out her phone to call Abigail.
But there was only one bar of signal in this place. Even when she managed to connect, Abigail's line was busy, and no one answered.
Terrified, Emily walked faster, even breaking into a run. She ran for a long time until she felt the footsteps getting farther away, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
Turning around suddenly, she saw a figure not far away, swaying as it walked, holding a bottle of alcohol. It looked like a drunk.
Emily's heart finally settled, but she didn't dare to relax. She continued to run far ahead, shivering, and then squatted down, hugging herself.
Already feeling down, Emily felt even worse. She never expected Michael to really leave her in the middle of nowhere.
It seemed Michael never loved her, not even having a bit of compassion.
The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt.
Then Emily looked up. In the deep night of the wilderness, a crescent moon hung alone in the dark sky. Just a moment ago, the stars were shining brightly, but now there were only a few distant stars, occasionally emitting a cold light, flickering, dim and uncertain.
Emily couldn't help but feel that it was like herself, completely unimportant. Suddenly, she hugged herself tightly and started crying.
Emily didn't know how long she cried, but she felt exhausted. Just as she was about to stand up, she suddenly felt dizzy and almost fainted.
Fortunately, a force supported her, and Emily suddenly woke up to see Bryan in front of her.
Bryan didn't expect to replace the emotionally broken Emily on his way home.
He was stunned for a moment and frowned. "You? What are you doing here?"
When encountering someone he wasn't familiar with, Bryan's words became fewer.
He helped Emily up and then immediately let go, keeping his distance.
Seeing Emily not speaking, Bryan couldn't help but ask again. "Where's Michael? Why did he leave you here alone?"
Emily just silently cried, not saying a word. Her eyes were red, looking at Bryan with a sorrowful gaze, tears continuously streaming down her cheeks.
Bryan, feeling helpless and frowned. "I don't think I did anything to you. Why are you looking at me like that? Where's Michael? Did you two have a fight?"
