The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 216 Visiting the Hospital

Sure enough, Scarlett picked up the phone and put it to her ear, her voice icy cold. "Guess what? This is your wife, the one you've always protected. Oh, and just so you know, we're having this chat right outside the Smith Mansion. Why? Because your dear wife was brought back here by your old buddy, Bryan."

Without waiting for a reply, Scarlett hung up and shot Emily a triumphant grin. "Bet you're wondering how I timed that so perfectly, huh? Honestly, I'm surprised too. Maybe the universe just wants you out of the Smith family. Like I said, family ties are the hardest to sever. They're my blood, and you're just something he picks up when he remembers..."

Scarlett sneered, "And when he doesn't, I'll toss it out for him!"

Emily was stunned at first, then she couldn't hold back her anger. "How can you do this? He's your son, and he's still in the hospital! You don't visit him, and now you want to upset him like this? Don't you know how strained his relationship with Bryan is?"

Emily couldn't take Scarlett's sarcasm anymore, nor her arrogance. Her face twisted with madness and despair, on the verge of breaking down.

But Scarlett didn't care. Her expression was cold, like none of this mattered to her. "So what? Emily, just wait and see. I'll make you understand that Emerald City's success isn't solely dependent on Michael, and it definitely has nothing to do with someone as useless as you."

With that, Scarlett strutted into the Smith Mansion.

As she walked in, the passing servants all greeted her with respect.

Emily didn't say anything more, but tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

She finally got what Scarlett meant by "Family ties are the hardest to sever."

Mason cared most about the Smith family's reputation, and the Smith Corporation would inevitably be passed on to Michael. Veda wasn't married yet, so Mason would never kick Scarlett out of the family.

No matter how outrageous her actions were, Mason would still be lenient.

So, the only thing Emily could do now was to leave the Smith family as soon as possible.

As for what Michael would think when he heard the phone call, Emily didn't care anymore.

Would he be sad?

When he held Sophia's hand and promised to reconcile, did he ever think about whether she would be sad?

Meanwhile, the hospital room was dimly lit.

The faint light from the phone screen glowed after the call ended.

He knew Emily had every right to say those things, but hearing them still hurt deeply.

Suddenly, a message came in, breaking the silence.

Michael glanced at his phone and saw a message from Bryan. It was short and to the point: [Alice has a curfew, so I sent Emily home, but ran into your mom.]

The next morning, Emily woke up with the warm sunlight on her face, feeling a rare moment of happiness. But something felt off-Abigail hadn't returned yet. She picked up her phone and saw several messages from Abigail, all complaints. [Emily! This kind of life is too hard, I want to quit!]

[My goodness! Can you believe I'm the one working on Saturdays? Please come save me!]

[Let anyone who enjoys this job take it. But I, for one, refuse to submit to the capitalist oppressors!]

Emily couldn't help but laugh at the messages. She replied to each one and then got up to wash up. Suddenly, she realized it was Saturday. Her smile froze. She and Michael had agreed to meet at the hospital today to hand over work since he was being discharged on Sunday. After last night's drama, they were going to meet today.

"Remember, when you get home, you need to rest and not overuse your brain. Although this won't leave any lasting effects, it's still an injury, so be careful. And don't forget to change the dressing on time..." The nurse was mid-explanation when Emily walked in, holding a bouquet of flowers and some homemade light dishes.

Seeing her, Michael felt a wave of happiness. The nurse couldn't help but tease, "Mrs. Smith, you're finally here. With Mr. Smith sick these days, has the Smith Corporation been relying on you? You're a role model for women, managing the company and cooking!"

Emily smiled and placed the items on the bedside table. The nurse admired the flowers. "These flowers smell so good and look beautiful. Where did you buy them, Mrs. Smith?"

The awkward scenes Emily had imagined didn't happen. She breathed a sigh of relief and started chatting with the nurse. Michael watched, a smile playing on his lips.

The nurse said, "Mrs. Smith, you're too kind. But I cant't accept this. These flowers are for Mr. Smith."

Emily responded gently, "What do you mean? I just bought them casually from a flower shop. If your child needs them for a craft project, then the project is more important. You can take as many flowers as you need, we don't mind." Michael's face changed. "Emily, aren't these flowers for me?"

Emily retorted, "But the nurse's child needs them for a craft project, it's just a small favor, right?"

To her, it seemed like a simple favor. After all, he was a man and probably didn't care much for flowers. But Michael firmly refused, saying, "No, these flowers are for the patient. Her child can't use them. It's bad luck for them!"
