The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 179 Comforting Penelope

The Watson Mansion, out on the balcony.

Penelope stared at the gloomy sky, trying to ignore the man behind her who kept begging. "Let's get a divorce."

"Enough! Haven't you upset Mom enough already? Richard, why is it that every time you come back, the whole Watson family goes into chaos? Why do you have to bring this up when Bryan is home? Why do you have to humiliate me in front of everyone?" Penelope couldn't hold it in any longer and snapped at him.

The man, Richard, was Bryan's father and also a friend of Michael's dad.

Richard was hardly ever in Emerald City because most of the Watson family's businesses were overseas. The small part that was local was managed by Mabel. Plus, the Smith family ruled the market, so the Watson family's business had been stuck in a rut for years.

Their business wasn't as successful as the Smith family's, and neither was their son.

Richard was super jealous because of this.

Now, the only thing he could compare with the Smith family was his complete family of three.

But why did he suddenly want to divorce Penelope?

It was because Richard's mistress abroad had a kid.

Richard had checked the kid's gender; it was a boy. Otherwise, he wouldn't have bothered to come back.

He came back just to register his illegitimate son's identity, so he could claim to have an heir in the future.

Richard shot back, "Humiliate you? Penelope, all these years, who has been humiliated?"

Feeling justified, Richard yelled at Penelope. "I told you ages ago to give up the business in Marigoldia and come with me to Phoenixia. How can I manage the Watson family's huge business alone? But you! You refused to go! You went to Marigoldia!"

Listening to this, Penelope couldn't help but replace Richard ridiculous.

Penelope said, "Do you think I went to Marigoldia just for myself? Bryan is in Marigoldia, and so is my mom. Business is important, but I'm also taking care of my family!"

Richard added, "But I need you too! I'm handling the entire Watson family's international business outside of Marigoldia all by myself. Isn't that hard for me too? Penelope, this is pure nonsense. We need to divorce immediately, as soon as possible!"

With that, Richard turned to leave.

Suddenly, he saw Bryan standing quietly at the staircase, watching them.

Richard didn't bother to hide anything and continued to scold Bryan. "I'm warning you too! Don't look at me like that. No matter what, I'm still your father. Take good care of your grandmother. Also, since you're back, you should learn how to manage the company properly!"

"In this situation, do you still want your grandmother to worry and handle domestic affairs? I'll be staying at a hotel for the next few days. No need to clean my room. Also, there's a business banquet in a few days. If you don't show up, you can get out of the country immediately!"

This time, Richard left the Watson Mansion without looking back.

Seeing this, Penelope couldn't hold back and cried even harder.

At this moment, Bryan realized how useless he was.

He could neither support the family, nor protect his mother, and even had no right to speak against his father.

Michael and Emily arrived at the Watson Mansion and immediately went to see Mabel.

Fortunately, Mabel was not seriously ill, just hadn't woken up, probably because Richard had upset her greatly.

Seeing this, Michael suggested talking to Bryan.

Emily shook her head, "Talk to him? With everything his parents have put him through, he's probably really upset right now. If you talk to him, given your relationship, won't it just make things worse?" That was Emily's main concern.

Michael didn't seem too worried.

At first, he thought the same and felt that if he saw Bryan, he should keep it brief.

Otherwise, given Bryan's mindset, he might think they were just there to watch the drama unfold.

But seeing Mabel bedridden, Michael's thoughts changed.

Now it was the Watson family's toughest time.

With Mabel ill, someone had to support the Watson family's business in Emerald City. Richard was extremely busy and wanted to divorce Penelope.

So, Bryan had to step up now. Michael wanted to talk to Bryan to share some experience.

After all, the two families were friends before. They couldn't let past misunderstandings hinder the Watson family's business development.

Otherwise, it would make them seem petty.

Michael explained his thoughts to Emily.

Hearing this, Emily felt it made sense. She nodded and, after Michael went upstairs, went to the yard alone.

This was Emily's first time walking alone in the Watson Mansion's yard.

The last time she came with Michael was for Mabel's birthday party.

Back then, the Watson Mansion was bustling and lively.

Unlike now, it was cold and quiet, seemingly shrouded in overcast clouds.

There were hardly any servants, and it looked lifeless.

Suddenly, Emily's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of crying. She quickly walked over and found it was Penelope.

In Emily's eyes, Penelope had always been a very strong and independent woman.

But no matter how independent a woman was, marriage could still leave her scarred.

Just like her, married to a man who didn't love her, suffering for three years.

In the end, she got nothing and had to act along with him, swallowing all her grievances.

"Emily?"

Emily was silently sympathizing with Penelope. Suddenly hearing her name, she snapped out of it and looked over. She saw Penelope turning around, tearfully waving at her.

In her current vulnerable state, she looked like she needed protection.

Emily replied, "Penelope."

"You're here." Penelope wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and gestured for Emily to sit beside her.

She didn't seem to want to hide anything, openly asking, "Did Mason ask you to come? He always thinks of the Watson family. When you go back, you must thank him for me. When I have time, I'll definitely visit the Smith Mansion to see him." Seeing Emily's confused expression, Penelope understood her confusion and smiled, explaining, "I'm planning to divorce Richard, but I'm still Bryan's mother. I've always considered Mabel as my own mother. Of course, I still see myself as part of the Watson family."

Emily couldn't help but admire Penelope even more.

Emily asked, "Penelope, does it hurt a lot inside?"

Emily asked this question, also wanting to ask herself.

When she wanted to divorce Michael back then, didn't she also feel heartbroken?

Even though they were now forced to pretend to be together due to public pressure, there would eventually come a day when they parted ways.

When that day came, it would probably hurt even more.
