The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 186 Taking Over the Jewelry Industry
So, Emily and Bryan decided to meet up at this café, and it felt super formal. Emily was pretty shocked because Bryan never really reached out to her. Even when they had to meet for something, Bryan barely said a word to her. The most he ever talked to her was the day he gave her a ride home.
This whole setup made Emily think something big was going down. So, she got to the café early.
But, surprise! Bryan was already there before her. As soon as he spotted Emily, he got up to say hi. This just made Emily more sure that something important was up.
"Was there traffic on the way?" Bryan asked as soon as they sat down.
Clearly, small talk wasn't his thing. If there was traffic, would she have gotten there early?
Bryan looked a bit nervous and unsure, not like someone who could run a company. Compared to Michael, they were worlds apart.
Emily couldn't help but wonder how someone as lively and energetic as Alice ended up with Bryan. But hey, people acted differently around different folks. Maybe Bryan was just like this with her and totally different when he was with Alice? Thinking about this, Emily smiled. Bryan looked a bit confused, and then Emily cut to the chase. "Traffic was fine. You didn't call me here just to ask that, right? Just spill it. I know you're busy, and I made time to come here. Smith Corporation's got some new projects I'm on, so let's keep it quick."
Bryan nodded, appreciating her directness. He got straight to the point. "Jessica told me you've always freelanced, even after marrying Michael. Now you're handling Smith Corporation's work, so you must have a ton of experience." Bryan rarely talked this much, especially to her. This made Emily even more sure that Bryan had something important to discuss. Since it was about work, it had to be a business thing.
Emily replied, "Experienced is a bit much. I can help with design stuff. What do you need?"
Before she could finish, Bryan nodded. "Yeah, I need your help. Emily, putting aside my past with Michael, I'm asking as a friend. Are you interested in my mom's jewelry business? I'd like to hire you to manage her jewelry operations in Emerald City."
"My mom's super busy. She's got her own stuff, but this is temporary. If you do well, you could stay on and keep helping her."
"Manage?" Emily was stunned. She didn't hear anything Bryan said after that.
Bryan replied, "Yeah, manage. It's mainly my mom's idea. She's planning to go abroad again."
It seemed like Richard and Penelope's divorce was a done deal. Penelope wanted to go abroad, maybe to start something new or just to chill.
Thinking about it, Emily, who could totally relate, let out a sigh. 'Divorce is never easy, right?'
She suddenly remembered what Penelope had told her on the balcony of the Watson Mansion that day. "Once the pain is over, it's fine. You fall, you get back up, life goes on."
Seeing Emily still on the fence, Bryan pressed on. "Actually, this is my mom's idea too. She thinks you're really talented in this area and could use your help. She's just too drained to handle it all. Everything in Emerald City has her spinning." "If someone could step in to manage things, that'd be perfect. But hey, no pressure. It's totally up to you. Take your time to think it over and just let me know when you've decided."
With that, Bryan was ready to leave.
But Emily surprised him by answering right away. "Okay. I can help. I just need to work directly with you, right?"
Bryan was taken aback. He always knew Emily was a girl with her own mind, but he didn't expect her to make such a big decision without even consulting Michael.
It was clear she wasn't just the housewife people thought she was. Taking on this job so confidently showed she was much more than just a pretty face; she was truly capable.
Seeing Bryan's expression, Emily knew what he was thinking.
She smiled and said, "I know what you're worried about. I'll talk to Michael about my work at Smith Corporation. Once I wrap up the current project, I think I can step down. My passion is design, not being a secretary. Michael might be my husband and my boss, but he's not me. Only I can decide my career and my life."
Bryan couldn't help but smile at her confidence. He didn't expect this side of her. "You really have your own ideas, no wonder..."
He trailed off.
Emily raised an eyebrow. "What?"
Bryan replied, "Nothing, I just admire you. So it's settled, I'll contact you later."
After nodding to Emily, Bryan prepared to leave.
Actually, he was going to say no wonder Michael liked her so much. A girl like her was rare, no wonder Michael was smitten.
Michael had managed to fool everyone-Mason, Scarlett, Veda, Sophia, Jessica, and even Emily. But Bryan always believed Michael couldn't fool him. Michael genuinely liked Emily. His eyes, his every move, couldn't lie. After saying goodbye to Bryan, Emily headed back to Smith Corporation to finish her work.
After work, she went to the hospital. Work had been crazy, and Smith Corporation had been having issues, so Emily hadn't visited the hospital in days. She wanted to tell her mom everything that had happened lately.
As soon as she opened the door to the hospital room, she saw Daniel. She found out that in the days she hadn't been there, Daniel had been coming to take care of Isabella every day, without fail.
