The Failed Rejection -
Chapter 38
Braxton pov
When they touched down in Chicago Braxton and his brothers were greeted by a man named Seth. Braxton could tell by his aura that he was a Beta.
“Hello Alpha, I’m Seth and I’m here to get you to where you are going.” Braxton simply nodded knowing that the wolf was being vague giving that the airport was swarming with humans.
“Do you have everything?” The wolf asked, and he simply nodded since they took a private jet. Brax also made sure his brothers only had one bag, and one bag for the mission at hand.
“Follow me.” They all quickly walked out of the airport towards two large SUV’s where they loaded up their stuff. The brothers had a quick argument about how to divide up in the vehicles as they had their entire life’s. The smallest of his brothers was Cam at six foot two inches, and he was built like a brick s**t house. Bear shifter were notoriously massive, especially compared to other shifters. So anytime we went somewhere as a family with six kids we went in two vehicles.
“That’s enough! Since you want to act like kids I will treat you as such. We will do it like we did when we were kids.” His brothers g*****d. Denali, Cam, and Knox went into one vehicle while Dash and himself got into the second vehicle with the wolf that greeted them.
His second youngest brother was the quite one of the brood. Dash was shy and sensitive, without his parents having to tell him Brax always looked out for his brother.
“All right alpha we have a bit of a drive ahead of us, so get comfortable.”
It turns out the drive was three hours, but Brax had a lot to do for the upcoming auction so the drive didn’t bother him.
They drove up to the packhouse and noticed the similarities between the wolves pack and his own.
“We will get your bags,” one warrior said as they got out. Braxton nodded but grabbed his bag of important documents as he didn’t want that to get lost. Braxton and his brothers followed the wolf into the packhouse into the third floor. The wolf walked right in where there were several wolves sitting in a nice old-school office. Alpha Killian who he had met before was sitting behind the desk stood up once we had entered the room. It was a gesture of respect Braxton appreciated.
“Nice to see you again Alpha Braxton,” Alpha Killian walked over to him and shook his hand.
“You as well Alpha Killian. These are my brothers; Denali, Cam, Dash, Knox, and my last brother is at home taking care of the pack.”
“Nice to meet you. You met my beta Seth, this is Jackson my former Delta.” Alpha introduced, and he recognized the name.
“Penelope‘s father?” Braxton asked.
“She mentioned me?” Jackson asked and Brax nodded his head.
“Well he’s their adoptive father. We can discuss it another time.” Killian dismissed the issue. Brax nodded his head and the introductions continued.
“This is Holden my gamma, my father Liam. Alpha Axel was supposed to be here.” Just then the door opened to squealing laughter. Braxton turned his head to see Alpha Axel playing with a boy around the age of nine or ten.
“Axel you were supposed to be here an hour ago,” Killian said exasperated. Axel laughed,
“Had to check on my little buddy, not to mention my savior.” Killian let out a growl,
“Lili is on bed rest. You should leave her alone. Not to mention you have a mate of your own!” The air was filled with tension at that last comment, and Brax wasn’t sure how to diffuse it. It was the small boy who took care of it. The little boy examined all five of his brothers closely.
“Daddy, they are all special bears.” Braxton knelt down, he could tell by his aura that he was the next alpha, so that made him Penelope’s nephew.
“How can you tell that little man?” He asked.
“Cause I’m special too. So is mommy and daddy,” the boy continued to tell him. Braxton was intrigued but the young alpha was pulled away.
“Come on Callum, let’s go see your sister,” Jackson told the boy as he walked out of the office.
Braxton was going to ask about the boy but Killian put up his hand,
“I’m sorry, but only family gets to know about my son.” Braxton didn’t push any further they just got down to work. They only had four days to get ready for the auction.
“Okay, what do we know?” Killian asked sitting down behind the desk.
“Sadly not much. It’s a group of wolves-“
“Rogues? Or pack?” Seth asked. Braxton shrugged his shoulders.
“I’m not sure. All I know is they have been going to these auctions looking for muscle of all kinds looking to start another war. I need to stop them both. The auctions as well as these wolves,” Braxton said with conviction. Killian nodded,
“We will, just be prepared it may take some time.”
“We need it done now!” Cam growled out. Without warning alpha Killian let out his aura and the strength almost made him want to submit to it.
“Don’t talk to me like that cub! Not in my own territory. You came to me for help, if you don’t want it you are free to leave!”
“Apologize,” He demanded of his brother in the mindlink.
“I’m sorry Alpha Killian. My brother has lost so much to these damn wolves. His mate and his cub,” Cam managed to get out under the weight of the alpha aura. When Cam told the room that Brax had lost his little family, he wanted to strangle him. Killian however instantly pulled back his aura.
