The CEO’S Unplanned Heir novel (Aurelia and Leopold) -
Chapter 219
Chapter 219
After an extended silence, she answered simply, “I'm out for dinner, will be back when I'm done.”The truth was she didnt want to return home. She didn't like the scent of Evelyn on him.
There's nothing sadder for a woman than being married to a man who doesn’t love her.
She consoled herself with the thought that her predicament was temporary, only three moremonths to endure.
After dinner, Arnold took her for a drive around the Royal Emerald Resort.
The car window was slightly open, letting in the cool night breeze. It tousled his hair, giving him arugged, handsome look.
Aurelia couldn't help but admire him. Apart from Leopold, he was the most handsome man she hadever seen. No wonder he was the apple of every supermodel’s eye, they were all hopelessly in lovewith him
When the car stopped at an intersection, Arnold turned to her and asked, “Are you cold? Should Iclose the window?"
“No need,” she shook her head, “a little breeze is nice.”
Arnold gave her a warm smile, “Next time, I'll take you somewhere where you can actually see thestars.”
She returned the smile, “Speaking of stars, I remember the night sky in Willowbrook. It was the mostbeautiful sight I've ever seen.”
Arnold reached out and gently brushed a loose strand of hair from her face. “Stargazing issomething to be shared with someone you like... or a good friend. It's only then that you can trulyappreciate the beauty of the night sky. Stargazing alone...” he trailed off, his gaze lost somewhere inthe distance.
Aurelia caught the subtle change in his expression.
“I've seen the photos you took in Antarctica. They're beautiful, but also lonely and melancholic. Youmust
have been alone.”
His eyes met hers, “When my father passed away, I joined an Antarctic expedition team as aphotographer. Under the Antarctic night sky, I felt like I was the only person left in the world.”
She gave him a serious look, “Until you replace someone you truly like, I can accompany you tostargaze. After all, we're good friends. With me by your side, you won't be alone.”
The gentle glow of a streetlamp illuminated her radiant face. His heart beat furiously at the sight ofher.
“In fact, you're the one I like.” He thought.
All his emotions were held back, buried deep within him. He was more afraid of losing her thanlosing to Leopold. The more time he spent with her, the more he doubted he could win her heart. He was afraid of losing her to Leopold, afraid she would become a regret that he could never letgo.
Suddenly, he reached out and held her hand. “Aurelia, can you promise me that no matter whathappens, you'll always stay with me? You won't push me away?"
Her hand tensed slightly before relaxing again. She gave him a reassuring smile, “I promise you,we'll always be best friends, each other's confidants. I'll be there for you whenever you need me. Nomatter what happens, I'll never push you away.”
Her gentle voice was like a feather brushing against his heart, bringing him a sense of comfort.“Thank you. To have a confidant in life is enough.”
“I feel the same way,” she said, her eyes curving into a crescent moon smile.
When she got out of the car, Leopold was standing on the balcony. He instantly recognized Arnold'scar and his eyebrows furrowed in anger.
Aurelia walked in with a contented smile on her face. Every time she was with Arnold, she feltrelaxed and happy. They shared common interests and language, a connection of souls... and shewould forget all her worries. Seeing her smile, Leopold's heart felt like it was being pierced by athorn, twisting and turning
inside him.
