The Divorced Heiress’s Revenge -
Chapter 2239
Even if it was just because of health reasons, it still seemed a bit excessive. Besides, when Nigel learned that his eldest grandson's health had improved, there was not even a trace of joy on his face.
Instead, there was a hint of wariness and fear.
What was Nigel afraid of?
Was he worried that Grant's return would threaten the inheritance originally meant for Justin?
However, a third of Salvador Corporation's shares and core industries were still under Nigel's control. Justin also held some shares and occupied the CEO position.
Even if Gregory's heart leaned toward his eldest son, it would not be easy for Grant to take over Salvador Corporation.
So, what exactly was the old man, who had weathered countless storms, so afraid of?
...
When Grant left the hospital, he was still in a wheelchair.
Clarice and the bodyguards assisted him into a luxurious Bentley. As soon as he straightened his back and the car started to move, Bella suddenly dashed out, her hands clutching the rising car window glass with a fierce grip.
The bodyguard slammed on the brakes. Clarice's heart leaped in shock as she angrily glared at Bella's cold, beautiful face.
"Ms. Thompson, why are you suddenly grabbing someone's car door like this? Do you have a death wish?!"
Grant raised his long, clean hand, signaling Clarice to stay quiet. He then turned to Bella with a gentle smile in his eyes. "Ms. Thompson, do you have something to say to me?"
Bella's tongue brushed against her teeth. "Yes."
Clarice and the bodyguards waited outside while Grant invited Bella to sit inside the car.
A faint scent of medicine tinged the car interior, mingling with a subtle fragrance lingering in the air.
Bella frowned slightly. That faint scent made her uneasy.
It felt somewhat familiar. However, it was so subtle that it vanished as soon as she caught a whiff of it. It left her with no time to recall where she had smelled it before.
"Ms. Thompson, if you have something to say, go ahead." Grant turned his well-defined, handsome face toward her, his voice low and smooth as it reached her ears.
"You've lived in Meridan for many years for your treatments. You must have had close connections with many pharmaceutical companies and medical institutions, right?" Bella asked in a deep voice.
Grant nodded slightly. "Yes, I do have some connections. When your father had a stroke, Justin even flew to Meridan specifically to ask me about medication."
"You must have heard of the RC Biotech Research Centre, right? It's quite authoritative in the field of biopharmaceuticals over there."
Grant's gaze deepened, his eyes gleaming like dark jade in the dimly lit car. "I've heard of it."
"Then, I'll need your help." Bella
pulled out a blood test report for
Justin from her bag and handed it to him. "Justin's coma is due to a drug that has suppressed his brain activity. We've investigated the drug and found that it contains several banned substances that don't match any compounds found domestically.
"I suspect it's an illegal drug from overseas. I've heard Christopher mention RC multiple times. Since RC's base is in Meridan, I believe this drug originated there. Mr. Grant, you once saved Justin's life during the kidnapping incident, and now you've come all this way for him again. It's clear you share a deep brotherly bond. I assume you also want Justin to wake up as soon as possible, right?"
Grant studied her delicate, pale face, his voice turning hoarse. "Justin and I may not share the same mother, but we grew up together. Of course, I want him to recover. It isn't just for his sake, but for yours, too.
The lingering tenderness in his tone sent a chill down Bella's spine, causing her to instinctively avoid his gaze, which seemed to be shrouded in mist.
"If Justin never wakes up, wouldn't the rose he so carefully nurtured wither away?"
"I'm not a rose. So, I'll never wither."
