The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 61 The True Face of Sophia
Emily swung her hand to slap him, but Michael grabbed it again, holding it above her head. "Try that again, and I'll kiss you," he warned. Fuming, Emily snapped, "Why the hell did you bite me?"
"Fair's fair," Michael said, pointing to his own busted lip.
Emily glared daggers at him. "Michael, I didn't know you could be this shameless and childish. What's next? Marital rape?"
Michael's face twisted with anger and hurt. He wished he could shut her up. 'Why does she have to be such a prickly hedgehog now?'
He let go of her hand, snorted, and looked down at her. "Emily, you're just trying to piss me off, aren't you? You want me so mad I drop dead, so you don't have to get a divorce." Emily sat up, smirking. "Yep, if you kick the bucket, I get your estate without the hassle."
They bickered like kids, neither backing down. Finally, Michael stormed out, and Emily huffed, got into bed, and pulled the covers over her head.
For the Smith Corporation, replaceing out who locked Emily in the cold storage was a piece of cake. They didn't even need the cops. That night, Michael had Andrew bring Sophia to his office.
Sophia looked a bit off, probably from Veda's slap, with a noticeable mark on her face. But Michael felt no pity for her anymore. Sophia asked, "Michael, how's Emily? I want to see her, but I'm scared she'll be upset. Is she okay?" For the first time, Michael looked at Sophia with cold eyes, like he was seeing her for the first time.
Sophia felt uneasy under his gaze but tried to play it cool. "What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"
Michael questioned, "You're scared to see Emily? Is it fear or guilt?"
Sophia trembled and said, "Michael, I don't get what you mean."
Michael's eyes filled with complex emotions. 'How did the sweet girl from our childhood turn so ruthless?'
This was attempted murder. If they had been a bit later, Emily could have died. He thought of Emily accusing him of covering for Sophia. He hadn't given a answer for Emily's accusation.
Michael bombarded Sophia with questions, "Sophia, do you know what you've done? This is attempted murder. Do you think I wouldn't replace out? Do you think the Smith Family can't uncover your actions? Why did you do it?" Sophia's face went pale. She hadn't expected Michael to replace out so fast. She wanted to explain, but his direct gaze made her realize it was useless. The only option was to admit it and beg for forgiveness. She dropped to her knees, crying, "Michael, I'm sorry. I was wrong. I just wanted to teach Emily a lesson."
Sophia sobbed, "Emily won't divorce you, and she's forcing my dad to give her the Brown Corporation. I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to go this far. Please, Michael, save me. I don't want to go to jail. I'm sorry, Michael." Michael stared at Sophia, his eyes cold. "You owe an apology, but not to me. The person you wronged isn't me. Sophia, how did you turn into this?"
Sophia's tearful eyes met his, seeing the disgust and impatience there. She finally got it. 'Why? Why did it come to this?'
Michael pressed on, "Sophia, are you that impatient? I told you I'd divorce her. Are you that desperate?"
Sophia cried, "Michael, you keep telling me to wait. How long? I can't wait anymore."
Michael pulled her to her feet. "I'll handle this. But you can't ever do something like this again. This is attempted murder. When did you get so reckless?" Sophia sobbed, "I won't. I promise, Michael, I won't do it again."
Michael sighed and had Andrew take her home.
The whole thing ended unresolved. He knew Emily was bitter and wouldn't forgive Sophia. He also knew Sophia had crossed a line.
But he didn't want Sophia to go to jail, so he knew he'd let Emily down. He just wanted to make it up to her in other ways, so he agreed to take her to the charity auction at Silver Creek Manor tomorrow. Whatever Emily wanted, he'd buy it for her. He came to see her tonight to talk about the auction, but things had spiraled out of control.
Emily lay in bed, and in the morning, she patted her belly. "Baby, daddy doesn't like us, but I love you. I won't let anyone hurt you."
She'd let her guard down this time, but she wouldn't let it happen again. She wouldn't put herself in danger again.
Abigail showed up at Emerald Lake Manor early, bringing all of Emily's favorite foods. But when she arrived, she saw Michael was still there. This time, Abigail was really pissed and felt no fear in front of him. "Mr. Smith, aren't you going to explain yourself this time?" Abigail demanded, her face stern.
Michael knew what she meant and coldly replied, "This has nothing to do with you."
He was telling Abigail to butt out, and she got the message. But she was really worried about Emily, so she shot back, "Next time, Mr. Smith, keep an eye on Sophia and don't let her bully others." Michael's eyes flashed with anger, but Abigail didn't back down. She added, "If you can't treat Emily right, then let her go."
Abigail turned and went upstairs to replace Emily.
Michael was left fuming, his face dark with rage. It seemed like everyone thought they could criticize him now. One day, he'd make sure Emily understood that not just anyone could talk to him like that. Michael immediately called Ava. "Ava, who let her in?"
Ava didn't dare speak, just pointed upstairs, indicating that Emily had let her in. Michael fell silent, snorted, and left.
Emily told Abigail about the charity auction tonight, and Abigail patted her chest. "I'll go with you." She was actually scared that Sophia and Michael would bully Emily again.
