THE DEVIL HERSELF -
Chapter 28
After all was said and done, Lars and Alex was taken to the detention room, when they will stay until a judgement is passed on them. The dim light from the single bulb hanging from the ceiling cast eerie shadows in the small, windowless room where Alec, Lars, and Scar were now imprisoned. Scar, her eyes covered with an eye patch, sat quietly in the corner, the raw pain of her injuries mingling with the uncertainty of her future. Alec and Lars, on the other hand, exchanged heated glares, each convinced of the other's guilt.
Alec, his voice a low growl, broke the silence. "You've got a lot of nerve, Lars, trying to pin this on me."
Lars scoffed, leaning back against the wall. "You think I care about you enough to frame you? You're not worth my time."
Scar shifted slightly, her voice hoarse but firm. "Both of you, shut up. Arguing won't get us out of here."
The tension in the room was thick, each of them consumed by their own fears and frustrations. Suddenly, the oppressive silence was shattered by the blaring of an alarm. The sound reverberated through the compound, causing the three prisoners to jump to their feet, their hearts pounding with renewed urgency.
In the control room, Scarlet, Chance, Diego, and Rachel were already gathered, their eyes fixed on the monitors displaying the surveillance feeds. Scarlet's sharp gaze quickly picked out the unusual activity on one of the screens. "Look," she said, pointing to the image of Natalia speaking urgently into a phone in a secluded corner of the compound. "What's she doing?"
Chance's fingers flew over the keyboard, hacking into Natalia's phone with practiced ease. The screen flickered, and a stream of text messages and call logs appeared. He scanned them quickly, his eyes widening with realization. "Boss," Chance said, his voice tense, "Natalia is the one behind all of this. She's been orchestrating the leaks and framing Alec, Lars, and Scar. She's trying to cover her tracks right now."
Scarlet's eyes blazed with fury. "Where is she now?"
Rachel pointed to the monitor. "She's still in the secluded spot, on the phone. We need to move fast."
"Diego, Rachel," Scarlet commanded, "capture her and bring her to the Snake Room. We need answers, and we need them now."
Diego and Rachel nodded, their expressions grim. They moved swiftly through the compound, their footsteps echoing off the stone walls. As they approached the secluded area, they could hear Natalia's voice, strained and desperate. "Yes, I need to move quickly," Natalia was saying into the phone. "They're getting too close. I can't afford any mistakes now."
Rachel and Diego exchanged a glance, then burst into the clearing. Natalia's eyes widened in shock, and she dropped the phone, scrambling to her feet. Diego was on her in an instant, pinning her arms behind her back while Rachel retrieved the phone.
"You're coming with us," Diego said, his voice cold and unyielding.
Natalia struggled briefly, then sagged in defeat as they dragged her back to the compound. In the Snake Room, the walls were lined with glass enclosures housing various species of serpents, their eyes glinting in the dim light. Natalia was shoved inside, the door locking with a heavy thud behind her.
Scarlet, Chance, and the others arrived shortly after, their faces grim as they faced Natalia through the glass. Scarlet's voice was icy. "You have a lot to answer for, Natalia. Start talking."
Natalia lifted her head, a defiant glint in her eyes. "I'll speak, but only if Dracula is here. I won't say a word until then."
Scarlet's expression hardened. "Dracula is on a mission. He won't be back for another three hours. You're going to sit here until then."
Natalia didn't respond, merely slumping against the wall of the enclosure, her eyes closed in resignation. The others exchanged uneasy glances.
"This isn't over," Scarlet said softly, more to herself than anyone else. "We'll get to the bottom of this."
The hours crawled by with agonizing slowness. In the Snake Room, Natalia remained silent, her posture one of stubborn resistance. Scarlet, Chance, Diego, and Rachel waited in the adjoining room, their minds racing with unanswered questions.
Finally, as the three-hour mark approached, the sound of footsteps echoed down the corridor. Dracula, tall and imposing, stepped into the room, his presence commanding immediate attention. His piercing eyes scanned the faces of his comrades before settling on the glass enclosure where Natalia sat.
"I hear we have a traitor," Dracula said, his voice a low rumble.
Scarlet nodded. "She's been behind the leaks and the frame-ups. She insisted on speaking only to you."
