Janet's face lost all color as she caught sight of Clarisse stepping out.

Clarisse's expression darkened at Charles's words. She rushed to Janet, who was slumped on the ground, and helped her to her feet. "Janet, what's wrong? Are you hurt?" Charles, meanwhile, turned on his heel, opened the car door with a flourish, and slid inside.

Janet was not about to let it go. She shoved Clarisse aside and dashed for the car, reaching for the passenger door.

Noelle had been waiting for Charles inside, watching the drama unfold. Should she step out and stake her claim, confronting the woman who dared to chase after her husband?

Noelle bit her lip, torn between revealing their secret relationship and keeping it under wraps. She was Charles's wife, after all, and it was not easy to watch another woman constantly eyeing her husband. Noelle knew she was not the type to just let it slide.

Luckily for her, Charles did not seem to return Janet's feelings. In fact, he seemed to despise her. Noelle could not help but stifle a giggle when she saw Charles toss his coat aside after Janet had touched it, even wiping his hands clean as if he had touched something gross.

She was not mean-spirited, but seeing Charles's reaction to Janet's advances brought her a wicked sense of joy. She might have been reveling in Janet's misfortune, but any woman would have done the same to her husband's not-so-secret admirer!

Noelle could not understand Janet's complete lack of awareness. No matter how much Charles showed his distaste, Janet bounced back like nothing happened, ready to cling to him all over again.

Noelle prided herself on reading social cues well. If she were in Janet's shoes, she would be mortified by such rejection from Charles. She would avoid him at all costs or at least take the long way around to steer clear of him.

That just confirmed Noelle's belief that she was not as delusional as some.

However, what Noelle absolutely did not expect was Janet's return, yanking the car door open.

Noelle's heart raced as she clutched the door handle, her eyes wide as she stared at the woman through the closed car window. Janet might have the reputation of a refined lady, but right then, she was acting more like a bull in a china shop, tugging at the car door with surprising force.

Noelle glanced over at Charles with a look of frustration. Charles's expression was stormy as he hit the lock button, and Noelle finally let out a relieved breath.

"Seatbelt," Charles reminded, giving Noelle's shoulder a gentle pat.

"Right." Noelle nodded, blurting out a response before clamping her mouth shut. They might be hidden from view, but their voices could still carry outside.

Janet had picked up on the conversation and got even more worked up. She dashed to the front of the car, desperate to identify the mysterious female voice.

Noelle, realizing the danger, quickly ducked down.

Charles shot Noelle a meaningful look before his gaze shifted to Janet, who was frantically pounding on the hood. Annoyance flickered in his eyes. He revved the engine and floored it, narrowly missing Janet as he drove off.

"Ah!" Janet's scream echoed as the car sped away, sending her rolling on the ground. Her body crashed into the dirt.

Janet felt like her insides were tearing apart. She rolled several times before slamming into a nearby pile of grass, unable to get back on her feet. Clarisse watched the scene unfold, staring at Janet in complete shock.
