The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 34 Sarcasm
Michael took a moment to think, then stepped back a bit. He grabbed a tissue from the table and handed it to her. "You don't need to quit; I'll handle this." "Michael, no, the headquarters of Moonlit Treasures will be unhappy with you." Sophia kept crying, and Michael just pulled her into his arms.
"Hey, don't worry about it. I'll take care of everything. Just take some time off, rest up, and come back when you're ready," Michael said, trying to comfort her.
With red eyes, Sophia sobbed, "Michael, I don't want to go home. My parents are fighting, and they take it out on me. I can't stand it. My dad says Emily wants the whole Brown Corporation, and my mom cries every day. I feel like I can't breathe at home. I'm so tired."
Michael frowned. "Why does Emily want the Brown Corporation? What's it got to do with her?"
Sophia looked at him, feeling both upset and helpless. "She wants to use the condition of divorcing you to get the Brown Corporation from my dad. My dad had to agree for my sake; they just need to sign the papers."
Michael laughed coldly, his tone icy. "She thinks she can use me and your dad as bargaining chips? She's delusional." He'd see about that.
Sophia was stunned. 'Does Michael not want a divorce?' She couldn't help but ask, "Michael, will you agree to divorce her?" Michael didn't answer, just comforted her a bit more. "Rest up at home for the next few days. If you need anything, just use my card."
Sophia wanted to say this was all a setup by Emily to frame her, but she was scared Michael would ask questions and even more scared he'd dig into the past, so she kept quiet.
Meanwhile, Emily heard from Abigail that Michael had covered up Sophia's disruption at the press conference, and she was so mad she skipped dinner.
She knew Michael would protect Sophia. All her worries and guilt were pointless. Looking back, Emily felt she should have completely ruined Sophia.
She was mad at Sophia and herself, but Michael's attitude made her even angrier. She thought she had to settle this with Michael.
Lately, Michael had been coming home really late. By the time he got back, she was already asleep, and when she woke up, he was already gone. They rarely saw each other.
She wanted to ask Michael why he let Sophia off so easily but was afraid of embarrassing herself, so she held back.
She arranged to meet Abigail at Epicurean Delight to pick out a gift for Nicholas, but she didn't expect to see Michael and Sophia there.
What a small world! What a coincidence!
Emily now hated them. Sophia saw Emily and said to Michael, "Emily's here for dinner too. Let's go say hi." With that, she pulled Michael over to Emily.
Already in a bad mood, Emily immediately put up her guard when she saw them coming.
Sophia said, "What a coincidence, Emily! You're here for dinner too?"
Emily shot back coldly, "Yeah, but I didn't expect you to have the appetite to eat. Even after being disgraced, you can still eat. You really are broad-minded." She mimicked Sophia's tone, dripping with sarcasm, making Sophia's face go pale. Sophia turned to Michael, pretending to be hurt. "Michael, look at Emily. I just wanted to say hi, and she said that to me."
"Oh, some people are shameless enough to plagiarize others' work and still have the nerve to come out on a date. Really, the world is in a downward spiral, and there are all kinds of people," Abigail chimed in, her sarcasm making Sophia's face even paler. Sophia hid in Michael's arms, crying.
Out of their sight, Sophia smirked triumphantly. She had done it on purpose.
It wasn't in vain that she had pestered Michael to come here. She had already seen Emily and Abigail and knew Emily would definitely mock her. So she deliberately brought Michael over.
She wanted Michael to dislike Emily. A little sarcasm was nothing as long as Michael would dislike Emily. She could endure it.
Michael's face darkened as he looked at Emily. "I thought you are still sick at home. How do you have time to come out for dinner? You don't eat the meals prepared by the nutritionist at home and just come out to eat junk. Are you trying to..." Michael paused, then continued, "Sophia's matter is already settled. You don't need to mock her. She just returned to the country and wants to establish herself here but used the wrong method. You don't need to hold onto it."
Emily and Abigail were furious upon hearing this. Emily wanted to throw Abigail's coffee in Michael's face. She held back, not wanting to make a scene in public, and just said, "Mr. Smith, what I eat and want to eat is none of your business. If you don't like it, you can leave. And don't act like we're close."
Emily almost told him to leave.
"Exactly, Mr. Smith. You're on a date with your lover, and we're having a gathering. It's none of your business, right?" Abigail muttered softly, but Michael heard it. He shot her a look, and Abigail immediately fell silent. Although Abigail spoke harshly, she was afraid of Michael because he had an aura of authority and an intimidating presence. So while she dared to confront Sophia, she didn't dare to confront Michael. Michael didn't want to say more and just coldly said, "I will leave." Then he left, ignoring Sophia who was aggrieved.
Emily and Abigail felt much better seeing Michael leave Sophia behind. Sophia glared at Emily hatefully. "I'll get you for that!"
Emily found it amusing. "Sophia, it's me who won't let this go. This incident is just a lesson. I'll make sure you remember. Everything you did to me, I'll return it all. You better be prepared. The game has just begun." Sophia's face turned ugly, and her eyes flashed with hatred. She wanted to tear Emily apart. Then she angrily turned and chased after Michael.
