The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 41 Distort the truth
So, the indictment didn't go straight to her but to Abigail. Abigail was her agent, but she never used her real name in public. Emily quickly met up with her.
Emily blurted out, "What the hell is going on? Why is Moonlit Treasures suing me? What did I do? How can they even sue me? On what grounds?"
Abigail tried to calm her down. "Emily, chill. Let's open it and see what's up."
Abigail was just as clueless, so she opened the indictment. It was an infringement case.
The indictment said Ella was suspected of ripping off Moonlit Treasures' jewelry designs. There was also a handwritten note from the lawyer.
It read: [Since Ella won't cooperate with Moonlit Treasures, we suspect she's involved in some shady stuff. The designs submitted to Moonlit Treasures seem to plagiarize the works of our designer, Sophia. If Ella doesn't resolve this, she'll face legal consequences.]
Emily saw the note and knew it was Michael's doing. The tone was unmistakably his.
Furious, Emily tore up the letter. "That bastard is suing me and accusing me of copying Sophia. What right does he have?"
Abigail looked serious. "Emily, if you don't show your face and let Michael know you exist, he'll really push this. The public will get more curious. This time it's just a lawyer's letter and an indictment. If Michael gets desperate, he could do anything."
Emily was so mad her chest hurt. She didn't expect things to go this way and now she was being accused of plagiarism.
She thought, 'How is this any different from what happened in college? Why am I back to square one?' She felt powerless and slumped over the table.
"Abigail, what do we do now?" She was at a loss. Michael's methods were so dirty. He'd do anything to force Ella to show up.
Abigail sighed. "We don't have the resources to deal with Michael. If only we had a strong legal team." She slumped over the table too, both of them deeply troubled.
Abigail added, "Do you really think staying hidden will work? Michael will push this. For the first time, I'm scared of him. He can do anything."
Emily knew Abigail was right. Michael could do anything. His methods, his ruthlessness, and his coldness were beyond what she imagined.
Emily thought, 'So what if he replaces out?' But she didn't want Michael to know her hidden identity. Seeing Abigail's worried face, she made up her mind. "Abigail, email Moonlit Treasures' business department. Tell them I'm willing to cooperate long-term, but I still won't show my face. Ask for a work account. I'll design offline. See if that works."
Abigail thought for a moment and suggested, "How is that different from before? As long as you don't show up, Michael won't let Ella go."
Emily pounded the table in frustration. "Just reply like that first. If they don't agree, we'll figure something else out. Tell them I'm willing to deal with them directly, without you."
Abigail nodded. "Alright, I'll give it a try."
That evening, when Michael got home, Emily still wouldn't give him the time of day. Thinking about that lawyer's letter, she wanted to rip him apart. 'Besides threatening people, what else can Michael do?'
Seeing Emily glaring at him all night, Michael finally spoke up. "What, did I piss you off again?" He'd been dealing with nausea and chest tightness for days, and the business department still hadn't sorted out the Ella issue. He was on edge. Emily gritted her teeth. "Nothing, I just replace you annoying."
Michael laughed, but it was more out of anger. It was the first time he'd heard such emotion from her. "You replace me annoying? Well, the feeling's mutual."
"When are we getting a divorce?" Emily wished she could ask this every day.
Michael replied, "I've told you, either you give up voluntarily, or I don't mind turning the Brown Corporation into mine." He walked away without looking back. Emily glared at his retreating figure. "Michael, is threatening the only trick you know? What else can you do?" She thought about the lawyer's letter and angrily threw a pillow at his back.
"Tricks don't need to be many, just effective." Michael walked away, a smirk on his face.
Not long after, Michael waddled out of the bathroom, wearing a pale face. He angrily pushed open Emily's door and saw her coming out of the bathroom, also pale.
"What do you want now?" Emily had just returned to her room and felt nauseous. After throwing up, she saw Michael and felt even worse.
Michael stepped forward and grabbed her, gritting his teeth. "Emily, when will this endless vomiting stop?" For the first time, Michael felt like he was on the verge of collapse.
The more Emily thought about it, the angrier she got. She shook off Michael's hand. "What does it have to do with you? Why do you care if I throw up? Aren't you afraid your side piece will get jealous?"
Michael felt like he was going to explode. Every word Emily said made him angrier. He tightened his grip on her wrist.
"Michael, let go of me, it hurts." Emily shook off his hand.
"Emily, if you can't say anything nice, you might as well sew your mouth shut." Michael slammed her door shut.
Emily took a deep breath, trying to calm down. 'Getting angry shortens your life. But how can I not be angry?' She thought. Watching him slam the door and leave, she got angrier and angrier, thinking Michael was just a capricious jerk. Emily sighed. Not only had she not managed to get a divorce, but now she had received a lawyer's letter from him. She had not only a divorce agreement but also an indictment.
Lying on the bed, Emily thought angrily. 'If Moonlit Treasures keeps pushing me, I will have to make other plans because I can't let Abigail get sued by Moonlit Treasures too. Besides, I don't want to go to court with Michael. That is the last resort.'
She had never wanted to take their issues to court. It felt like a stain on her youthful feelings. Whether it was the divorce or Moonlit Treasures' lawsuit, Emily hoped to resolve it privately.
Fortunately, the next day, Abigail's reply was that Moonlit Treasures had agreed to her proposal. They would give her a work account, but she needed to sign a long-term cooperation agreement.
Additionally, she had to post on Twitter and her work account that her relationship with Sophia was a collaboration, not plagiarism.
Emily laughed angrily. "I remember that the signature on the piece Sophia plagiarized wasn't Ella, but her own name, right? How can they be sure that piece was mine?"
Abigail said, "You underestimate those people in the design industry. Those design styles are obviously yours."
But Emily would never agree to this. Abigail knew that.
