The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 57 Resolving the Crisis
Michael didn't even glance at Sophia as he bolted outside. She yelled after him, her face clouded with gloom, "Michael, where are you going?"
But Michael didn't answer. The cold was creeping in, making him shiver uncontrollably.
He'd gone through all the club's surveillance footage and saw Emily leave, only to come back a bit later. She got into the elevator and then just vanished. Michael was livid. "Find her now! I don't care if you have to tear this place apart, replace Emily!"
Everyone, from the security team to Michael's own guys, started searching high and low for Emily.
Finally, Michael took a deep breath and thought, 'Where's the coldest place around here? Where could Emily be? Is she okay?'
He racked his brain and then told his assistant, "Quick, check if there's a cold storage here."
It hit him that the only place that cold had to be a cold storage. Since Emily hadn't left the club, she had to be inside somewhere.
The commotion caught the attention of Veda and the others in the private room. Daniel, who had just arrived, heard something had happened to Emily and rushed out.
When Michael opened the cold storage door and saw Emily curled up in the corner, his heart sank. He ripped off his coat and ran to her, scooping her unconscious body into his arms.
"Emily, Emily," Michael's voice shook. Seeing her like this terrified him. He carried her out, his mind racing.
Veda started crying, clueless about what had happened, while Daniel looked on, worried. He regretted not getting there sooner.
Daniel stepped forward to check on Emily, but Michael shoved him away. "Back off."
Daniel didn't want to fight. "I'm a doctor. Let me see how she is."
Besides worrying about Emily, Daniel was also thinking about the baby she was carrying. Michael had no choice but to let him. Kneeling, he held Emily close, her cold skin making him feel utterly helpless. Daniel checked her breathing. Thankfully, she was still alive.
Daniel called out to Emily a few times.
Michael, still kneeling, shouted, "Emily, if you die on me, I'll throw your mom out of the hospital right now."
Daniel said hastily, "We need to get her to the hospital, fast."
Michael carried Emily out. The ambulance they'd called was already waiting.
This whole mess had reached the folks at the old house.
Daniel knew Emily wasn't the type to do something reckless, especially not while pregnant. She wouldn't have come here alone or walked into a cold storage for no reason.
But for now, he had to push his doubts aside and follow them to the hospital. He had to keep Michael from replaceing out about Emily's pregnancy. If he did, things would get even tougher for her. When they got to the hospital, Mason and Zachary were already there.
Mason saw Michael carrying a pale Emily inside, looking just as pale and tense himself. For a moment, he felt a strange sense of relief. Maybe Michael was finally starting to care about Emily.
But right now, Emily's safety was the top priority. Everyone gathered outside the emergency room, waiting anxiously.
Daniel quickly changed into his scrubs and joined the medical team inside. Outside, Michael leaned against the wall of hospital corridor, looking pale and red-eyed.
Mason sternly questioned Michael, "What happened? How did Emily end up in the cold storage? Who dared to mess with the Smith Family's hostess? Wasn't she at Veda's birthday party? Where were you?"
Michael had no answers. He was busy comforting Sophia, another woman, instead of keeping an eye on Emily. The guilt gnawed at him. Seeing Michael's silence and pathetic demeanor, Mason angrily struck his cane against Michael's leg. "If anything happens to Emily, you're gonna regret it," Mason warned, genuinely worried and heartbroken for Emily.
Michael stayed silent, his face cold. Just then, Veda and Sophia showed up at the hospital.
Sophia's eyes flashed with panic when she saw Mason. He'd never liked her, and she hadn't expected to run into him here.
Inwardly cursing the idiots who'd left Emily in the cold storage, Sophia tried to keep her cool. She walked over and weakly said, "Grandpa."
Mason's face darkened even more. "What are you doing here?"
Sophia glanced at Michael, looking all pitiful, and moved closer. "Grandpa, I'm worried about Emily. How is she? Is she okay?"
Mason snorted but didn't say anything. Despite his dislike for Sophia, she was still Emily's stepsister, and he had to hold back his anger.
Sophia stood next to Michael and asked, "Michael, will Emily be alright?"
Michael replied indifferently, "She'll be fine. You should go back."
Seeing Michael's low mood and worried expression, Sophia clenched her fingers. 'Is he actually worried about Emily? Has he started to care for her? No, I can't let that happen.'
Trying to hide her panic, Sophia said, "Michael, it's okay. I'll stay here with you."
She leaned against Michael, saying nothing more, but her mind was racing with plans to make Michael give up on Emily.
Today was supposed to be a minor punishment for Emily. Sophia had planned for some thugs to knock Emily out and dump her in the mountains, but those idiots had left her in the cold storage, letting Michael replace her. The more Sophia thought about it, the angrier she got. Suddenly, the emergency room door opened, and Daniel was the first to come out.
Seeing the crowd, Daniel glared at Michael, but Mason immediately stepped forward. "Daniel, how is Emily?"
Daniel softened when he saw Mason. "Grandpa, Emily's out of danger. She just needs to rest."
Mason finally relaxed and nodded, then turned to Michael. "You stay here and take good care of Emily. If anything happens again, you're done for."