“I’m sorry for what you’ve been through Alpha. My wolf is on edge, my mate is dealing with a very rough pregnancy right now.”
“Understandable.” Braxton took a breath. “I know they normally set up behind shifter clubs as cover for the comings and goings of people.” Braxton got right back to business, he didn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him.
“Are the people being sold on location?” Holden asked. Braxton shook his head,
“I don’t think so, unless they changed it they had a video feed of the people being sold. I’m assuming it was because they were off-site. I tried tracking them down, but I was made and taken out before I found out anything else.” Killian nodded, and sat there for a few minutes. Knox started to say something, but Braxton held him off. Finally the alpha spoke up.
“Okay, Braxton you and your brothers are going to go with five of my warriors to Boston tonight.” Killian told him and he nodded. “I called the council, hopefully Brad will be able to make it to the auction with a squad to take them out, but they didn’t give me any promised. Neither Brad or the counsel would, so we can’t rely on them.” Killian let some of his aura slip so he was definitely fighting his anger about the council on this issue.
“Axel has to go back to his pack, and I have to wait until Nathan gets here before I can leave my family.”
“Whose Nathan?” Braxton asked.
“My other mate,” a woman said from the door. Killian jumped up and ran to his Luna.
“Liliana, you are not supposed to be out of bed!”
“Well I just had to meet our guests, especially this one,” Liliana smiled up at him. It wasn’t by any means a flirtatious smile, it was a sisterly smile. One that went right to his chest, and warmed him up. Lili, Penelope’s sister was welcoming him to the family.
“You two look so much alike,” he whispered. Lili smiled even brighter,
“That is the best compliment I could ever receive. Thank you.” Killian sighed,
“Why don’t you escort my mate back up to the Alpha suite Alpha Braxton?” Killian asked him.
“Oh don’t mind him, he’s just worried because of the twins,” Lili said nonchalantly.
“Twins?”
“Yeah, one wolf and one hybrid.” Braxton was shocked, he never heard of a hybrid before.
“Aren’t you worried?” Lili smiled,
“A little. But I know in my heart that the moon goddess is watching over us. She has a plan for me and my children.” Liliana rubbed her belly, and then looked at him in the eye.
“I wish I had your faith, your sisters faith,” Braxton muttered when they made their way to the alpha floor.
“Can I tell you a secret you won’t tell anyone else?” Lili asked. Braxton nodded,
“Penelope wouldn’t have told you this as it wasn’t her story to tell. But it’s easy to have faith in the moon goddess when you have met her.” Braxton’s jaw dropped,
“You can’t be serious.” Lili nodded,
“I have twice now. I’ve never told anyone outside the family…” Lili broke off and gave him an odd look. “Something tells me you are going to be in our life’s for a long time. My wolf feels comfortable around you.” Braxton tried not to get his hopes up, but generally siblings could feel a kinships with their mates. A sibling kinship.
“It was nice to meet you before I had to leave, I don’t know if I will ever return,” Braxton said diplomatically. Lili simply smiled,
“I will see you when this is all over Alpha Braxton,” Lili told him and walked away.
.
It wasn’t until they were back on the plane flying out to Boston that the brothers were finally able to talk about what happened at the Midnight Howlers Pack.
“That Alpha is a d**k,” his brother Cam said.
“Your just pissed cause this is the first Alpha that can make you submit,” Denali laughed at his brother. The brothers all laughed at Cam’s predicament.
“What do you think Dash?” Braxton asked his quite brother.
“I think he is a damn fine alpha. Helping random shifters because of his sister-in-law. We should be thankful,” Dash told his brothers. As always Dash could get to the heart of the matter.
“I also think the family is special. Especially the son.”
“What do you mean?” Denali asked. Dash looked out the plane window in silence for a few minutes.
“When he studied all of us, my bear he reacted like I’ve never felt before. If I didn’t know better I would have thought he was my mate. But that wasn’t it. It was like my bear was telling me this child is special, and that I have to protect him.”
“That’s crazy,” Cam said dismissively. Braxton was pissed at that. Brax went over and punched his brother in the face.
“Don’t talk about our brother like that!” Brax went to go sit by his brother and lowly talked to his brother. “You are not crazy, and I don’t think he’s your mate. I think he is special. When this is over we will go back and talk to them and replace out why you bear reacted that way okay?” Braxton soothed his brother. Dash calmed down,
“Look. It’s Boston.” Braxton looked out and saw the Boston skyline come into the distance.
“It’s time to end this Dash. It’s time for peace.”
