The Ex-Wife Strikes Back By Queena Laurie -
Chapter 69
Chapter 69
Jacob might not be that type of person, but he needed to be treated with caution.
At that moment, Marco knocked on the door of the private room and peered inside. “Mr. Miller, Ms. Swanson, the car has
arrived!”
“Aurelia, let’s go!”
“Okay!” Aurelia nodded and obediently let him hold her hand as they walked out of the private room.
The hotel’s CEO, who had rushed upon hearing the news of their departure, bid them farewell with polite and deferential gestures, much to Aurelia’s dismay.
Jacob’s displeasure was evident.
“Alright, it’s not like we’re not coming back. Stop causing a scene and get back to work!“,
“Yes, Mr. Miller! Take care!”
The hotel’s CEO, despite being scorned and rebuked by Jacob, didn’t show any signs of embarrassment or unease. On the contrary, his smile became even more obsequious and ingratiating.
After all, if Jacob was willing to scold him, it meant that he treated him with respect and hospitality, which he appreciated. If Jacob didn’t even bother to scold someone, it would indicate that his hotel business was not doing well.
This was a deeply ingrained cultural aspect.
It was a one–of–a–kind scene in Tospait that would be difficult for foreigners to comprehend.
There was reason to believe that businessmen were masters of seizing opportunities, especially those who had business. dealings with officers. They were individuals who were truly astute.
Despite their lack of involvement in the political system, businessmen were believed to be well–versed in the culture and rules of the political scene.
As for Aurelia herself, she probably didn’t know that the scene of her being led out of the private room by Jacob while holding hands would leave a lasting impression on the hotel CEO.
In fact, the CEO soon made considerable efforts to replace out Aurelia’s background and identity, all in order to replace an opportunity to flatter her.
This undoubtedly demonstrated their remarkable ability to exploit any advantage.
They went directly to the underground parking lot of the hotel using the elevator.
When Aurelia saw the car, parked not far from the elevator exit, a black limited–edition flagship Mulliner 728, she couldn’t help but feel a little shocked and taken aback, despite being mentally prepared for Jacob’s car to be impressive.
It was a bit too flashy!
She couldn’t decide whether to call Jacob clever or intentionally pretend to be ignorant.
He clearly knew that his father was the state governor, yet he didn’t choose to be more discreet when going out. Instead, he openly drove such an expensive car, seemingly unconcerned about the gossip it would generate.
However, Aurelia soon laughed at her own rumination. Jacob, being so astute and composed, must have considered and handled all possible consequences before driving this car.
Not to mention, simply putting the ownership of the car in someone else’s name would dismiss
any
attacks.
She mused, “Could it be that the son of the state governor couldn’t afford a luxury car and didn’t have the option to borrow
one from a friend?”
This reason alone could refute all criticisms.

“How do you like the car?” Jacob asked with a smile.
“Very good!”
She noted, “If something worth around 2.6 million dollars couldn’t be considered good, then what else would?”
Of course, Aurelia believed that by New Year’s Eve next year, with the fortune she had made from her stocks, she could easily buy 20 cars like this and still have more than enough.
However, she knew that her wealth had come too easily, and she couldn’t allow herself to be so ostentatious.
Hence, despite soon becoming a multi–millionaire, it wasn’t the right time to openly buy such a car.
“Do you like it? “From now on, it’s yours!”
Jacob made this announcement while taking the key from Marco’s hand and placing it into Aurelia’s.
Aurelia looked at him in bewilderment as her expression instantly grew serious.
“I don’t want it! I’ve already said that our relationship isn’t about what I can gain from you. I’ve also said that if I need money, I have plenty of ways to earn it on my own without relying on a man!”
“You’re thinking too much! I’m not as vulgar as you imagine, thinking that with just this car, I can win you over and have your heart. If it were really that easy, then you wouldn’t be worth my effort, and I wouldn’t be worth your stubborn resistance.”
“What do you mean?”
Aurelia looked at him in confusion.
“Actually, it doesn’t mean much. I simply want to indulge the woman in my life. I’ve owned this car for a long time, and I rarely get the chance to use it. Instead of letting it gather dust in the garage, why not let it contribute to your enjoyment? What do you think?”
“But you know, given my status, it would be too ostentatious for me to drive this car every day!”
Aurelia sighed and thought, “Even if you, as the son of the state governor, drive this car, it’s considered ostentatious. If you give it to me, am I not being ostentatious as well?”
“My old man is just a former Senate speaker, and that’s how others view him, as someone who has been relegated to the past,” Jacob said.
“I don’t want it either!”
“No, you have to take it! I’ve already said it, so it’s yours. I’ll have someone arrange for a new license plate for you. The transfer process will be taken care of in a couple of days. As for everything else, don’t worry. There will be people to handle the driver, maintenance, and repairs. Just enjoy it with peace of mind!”
“But…”
“Alright, enough of this. Let’s go, get in the car. I’ll drive you back to the hotel!”
Aurelia was now stripped of even the right to protest, and she was simply shoved into the car.
She let the original driver take the wheel and they headed straight toward her hotel.
Following behind the two Mulliner 728s were Jacob’s two personal secretaries and another Audi A8L.
It was evident that the latter car was Jacob’s regular mode of transportation, and now, by tagging along, it was clear that she had no choice but to accept it.
Aurelia felt somewhat speechless as she looked at the man beside her. She thought, “Who forces someone so insistently to accept gifts?”
When they arrived at the hotel where Aurelia would be staying, Jacob didn’t suggest going up to sit for a while. Instead, he promptly got out of the car.
He pointed to the driver who had been driving them. “His name is Andrew, He is a retired veteran of the Marine Corps. He has

