The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 98 Abigail Speaks Up for Justice
'Emily, how did things get so messed up?' In a swanky downtown area, Emily stood in a fancy apartment, staring out at the stunning view of Emerald City, letting out a quiet sigh. "Ms. Brown, have you decided yet?"
The real estate agent's voice snapped her back to reality. Emily forced a smile and turned around. "Is there a smaller place available? It's just me, and this place is way too big." Money was tight, and Emily had to replace a more affordable place, even if it broke her heart a little.
But life had a funny way of surprising her.
Just as Emily stepped out of the building, she bumped into Daniel.
"Emily? What are you doing here?" Daniel asked, his face lighting up.
Emily was just as surprised. It was her first day out on her own, and she felt lost. Seeing a familiar face was a huge relief.
"Daniel, what a coincidence! I'm looking for a new place to live," Emily said.
Daniel, being the sharp doctor he was, quickly picked up on the situation.
Emily was moving out of Michael's place. It was officially over between them.
"Wow, that is a coincidence. I live here, so I can help you look around."
"Really? Thanks, Daniel! But when did you start living here? I thought you usually drove to work?"
Emily didn't know where Daniel lived, but she knew this neighborhood was right across from Isabella's hospital. It didn't make sense to drive such a short distance every day.
"Yeah, it's close to the hospital! I've been so swamped with work that I got tired of commuting, so I rented a place here for convenience," Daniel said.
Daniel was fibbing to help Emily out. He usually stayed at his family's mansion and was just here to grab something from a friend. But now, he saw a chance to get closer to Emily, maybe even become neighbors, cook together, and see where things went. Why not?
Plus, renting a place downtown was no big deal for someone like Daniel, who, like Michael, came from money.
Meanwhile, Abigail's situation was way worse.
She was stuck at Emerald Lake Manor, held by Michael, who kept grilling her with questions.
"Did she call you this morning to say she was moving out?"
"Yes!"
Last night's drama must have really hurt her.
Michael thought for a moment and then asked another question. "Do you know how Emily makes a living?"
The sudden question threw Abigail off.
Michael didn't even know how Emily earned her money?
It was clear he didn't care about her at all!
Thinking this, Abigail looked up sharply at Michael.
Seeing his indifference, as if he were asking about a stranger, she became angry and snapped back, "You've been married to Emily for three years, Michael! And you don't even know how she makes a living? Do you even realize you're a married man? You have a wife!"
Michael shot back, "But we don't love each other."
"If you don't love each other, then get a divorce! What are you waiting for? Why are you stopping me? Isn't it because you want to see Emily? You domineering CEOs are all the same!"
After saying that, Abigail noticed Michael's face darken and decided to hold her tongue.
Michael didn't care about Abigail's rant. He just wanted to know how Emily had been living all these years.
"How else could she live? She took on odd jobs to earn some pocket money!"
"Your wealthy family has so many rules, not allowing her to work, but plenty of ways to spend money! Just from what I know, Emily spent thousands of dollars on Veda's birthday!"
"And once, when I took Emily for a massage, we ran into your mom. She forced Emily to buy her a $10,000 foot massage card, saying it was her duty to be filial!"
"You Smith Family looks glamorous on the outside, but you just like to exploit people and bully them!"
Abigail said a lot in one breath. With her fiery temper, she was getting more and more worked up. She didn't care about offending Michael anymore. She just wanted to vent her anger for Emily! After all, once she walked out of this door, they wouldn't have any further dealings!
"By the way, was it you who paid for Emily's hospital bills a few days ago?"
Michael frowned and asked Abigail. "How did you know?"
Abigail shrugged nonchalantly. "Isn't it obvious? Whenever there's a big expense, Emily's money is never enough, and she always has to borrow from me! This time she didn't, so clearly someone else paid for it!" The more Abigail spoke, the more emotional she became, her eyes even reddening.
Michael felt a sharp pain in his heart with every word Abigail said, as if a knife were stabbing him, making it hard to breathe.
And Ava, standing nearby, listened to every word Abigail said, crying uncontrollably, feeling deeply pained.
Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted the gloomy atmosphere.
Ava ran to open the door, thinking it was Emily, but it turned out to be Sophia.
Dressed provocatively in broad daylight, what was she doing at Emerald Lake Manor?
She should go flaunt herself at a bar and make some money!
Recalling Abigail's words, Ava got angry on Emily's behalf and impatiently asked Sophia, "What are you doing here?"
Sophia was taken aback. Seeing no one else around and an old maid opening the door, she couldn't help but laugh.
