The Day I Kissed An Older Man -
Chapter 2487
The reporters did not stop to think that if Melody had ulterior motives, how could she have possibly gotten close to Lucas? That would be underestimating him! After all those years of maneuvering in the business world, could he not see through any woman with ill intentions?
Perhaps they did not care about facts at all; they just wanted to hear from Lucas' mouth that Melody was pursuing him. They did not care about Melody's dignity at all. It would be enough for them to write news articles if they could get a few words from Lucas. The more information they had, the more traffic they could generate. In this era, the one who could ultimately conquer the world would be the one who had the most traffic.
Once the two of them overcame the obstacles and returned to the car, Melody finally sighed in relief. Apart from the chauffeur, there were only the two of them in the car. Thus, she did not bother to hide how upset she was.
Compared to Lucas, she was often overlooked for her abilities; people only saw her beauty and Lucas' wealth. Everyone assumed that being with Lucas gave her a huge advantage, and to be honest, Melody felt the same way too.
She often thought how lucky she was to have met Lucas. Lucas was a godsent gift. However, being constantly questioned like that made her feel very uncomfortable. She could not help but wonder when they would be seen as a perfect match by others.
Melody sighed, knowing that this matter would be difficult and lengthy. She just did not want others to doubt their relationship when they saw them together, and always felt that they would not last. She hoped to receive blessings for her relationship with Lucas, not curses.
Lucas sensed that something was amiss and leaned in toward Melody, stroking her hair as he asked, "What's wrong? Are you upset? What happened today with the reporters is quite unexpected. I promise I won't let you get caught up in something like this again."
Melody leaned against Lucas' shoulder and shook her head, her hair brushing against his face, tickling him. "It's not because of that. I've expected that it might not be so convenient for us to go out together in the future. Although I'm not very famous right now, there are still some people who want to get a piece of me. These gossip reporters will never give up the opportunity to create scandal about me. Today was truly unexpected. You didn't expect it either. I know I can't rely on you for everything, but..."
Upon hearing Melody's words, Lucas immediately sat up straight, lifted her chin, and asked, "What do you mean you can't rely on me for everything?"
Melody blinked innocently. "I'm just stating a fact. I'm an independent woman, and you can't always be by my side. So how can I rely on you for everything? If you weren't with me today, I'd have to face the reporters alone, right?"
Although Melody was right, it still did not sit well with Lucas. He wished to be someone Melody could rely on at all times.
"Whether I can be by your side is one thing, but whether you want to rely on me is another," said Lucas.
After understanding what Lucas was hung up about, Melody suddenly burst into laughter. "Alright, I see what you mean now." She sighed. "To be honest, I feel quite upset. I didn't want to answer any of those questions from the reporters. Will I have to face these kinds of questions every time I'm interviewed in the future?"
Melody expressed her vulnerability appropriately, willing to share her concerns with Lucas, making him particularly appreciative.
