Chapter 88
Hayden was silent and motionless as if he hadn’t heard Jacob’s words at all. Even his eyes, focused on the documents in front of him, didn’t blink.
“Hey! If you keep ignoring me, I’ll leave, okay? I can really leave… Come on, buddy. I’m begging you, can’t you forgive me? Can’t we just move on?” Jacob pleaded.
“I’m willing to accept punishment. Just tell me how you want to deal with me! I only ask you to say something or even just look at me. Don’t treat me like I’m invisible!”
Hayden finally reacted, raising his head slightly. His deep gaze was filled with a hint of coldness as he looked at Jacob. “Don’t you know what you did to provoke me?”
Jacob felt a slight pang in his heart, sensing that something wasn’t right.
However, he maintained a confused and puzzled expression on his face. “Boss, I really have no idea. If you don’t tell me, would I know?”
how
“Oh? Pretending, huh? Keep pretending! You should have been in the film industry with your acting skills, instead of running a trading company. Otherwise, it would be such a waste of your talent, which is comparable to that of a movie star, Hayden sarcastically remarked.
“Hayden, come on, don’t treat me like this. What’s the matter? Just tell me, why are you behaving this way? Do you really have to be so sarcastic? If I really did something wrong. I can immediately organize a banquet at the Peace Hotel to make it up to you, Jacob said, trying to diffuse the situation.
“Don’t give me that. I heard you had some free time recently, and you even taught my useless little cousin a lesson?” Hayden said, his dangerous gaze fixed on Jacob. “Tell me, how did he offend you?”
Jacob sighed inwardly, realizing that his fears had come true. It seemed that Hayden’s behavior was indeed related to that incident. Now it was confirmed!
However, it was also a good thing. Hayden was directly addressing the matter and confronting him face to face. It meant that there was still room for discussion.
If Hayden knew about the incident but didn’t say anything, despite feeling uncomfortable, it would be a sign of distance and estrangement.
Jacob felt a slight sense of relief as the burden that had weighed on him for days seemed to dissipate along with Hayden’s mentioning the issue. A smile even appeared on his face as he shook his head repeatedly.
“Hayden, you’re misunderstanding me. Even if he weren’t your little cousin, just based on his surname, Yeager, I couldn’t possibly teach him a lesson. Don’t you believe it? Bring him here and let him speak for himself. Ask him if I did anything to
him.”

“Oh! So, after you scolded him and sent him back to Druobridge on a plane overnight, you’re telling me that’s escorting him and not teaching him a lesson, huh? Do you want me to thank you? Maybe give you an award or something?”
Hayden’s anger was escalating after he heard what Jacob said.
Jacob forced a smile. “Hayden, come on, don’t misinterpret me. I didn’t mean it that way. You’re just blaming me! Fine! I admit that I may have been a bit harsh on your younger brother, Brandon. It’s not even mid–June yet, and I have to settle this debt!” Jacob said, trying to appease Hayden.
“Hey, buddy, pay attention. I’m right here, so let loose your insults. If you’re still unsatisfied, you can replace a private, no, replace two, replace two privates to watch over me, get me onto a plane, and send me back to Xandenia, okay?” Jacob continued.
“After you’ve finally calmed down, you can then ask me to come back. I promise to not refute you at all. My attitude is sincere enough, right? Are you satisfied? If not, say whatever you want. Tell me what you want, and I’ll act accordingly!” Jacob finished jalking.
“Oh! Are you apologizing to me? Look at your attitude, do you look like you’re apologizing? Arrogant! So arrogant!” Hayden wasn’t buying it. His eyes were piercing as he coldly retorted.
Jacob felt helpless dealing with this stubborn Hayden, not because he couldn’t get angry, but because he knew Hayden was bottling up his anger at the moment!
All because of Aurelia’s matter!
Speaking of which, Jacob had indeed acted a little unscrupulously in regard to Aurelia because he had been trying to snatch
her away.
It was all because it was Hayden. Jacob had a solid relationship with him. If it were any other heir of rich political families, the situation wouldn’t have unfolded this way.
Therefore, Jacob had to allow Hayden to vent his anger, and give him a chance to let out all the frustration. It would be even better if everything could be laid out on the table and discussed thoroughly.
