Chapter 42 Trending Entertainment Topics
Emily said, "Do you think I would agree to something like this? I used the plagiarism issue against Sophia at the press conference. Now you want me to clear her name? Do you think that's possible?"
Abigail also said, "I will coordinate this matter with Moonlit Treasures. There's no way we are going to clear Sophia's name. And not only that, but Ella's first condition for joining Moonlit Treasures is to fire Sophia."
Emily continued, "Since they are making demands, why can't we? We need to make sure Sophia can't stay in this industry, to ruin her reputation. She should carry the stigma of plagiarism for the rest of her life." This was what Sophia had done to her before, and now she was just returning the favor.
After hearing her suggestion, Abigail immediately went to negotiate with Moonlit Treasures' headquarters. Emily thought that if they didn't agree, she wouldn't be afraid then. After all, they had no evidence that she had plagiarized. Only Michael could twist the truth. But this was the last thing Emily wanted. She didn't want to fight with Michael embarrassingly.
In the end, Abigail came back with the news that Moonlit Treasures refused to terminate Sophia's employment. They only said that Ella wouldn't be working in the office and wouldn't meet Sophia, so it wouldn't affect her. Emily was so angry that she felt pain in her heart and liver, and even everywhere hurt. Michael, she thought he was shameless, but she didn't expect him to be this shameless.
In the end, she had no choice but to agree. Then, she had Abigail sign the contract with Moonlit Treasures on her behalf.
Shortly after they signed the contract, Moonlit Treasures sent her a work account. They told her to use this account to design pieces in the future.
Their designs were all high-end jewelry for various elites and wealthy clients, and they were very expensive.
Emily knew this was a considerable income. And she needed this income now because she still required a large sum of money for Isabella's medical equipment. So, she had no choice but to accept the job. Besides Michael's threats, there were Isabella's medical bills. She thought about leaving Michael far behind, but for now, she had to put that idea aside. At least until Isabella woke up, she couldn't take her away.
As soon as she received the work account from Moonlit Treasures, they sent her a task. Emily opened it and found out she had to design a set of jewelry for a female celebrity to wear on the red carpet.
This order was urgent, and Moonlit Treasures immediately handed it to Emily. She didn't know if they were deliberately troubling her or what.
Anyway, when Emily received the order, she felt a headache. She was already a bit weak, and now she had to stay up late to draw the design sketches.
She knew that Michael, that capitalist who only exploited ordinary people's labor, wouldn't let her sign the contract for nothing.
Then Moonlit Treasures sent Emily the assistant's phone number and a Facebook contact for the female celebrity.
They instructed Emily to contact them and help design the jewelry. When Abigail found out, she saw that it was an order for the popular actress Thalia Fairchild.
Abigail knew that Thalia wasn't very talented but had a bad temper. She was an unknown actress who had risen to fame as a top-tier star with the support of a wealthy backer.
There were always rumors that Thalia's backer was Michael, but Emily knew it wasn't Michael because Michael looked down on women in the entertainment industry. Sometimes Emily despised him for this. 'Work is work; why make distinctions?' She wondered.
But maybe it was the Smith Family's tradition. He didn't like women in the entertainment industry. Over the years, besides Sophia, no other woman had appeared by his side.
But now that Emily had taken this order, she would inevitably have to meet Thalia. However, she decided to let Abigail handle the coordination.
Emily would only do the design. She didn't want to get involved in some messy affairs. When Abigail came to Emerald Lake Manor to replace Emily, Emily was lying on the table, deep in thought, wondering what kind of jewelry she could design to match Thalia's rustic style.
Abigail laughed hysterically. "I heard Thalia's backer is Michael. Did you know that?"
Emily glanced at Abigail. "With Michael's character, do you think he would be interested in Thalia?"
Abigail thought for a moment and agreed. Thalia might appear gentle and weak in public, but Abigail knew she was just as hypocritical as Sophia.
Emily found her description amusing. Emily didn't want to take this job, but she had no choice. Now that Michael was threatening her, she had to agree.
Abigail said, "So Thalia's backer isn't Michael, huh?"
Emily thought it was impossible. The Smith Family wouldn't allow him to be interested in women from the entertainment industry as a family tradition.
But Emily's words were soon contradicted that evening when she saw a trending topic in the entertainment news.
It was about Michael spending the night with the popular actress Thalia at a hotel. Emily was shocked when she saw the news.
Emily thought that with Michael's character, he wouldn't do such a thing, but the entertainment industry was always full of rumors, and she was really worried.
Abigail also called to tease her, "If memory served me well, you said this afternoon that Michael wouldn't be interested in Thalia."
Emily felt a bit embarrassed. "Who knows if it's true or not?"
Abigail said, "Aren't you going to catch them in the act? The hotel's name is even mentioned. I'll go with you."
Emily chuckled, "Why would I catch them? Is it my right to do that? I bet someone else is more anxious than I am right now."
Abigail thought for a moment and said knowingly, "Oh, do you mean Sophia? She's probably furious right now. But if Thalia goes up against Sophia, who do you think has a better chance?" Emily chuckled. "What does it matter to me who has a better chance?"
But Abigail laughed and said, "I'm betting on Emily having the best chance."
Emily was stunned for a moment, and Abigail quickly hung up the phone. Emily didn't know her feeling. Although she told Abigail she didn't care, only she knew that she felt lost in her heart. Emily wanted to call Michael but couldn't replace any reason. Anyone could make this call, except her.
Emily irritably put away the design sketches that had been open for a long time but hadn't drawn a single line.
Emily didn't know what kind of mood she should hold to draw these sketches, but soon Thalia's assistant sent her a message on Facebook, asking if she had finished the design.
