Chapter 89
“What? Hayden. I mean…” Jacob was startled and immediately jumped up. Before he could finish his sentence, Hayden’s eyes turned cold and carried a hint of warning.
His stance caused Jacob to suppress the words of protest that were about to come out.
Jacob had a hunch that if he were to reject the suggestion outright, Hayden would really turn against him.
This kind of tacit understanding did not need words to express. He could see the changing expression in Hayden’s eyes.
Previously, Hayden slammed the table and cursed him. No matter how offensive his words were, they were still best friends, so he could overlook it.
However, if Jacob were to refuse when Hayden put forward a limit and requirement that he considered acceptable, it wouldn’t be a matter of whether Hayden treated him as a best friend, but rather the other way round.
Jacob snatched someone’s partner first, so now, let alone being asked to give up the person directly, even if there was such an insinuation, he couldn’t raise any objections.
What’s more, completely disregarding Hayden’s reputation would be an act of ungratefulness and treachery in every aspect and by any standard.
If Jacob were to stoop to such a level, Hayden would have no reason to still hold him in high regard and treat him with equal respect and friendship.
However…
In fact, sometimes, when one left certain things unargued, it somehow became a form of argumentation.
It seemed to be the case now with the matter concerning Aurelia.
Fortunately, Hayden was a person of integrity after all. As the heir of a rich political family, even if he desired a woman, he hoped to win her heart first through voluntary means before winning her over physically.
Or perhaps, in the process of gradually winning someone over, he would slowly devour her heart until the woman became completely devoted.
However, Jacob was totally different.
He preferred to first snatch the person back and then gradually replace ways to win over her heart. At that time, even if he didn’t win her heart, he still managed to possess the person.
By asking Jacob to agree not to disturb Aurelia starting today, Hayden was actually telling him that if he wanted to eventually become a man who can win over Aurelia, he must be competent enough to make her willing.
He shouldn’t think that using the phrase “you’re already mine” will suffice to confine Aurelia and exclude other competitors..
This request might seem very domineering, but in reality, it was already a concession made by Hayden.
Otherwise, let alone anything else, just the fact that he was the first to be interested in Aurelia and the existing bet between him and Jacob would be enough to forcefully compel the latter to back out of this rivalry.
However, Hayden didn’t think so. The underlying message he conveyed was that both of them should compete based on their abilities.
By then, no matter who failed or quit, it would be a fair result of a competition driven by skills.
On the one hand, one of them would succeed. On the other hand, it would not affect their friendship.
It was indeed a very good, fair outcome that both sides would accept. Strictly speaking, Jacob had gained a huge advantage.
After all, if it came down to using influence to dominate, even if he was the state governor’s son, there was still a distinction. in status compared to Hayden.
As a result, in a time and situation unknown to Aurelia, the two heirs of rich political families she had no interest in secretly devised a plan to win over her affections.
It sounded like Aurelia was somewhat unjust and unlucky as no one sought her opinion before unilaterally deciding that she would undoubtedly belong to one of them.
That showed a lack of respect for human rights and was quite authoritarian
It seemed that she was not treated as an individual at all, but rather as an item that could be freely fought over and exchanged.
However, looking at it from a different perspective, if they truly didn’t respect her and pressured her. Aurelia wouldn’t dare to disobey any of them.
Now, because of Hayden’s pressure, Jacob had to give up one of his major advantages, which was using power to overpower others. He left with no alternative but to rely on his own personality or other strengths, just like many other men who

pursue women, to charm them and captivate their hearts.
It had to be said that for the heirs of rich political families who could attract countless women without making any effort, they would have absolutely no advantage at all.
It was possible that they were not as skilled as the students in the university.
This clearly showed that for both Jacob and Hayden, if they solely relied on their personal charisma to win the affection of a mature woman like Aurelia, it would be a rough journey that required great perseverance.
If so, they might as well compete in terms of who could solve more of Aurelia’s troubles and problems.
In this way, it would inevitably create an intriguing and beneficial situation for Aurelia where both men attempted to win
her favor.
Instead, she had gone from a passive role to the one who got to decide!
Previously, they were pressuring her, but now she was the one choosing them. As long as she didn’t make a decision, both men would have to continue their “quest.”
It was evident that being in a disadvantaged position meant nothing. What truly mattered was having a favorable situation. When the situation was favorable, anything became achievable!
“Aurelia is really benefiting from this!” Jacob had agreed with Hayden’s proposal, but he couldn’t help but express his discontent.
Both of them were smart people. In fact, when Hayden made this demand, Jacob already knew what the subsequent situation would turn into.
“Forget it. I can take this opportunity as a man to pamper my woman a bit more,” Jacob thought to himself.
Hayden said, “Jacob, let’s not act as if we’re at a disadvantage here. In my opinion, Aurelia has quite a character. She just doesn’t know that we have made this agreement. If she were to replace out, she might even look down on us.”
Although Hayden and Aurelia had only met once, and they didn’t communicate much, he still accurately pointed out Aurelia’s arrogance.
If she really found out, she would really look down on them.
However, Aurelia was different from ordinary women. Otherwise, people like Hayden and Jacob wouldn’t be so interested in
her.
After all, there were plenty of women in this world.
Jacob said, “We must make sure she doesn’t replace out then. Things are already slipping away from our hands. If she knows, the difficulty level will probably escalate to another level, and in the end, we might not even have a chance. If another random. knight in shining armor emerges, we’ll have nowhere to turn but tears.”
Not to mention, Jacob might not excel in other areas, but his words were always accurate. It wouldn’t be a surprise if another formidable opponent unexpectedly emerged.
At the moment, neither of them expected it, especially Hayden. After hearing those words, he even casually curled his lip with a cold expression. “Who dares? This time, it’s only you. Otherwise…”
The implication behind those words was filled with an intimidating aura of violence.
