The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 187 Hospital Examination
Emily said, "Daniel, thanks a ton. I really don't know how to show my gratitude."
Emily hadn't seen Daniel for the past few days, thinking perhaps it was because he was busy with work or maybe because he saw her move back to Emerald Lake Manor and decided to step back, no longer pursuing her.
But it turned out that every move Daniel made was done quietly and without expecting anything in return, which made Emily feel pretty guilty.
Daniel replied, "It's no big deal. I work at the hospital, so checking on your mom is just part of the job. Besides, I know you've been... super busy lately."
As he finished speaking, the disappointment on Daniel's face was clear.
He knew Emily was helping the Smith family through tough times, but he also knew that Emily wasn't doing it out of goodwill; she truly loved Michael, which was why she was willing to endure so much.
Even with all the rumors spreading online, she was willing to swallow all the grievances. Such a good woman, yet Michael just didn't appreciate her.
Thinking of this, Daniel couldn't help but sigh for Emily.
The atmosphere between the two gradually became awkward. Emily took the opportunity to change the subject. "Daniel, I want to move my mom to a better room, the best VIP room in the hospital. Can you help me arrange that?" Nowadays, Emily was not only the famous "Mrs. Smith", the president's wife of Smith Corporation, but also the chief direct officer of JM Jewelry, appointed by the Watson family, indirectly taking over Penelope's position.
Plus, with the private work she had taken from Abigail before, things were different now. Moving Isabella to a better room wasn't a problem for Emily.
Daniel replied, "Sure, of course. Emily, seeing you doing better makes me really happy. But... while it's important to create a good medical environment for your mother, you also need to think more about yourself." Think more about herself? That was a suggestion Emily rarely heard.
For so many years, everyone expected her to be a good granddaughter-in-law, a good sister-in-law, a good wife... but no one ever told her to think more about herself.
To be honest, looking at the equally handsome and wealthy Daniel in front of her, it was impossible for Emily not to feel a moment of heartache.
But that heartache was fleeting, like fireworks, and couldn't compare to her deep, unforgettable love for Michael.
It was strange that Emily found that whenever she thought of Michael, she couldn't help but feel nauseous and want to vomit. Could it be that the baby in her belly missed their dad too? What a hassle! Seeing Emily's face suddenly turn pale and her rushing to the bathroom to vomit uncontrollably, Daniel swallowed the words he was about to say.
Sometimes, looking at the youthful Emily, Daniel would forget that she was already pregnant. After all, her relationship with Michael wasn't over yet, so how could she easily agree to be with him?
Daniel comforted himself silently and quickly walked to the bathroom to check on Emily, who was washing her hands.
Daniel asked, "Emily, are you okay?"
Emily replied, "I'm fine. The morning sickness is getting worse lately. But I haven't been eating much. Maybe I'm just tired recently, and my baby is protesting!" Saying this, Emily dried her hands and happily touched her belly, her smile growing wider, making her look even more charming and hard to look away from.
At the same time, Daniel could see that Emily really liked this baby. But...
Daniel asked, "Emily, have you thought about how to tell Michael about the baby?"
Emily's smile froze for a moment. Daniel knew he had overstepped and was about to apologize when Emily looked up. They locked eyes, and Daniel smiled awkwardly.
"To be honest, I haven't thought about it, but I'll figure it out when the time comes. Fortunately, my frail body has hidden the pregnancy well. When I can't hide it anymore..." Emily's voice trailed off because she knew that when she couldn't hide it anymore, it would be the time for her and Michael to part ways. She didn't want that, but it was inevitable.
Michael wouldn't want her, let alone the baby. This baby was her treasure, but definitely a burden in Michael's eyes.
Despite this, Emily still wanted to cherish the present and spend as much time with Michael as possible. That way, she wouldn't regret it in the future.
Emily added, "Daniel, I want to go to the obstetrics and gynecology department for a check-up, so I'll be leaving now."
Daniel replied, "Actually, I have something to do at the obstetrics and gynecology department too. I'll go with you."
Originally, she wanted to use the check-up as an excuse to part ways with Daniel. But in her panic, Emily forgot that Daniel was also an obstetrician and gynecologist.
It seemed being too capable wasn't always a good thing. Helpless, Emily could only settle Isabella and then head to the obstetrics and gynecology department with Daniel.
Meanwhile, at the hospital's emergency room.
Andrew said, "Mr. Smith, should I call Mrs. Smith? Mr. Smith, where do you feel uncomfortable? Mr. Smith, do you want something to eat? I can call Emerald Lake Manor and have Ava start cooking. Mr. Smith, you..." Hearing Andrew's constant nagging, Michael wished he could fire him the next second.
Michael replied impatiently, "Can you let me rest?"
Michael just had a mild case of low blood sugar. While working in the office, he got dizzy and almost fell. So Andrew hurriedly brought him to the hospital, and the doctor suggested two bottles of glucose.
But Michael never expected that it would take over two hours, which was a complete waste of time and life!
However, there was no way out; the needle was already in his vein, and he couldn't run away now. He just wanted to lie down quietly.
Andrew said, "Sorry, Mr. Smith, I'll be more careful next time."
Michael asked, "Next time?"
Andrew replied, "Sorry, Mr. Smith, there won't be a next time."
Michael said, "You...Go get me something to eat, and remember, it has to be sour, the sourer, the better."
To be honest, Michael wasn't just feeling weak and dizzy now. Even his appetite was unusually poor, and he couldn't stop feeling nauseous. On the way to the hospital earlier, he almost ruined the decorations in his new luxury car. Sour? The sourer, the better?
Hearing this, Andrew nodded repeatedly but was also very skeptical.
Michael used to eat very bland food, the plainer, the better. But recently, he had been eating spicy and sour food, and the more he ate, the more he wanted, feeling nauseous after long car rides or long hours of work... Wasn't this a clear sign of pregnancy?
Thinking of this, Andrew slapped his forehead. He thought he might have low blood sugar too, starting to imagine things out of nowhere, which was really hard to believe!
Two hours flew by, and on the other side of town, Emily had finally wrapped up her check-up.
She could've left the hospital ages ago, but the line for blood tests was insane. Daniel had offered to help, but Emily figured she had nothing else going on, so waiting a bit longer wasn't a big deal. Plus, she didn't want to make a scene since she wasn't the only pregnant woman there.
