The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles) -
Chapter 665
She never imagined Janet could be so reckless or that her own son could be so callous, driving without a second thought for Janet's safety. Luckily, Janet had been at the side of the car, not in front of it. Had Janet been in front of the car, she might have been hit and thrown into the air.
"Aunt, it hurts so much!" Janet clung to Clarisse, tears streaming down her face. "It hurts, Aunt. Why would Charles do this to me? He's found someone else. He's got another girl. Aunt, I can't stand it! Charles belongs to me. How could he just run me over? He had a woman in his car just now. I know he's with someone else."
"Janet, are you okay?"
"There, there. Don't cry, Janet. I'm here for you, and Charles has really crossed the line this time. How could he treat you like that?" Clarisse was deeply disappointed by Charles's behavior.
She thought Charles was just upset with her for leaving him behind years ago, but she never imagined he would stoop so low as to run someone over with his car. Her heart went out to Janet. She felt heartbroken for Janet, and she did not give a second thought to Charles's feelings. She certainly did not trust Charles. Knowing Charles as she did, it was unthinkable that he would be a bad enough driver or so reckless as to hit someone. He was simply being unreasonable!" Charles left the Hoffman family's old house in his car, his expression dark and stormy the whole drive.
He did not want to return to the Hoffman family after Clarisse and Janet's arrival. In the past, he might have been reluctant, but he would still show up there and then. However, now, he did not want to come at all. He would not have even considered it if it were not for dropping Nancy off at home.
Clarisse's antics and schemes kept blowing Charles's mind. Every time he thought he had her figured out, she would do something even more crazy and then act like it was everyone else's fault but hers. "Charles?"
Noelle could feel the weight on Charles's shoulders. She gently took his hand. "What's up?"
Charles turned to her, his smile a bit forced but comforting nonetheless. "Nothing!" he said quickly, then changed the subject. "Hey, what do you want to eat for dinner?"
Noelle let out a soft sigh. "Charles, we're in this together, you know. We're husband and wife, and we promised to stick with each other through thick and thin. If something's bugging you, just tell me Don't shoulder the burden yourself."
She really wanted him to feel comfortable opening up about anything, whether it was good or bad.
"Silly girl. I'm all good," he said, his voice rough with tiredness he was trying to mask. "Let's think about dinner, okay? We'll hit the grocery store later for some fresh produce."
"Okay, fine," Noelle agreed, but then
she leaned in closer, her voice a whisper in his ear. "Charles, no matter what happens, remember you've got me. I'm here for you? always." She kissed his earlobe and then his chin with a tenderness that spoke volumes.
Charles's eyes clouded over with emotion, his throat tight as he swallowed hard. The car slowed to a crawl as they continued their journey.
He turned to look at Noelle, his gaze
deep and intense. His throat moved as if he was trying to swallow his emotions, his eyes soft with feelings he could not quite name. "Noelle, don't start something now