over fifteen years of driving experience and he used to drive for me. From now on, he’ll be with you.”
“Of course, if you don’t want him, I can arrange someone else for you until you’re satisfied!”
Aurelia was at a loss for words.
“Let Andrew take you to visit the supervisors tomorrow. He knows where the departmental supervisors of the Nuthana are, and it will prevent you from wasting time due to unfamiliar routes.”
Aurelia was rendered speechless.
“If you can manage to meet me and have a meal before you return, give me a call. If you can’t make it, then forget about it!”
“There’s a box in the car with a phone inside, the most advanced anti–eavesdropping phone obtained from the National Security Agency. It has the same level of confidentiality as my dad’s phone. There’s only one number in the contact list, which is mine.”
Aurelia remained silent.
“Since you’ve heard it clearly, I’ll go now.”
With that, Jacob swiftly got into the Audi that awaited him with open doors.
The Audi turned around and drove off into the distance as soon as the doors were shut.
Aurelia was left alone, standing still in the same spot, watching the Audi with its flickering red taillights merge into the flow of traffic on the road.
Andrew, the dedicated driver of the Mulliner 728, stood by the car, maintaining a poised and composed demeanor. It seemed as if he hadn’t heard a single word of the conversation that had just taken place between Jacob and Aurelia.
Aurelia bent down once again and reached into the back seat of the car. As expected, she found a white gift bag inside the burgundy storage compartment.
Inside the bag was a black box. When she opened it, she discovered a sleek, ivory–colored business phone with a somewhat gender–neutral design, lying peacefully inside.
The bag also contained a charger, a portable power bank, a spare battery pack, data cables, and other accessories.
The phone was already powered on, and when she lightly tapped the screen, an initial user setup page with fingerprint authentication appeared.
Aurelia’s expression became complex as she pressed her index finger onto the sensor. The phone immediately displayed a successful fingerprint authentication, indicating that her fingerprint would be required to unlock the device in the future.
As she explored the various features, she realized that she could set additional passwords for added security, ensuring the utmost protection for the owner’s privacy and confidential information.
It was no wonder Jacob had mentioned that the security level of this phone was on par with his father’s.
With such high–end and comprehensive features, as well as robust security measures, phones with similar functionalities were already available on the market by 2016 in her previous life when she died in a car accident.
However, it was only 2006 now, and it was not surprising that cutting–edge technology was primarily utilized in highly classified sectors and military applications.
Only the heirs of rich political families, with status and backgrounds, could benefit from and have access to these top–secret technologies.
As she pondered, “Isn’t it because I’ve benefited from Jacob’s influence that I have the opportunity to use such things?”
Aurelia held the phone in her hand and glanced at the imposed Mulliner 728. Unable to hold back a sigh, she murmured, “Jacob is truly formidable! He’s determined to make me indebted to him, without giving me a chance to repay him. It seems that he’s resolved to keep me tightly bound to him.”
Even though she understood his motives and schemes, evading them seemed impossible.

She couldn’t help but feel a weight on her heart.
As a woman, being pampered and favored by a man undoubtedly stirred her emotions.
However, when such favor came at the cost of her freedom, Aurelia couldn’t bring herself to be moved; she only felt profoundly exhausted.