Dracula approached the glass, his gaze locking with Natalia's. "Well, here I am. Start talking."
Natalia took a deep breath, her defiance wavering under Dracula's intense scrutiny. "It was never supposed to get this far," she began, her voice trembling slightly. "I was approached by someone from the Hunter's Clan. They offered me money, protection, everything I needed to get out of here. All I had to do was feed them information."
"And you decided to betray us?" Dracula's voice was low, dangerous.
Natalia swallowed hard. "I didn't think they'd come after me. I thought I could control it, keep it under wraps. But then things started spiraling out of control. They wanted more and more, and I couldn't stop. I had to cover my tracks, so I framed Alec, Lars, and Scar. I needed someone to take the fall."

Natalia's eyes filled with tears. "I know. I know I've made a terrible mistake. But it's not just me. The Hunter's Clan has a mole inside our ranks. Someone else is feeding them information." Dracula's gaze intensified. "Who?"
Natalia shook her head. "I don't know. They never told me who it was. But I overheard something-something about a high-ranking member. Someone close to you."
Scarlet clenched her fists. "We need to root this out. We can't afford any more betrayals."
Dracula nodded. "We'll replace the mole. But for now, Natalia, you will remain here until we decide your fate."
Natalia's shoulders slumped as she realized the gravity of her situation. Scarlet turned to the others. "We need to re-evaluate everything. Double-check all our security measures. No stone left unturned."
Chance nodded, already thinking of ways to enhance their digital defenses. Diego and Rachel exchanged grim looks, ready to do whatever it took to protect the clan.
As they exited the room, leaving Natalia behind the glass, Scarlet's mind raced with the implications of Natalia's confession. A high-ranking mole? The thought was almost too much to bear, but she steeled herself. They had faced danger before and emerged stronger. They would do so again.
The following days, were a whirlwind of activity. Chance upgraded the clan's computer systems, implementing new security protocols and setting traps for any unauthorized access. Diego and Rachel interrogated each member, scrutinizing their recent activities and looking for any signs of betrayal.
Scarlet spent hours poring over reports and surveillance footage, her mind never at rest. Dracula, meanwhile, took a more direct approach, using his considerable influence and connections to gather intelligence on the Hunter's Clan. One evening, as Scarlet sat alone in her office, the door creaked open, and Dracula stepped in. His presence was a reassuring reminder of the strength and resilience they shared.
"We're getting close," Dracula said, his voice a low rumble. "I've got a lead on someone in the Hunter's Clan who might know more about this mole."
Scarlet looked up, her eyes tired but determined. "Who?"

"A contact of mine, someone who owes me a favor. They're willing to talk, but it won't be easy. We need to meet them in neutral territory."
Scarlet nodded. "Let's set it up. We can't afford to waste any more time."
The meeting was arranged for the following night, in a secluded clearing deep within the forest. Scarlet and Dracula arrived first, their senses alert for any signs of danger. A few minutes later, a hooded figure emerged from the shadows, their movements cautious.
"You must be Scarlet," the figure said, their voice muffled by the hood.
Scarlet nodded. "And you have information for us?"
The figure nodded. "There's someone in your ranks working with the Hunter's Clan. A high-ranking member, as you suspected. They've been feeding information to a man named Marcus, one of the Hunter's top operatives." "Do you have a name?" Dracula asked, his tone urgent.
The figure hesitated. "I don't know their identity. But Marcus does. He keeps all his information in a secure location, a cabin deep in the woods. If you can get to it, you'll replace what you need."
Scarlet's mind raced. "How do we get there?"
"I'll give you the coordinates," the figure replied. "But be careful. The cabin is heavily guarded. You'll need to be smart about this."
Scarlet and Dracula exchanged a glance, determination etched in their features. "We'll handle it," Scarlet said. "Thank you."
The figure nodded and disappeared back into the shadows, leaving Scarlet and Dracula to ponder their next move.
The next day, they gathered their most trusted members, including Chance, Diego, and Rachel. Scarlet laid out the plan, her voice steady and confident.
"We're going to Marcus' cabin. It's heavily guarded, so we'll need to be quick and precise. Chance, you'll handle the digital security. Diego, Rachel, you'll cover our backs. Dracula and I will go in for the information." Everyone nodded, their expressions resolute.