Chapter 88
Based on these reasons, Jacob deliberately made himself an easy target for Hayden’s scolding, intentionally acting pitiful and submissive.
He let Hayden scold and insult him without getting angry. “Yes, yes, my attitude wasn’t sincere enough! I will reflect on it; 1 was wrong! Please be a great person and overlook my mistake. Let’s forget about it, as there won’t be a next time!” Jacob
said
Hayden looked at him with a piercing gaze and asked, “Is that all?”
Jacob nodded slightly, shrinking his neck as he replied simply, “Yes, that’s all!”
Hayden, upon realizing that Jacob considered this his apologetic reflection, inwardly cursed, “Damn it, he’s really cunning!”
Knowing what Hayden wanted to hear and what he wanted him to say, Jacob deliberately avoided the topic, waiting for Hayden to bring it up himself.
Hayden was furious, but he had to admit that Jacob was more shameless than him.
Jacob could play dumb and act clueless, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t let Jacob just fool him and pretend nothing happened regarding Aurelia’s matter.
Hayden slammed the table forcefully. “Jacob! You jerk! Explain to me clearly what’s the deal with Aurelia?”
Jacob sighed heavily once again, his shoulders drooping.
He realized that today, he couldn’t fool his way out anymore.
He originally thought that Hayden would let the matter go because he was so shameless and appeared so dumb, especially considering that it was all too late and the fact that Aurelia had already become his. Although Hayden felt a little uncomfortable, he thought it would pass.
After all, a woman, no matter how important, couldn’t compare to the bond between best friends!
But now, even someone like Hayden, who cared so much about reputation, was getting straight to the point.
It was evident that Hayden had a deep impression of Aurelia, or rather, he held a significant interest in her.
Otherwise, in such a serious setting as the office, Hayden wouldn’t have mentioned Aurelia’s name directly.
This understanding made Jacob feel a different kind of relief and satisfaction. Fortunately, he had the foresight to act first. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have any say in this matter!
“Uh, Aurelia? Hey, I hope you’re not upset because of that matter. I already know that you were going easy on me regarding the bet. Otherwise, how could we be best friends?” Jacob tried to divert the topic.
“Hayden, you’re quite good to me. I really have to thank you! 1-
“Cut the crap! Who told you we’re talking about the bet? Don’t try to deceive me with your empty words. With those petty tricks of yours, do you think you can stand before me now if it weren’t for me going easy on you? Now, talk about Aurelia’s matter! What are you planning to do?” Hayden interrupted him angrily.
“What? What am I planning to do? Well, I really like her! And she is also… Besides, she also agreed to be with me. You know, our social status doesn’t allow us to have control over our own marriages. But aside from the formalities. I’ll give her whatever she wants! So, for now, that’s how it is!” Jacob explained.
“Get lost! You have no shame! Are you lying without batting an eye? With Aurelia’s personality, would she really like you. and be willing to be with you as your mistress?” Hayden questioned.
Hayden continued, “I’ll tell you the truth. When I asked her to be with me that day, she refused without hesitation. Why did she change her attitude with you? Is it because you’re better looking than me, or because you can offer her something that I
can’t?
Jacob remained silent.
Jacob was genuinely shocked that Hayden, a person who valued his reputation so much, mentioned that he had asked. Aurelia to be with him once.
So, upon hearing Hayden’s fiery questions, he was at a loss for words.
“Jacob, aren’t we brothers?”
Suddenly, Hayden smiled slightly, catching Jacob off guard.
Jacob immediately felt a sense of warning and unease. Although he had to maintain a smile on his face, he cautiously
nodded. “Of course!”
“In that case, have I, Hayden, been good enough to you as your best friend?” Oh no! This was a typical “showing grace upfront but plotting behind” situation! “You have! You have! Your kindness toward me goes without saying!” Jacob replied.
Even though Jacob knew Hayden’s intentions, he had to answer.
Moreover, objectively speaking. Hayden had treated him quite well.
On the contrary, at times, his treatment of Hayden had his own political motives and considerations.
“Okay then! Since you still know how to admit that, I can’t say I wasted my friendship on you, Jacob! As for Aurelia, I don’t care how you managed to get her approval. But starting today, don’t bother her anymore!”
