The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 59 Eerie Atmosphere
Daniel looked at Emily with a soft smile. "Emily, this isn't on you. Don't beat yourself up over someone else's screw-up. Remember what the doctor said? You need to chill and rest so the baby stays healthy. Don't forget that, okay?" Emily lay there, feeling down and unable to shake off the fear. "Daniel, I just need some time alone."
Daniel nodded and left the room. Emily touched her belly, thinking about how close she came to losing her baby last night. 'I'm so sorry, baby. I should've protected you better.' The guilt was eating her up.
She wanted out of her marriage. She wanted a divorce, like, yesterday. The thought made her tear up. 'How did things get so messed up with Michael?'
During the week Emily was in the hospital, Michael showed up every day. But after seeing the look in her eyes when she told him to leave, he couldn't bring himself to go in.
On the day she was discharged, Michael finally walked into the room. Emily didn't kick him out or say a word; she just ignored him.
Ava was helping Emily pack. "Mrs. Smith, how did you end up back here? You need to take better care of yourself. When we get home, I'll whip up something tasty to help you recover."
Ava's concern warmed Emily a bit. She smiled, "Thanks, Ava."
As they packed, Michael spoke up, "Ava, can you give us a minute?"
Sensing the tension, Ava sighed and stepped out.
Michael moved closer and grabbed Emily's hand. "Emily, are you giving me the silent treatment? You're still mad, right?"
Emily pulled her hand away coldly. "She almost killed me. Can't I be mad? Mr. Smith, everyone has their pride. If you don't care about yours, I can disrespect you too."
She went back to packing. Michael, trying to keep his cool, softened his tone. "Emily, I know you're upset, but it's over now. Can we stop fighting?"
Emily almost laughed. "Fighting? You think I'm just fighting? Michael, be honest-do you even have a conscience?"
With that, she grabbed her stuff and walked out. Michael followed, trying to take her things, but she didn't stop.
Michael knew she had every right to be upset, but he didn't know how to fix it. "Emily, how about I take you to the charity auction at Silver Creek Manor tomorrow? I'll get you anything you want to make up for that day." Emily kept walking, ignoring him. After a few steps, she stopped and asked, "The charity auction at Silver Creek Manor?"
Thinking she was interested, Michael said, "Yeah, I'll take you. You can have anything you want."
Emily nodded. "Okay."
She knew Michael felt guilty, but she didn't care anymore.
She'd heard about the auction from Abigail a week ago. When she found out about the jewelry being auctioned, she knew she had to go. One piece, a hairpin named "Lucky," had her so excited she couldn't sleep. It was a special gift from Isabella, and she'd been searching for it for years.
After Isabella's accident, Emily never got the chance to retrieve "Lucky" from the Brown Family before Hayden sold it to cover some financial trouble. She could let go of everything else, but not "Lucky," which Isabella had made just for her. It was a gift from Isabella before her accident, a keepsake she treasured. The hairpin was crafted with such care for her coming-of-age ceremony, and Isabella had hoped she'd wear it on her wedding day.
Emily had been searching for this hairpin for years. Michael had taken her to countless charity auctions, but "Lucky" never showed up. She had no clue who bought it and never expected it to pop up now.
When she found out Hayden sold the hairpin, she was livid. She'd felt guilty and remorseful for years for not being able to retrieve Isabella's belongings, especially "Lucky."
The hairpin was made with gemstones and materials Isabella personally picked out. She crafted it herself, not some factory.
Isabella had wanted to create this unique gift with her own hands. She'd said she hoped "Lucky" would bring Emily a lifetime of happiness and success. Now, Isabella was still in a coma in the hospital, with no chance of making another gift. So when Emily saw the hairpin, she swore she'd get it back. It was her love and blessing. She had to go to the auction at Silver Creek Manor tomorrow.
After a week in the hospital, Emily felt gross. Even though she bathed every day there, it wasn't the same as being at home.
So the first thing she did when she got home was head straight to the bathroom for a shower.
But after she finished, she realized a problem: she forgot to bring clothes, and the bath towel was on the floor, unusable.
Emily felt a bit desperate. Even though this was her room and no one usually came in, she was too embarrassed to walk out naked.
Ava was downstairs and probably couldn't hear her. Just as she was about to give up and make a quick dash for it, Michael suddenly entered her room.
Emily breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness she hadn't run out naked, or she would've died of embarrassment.
Emily heard Michael outside asking, "Emily, you in the shower?"
Emily didn't want to respond, unsure of his intentions. She pressed herself against the door and locked it. Michael, not hearing a response but seeing the bathroom light on and a shadow moving behind the door, asked again, "Emily, you in there?"
Emily still didn't respond. Michael, worried something might be wrong, tried to open the bathroom door but found it locked.
Michael called out anxiously, "Emily, Emily, you okay?" Emily, gritting her teeth, didn't want to hear him shouting and weakly said, "Stop shouting. I forgot to bring clothes. Can you get me some?"
Michael hadn't expected that. Emily had been silent for so long, only to say this. He seemed to chuckle outside.
Emily's face turned red with anger while she wished she could replace a hole to crawl into.
Michael smirked and asked, "Where are your clothes?"
Emily, through gritted teeth, said, "In the closet in the dressing room. Just get me a pink nightgown."
Michael quickly left the bathroom door and returned with the clothes a few minutes later, saying, "Open the door. Here's your clothes."
Emily didn't know how to face the current situation, feeling both awkward and ambiguous.
Just this morning, they had been arguing fiercely, and now she was naked, asking Michael to bring her clothes.
