Braxton pov

He returned from the address given to him by the rogue and found out that it was just a dead end. There hadn’t been anyone at that address for at least two weeks from what Brax could tell by the lingering smell. Brax kicked the door in frustration and it went flying off the handle. Denali looked at him with disappointment.

“Don’t say it,” he growled out. Denali sighed heavily,

“This is what happens when you listen to a junkie instead of your mate.” Braxton chuffed in anger and walked out of the room. Goddess he was an a*s and he had no idea what to do, that i***t junkie rogue was his only lead.

“Look I get I was skeptical at first since she was a wolf, but her family is amazing. That woman is everything she says she is and the first time you two have a disagreement you say she’s not your real mate. What the hell is wrong with you big brother?” Braxton listens to his younger brother and beta’s words.

“But Mariana-“ Braxton tries to defend and Denali cuts him off.

“Look it’s time I say it. Mariana wasn’t the best mate that you remember her to be Brax,” his brother told him and Brax tried to take a swing at him. Denali blocked him and pushed him back.

“It’s true,” Alanna said from behind Denali. “She was power hungry and there were rumors she was working with rogues right before she died as well as Alpha Thorn.”

“No! That’s not possible! I would have know!” Braxton yelled out.

“We tried telling you over and over Braxton, that’s why we didn’t support you after she died,” Denali stated gently.

“No you all thought I was crazy!” Braxton screamed out and started pacing the crappy little apartment he was sent to. Denali shook his head,

“No we didn’t.”

“Then why are you supporting me now?” He asked savagely his bear close to the surface. His bear loved his mate and cub fiercely, just as he loved Penelope.

“You have stumbled upon something real! We thought you were just lost in your grief!” Denali said vehemently. “This is very real! Something very important, we thought it was just contained in Alaska, but these rogues are all over the world stealing our cubs.” Braxton nodded and looked around and then after few minutes finally asked,

“Mari was involved with rogues?”

“Yeah, we think it was only recently.” Denali shrugged his shoulders, “we can’t be too sure though.” Braxton tried to search his memory, but with his amnesia certain things were still hazy. Brad could remember growing up together with Mari as well as his first years being mated to her. However, the last years of his life are like living in a fog. Braxton still wanted to believe the best in the mate he lost.

“Maybe they were threatening her and she had no choice.” Denali didn’t look convinced, but Alana nodded once.

“Yeah alpha, maybe she f****d she was acting very out of character.” The three of them stood there awkwardly for several minutes before Denali finally broke the silence,

“Well let’s return back to the apartment where you can apologize to your mate on bended knee.” Alana laughed,

“I can’t wait to see this!”

“I can’t wait to see this!”

Braxton shrugged off the comment and the three of them returned to Penelope’s apartment via only to replace it empty. Braxton shrugged it off and simply told them that she must be at class. Denali degreed there is no rest for the wicked and they needed to get back to work.

They started from the beginning and decided not to leave anything out. It was several hours later and they still hadn’t found anything. Braxton figured that it had to do more with the fact that he was looking at the door every thirty seconds instead of the payroll records in his hands. Brax finally broke down and started to text Penelope.

“Hey D look at this,” Alana said and Brax ignored her as she said it every five minutes thinking she found something. Braxton loved his sister-in-law but she wasn’t the brightest bulb of the bunch. He checked his phone for the fiftieth time and there was no phone calls or texts from Penelope. It was seven, did she have her study group tonight?

“Hey Brax look at this!” Denali said shoving a paper right in his face.

“What is it?” Brax asked confused.

“Proof that the owner was in on it and has been for awhile.” Brax looked at the paper and it was indeed just what they needed to go question the club owner.

Brad pov

Brad was down in the packhouses new armory looking over the new weapons. It was very impressive, Killian managed to get ahold of some high quality weapons in a short amount of time.

Honestly Brad had never been happier in his life, he had his mate, his wolf, and his pack. Speaking of his mate, she walked up to him and signed,

‘What you doing here?’ Brad smiled and signed as he talked,

“Just checking on the packs progress. What are you doing here?” His mate signed a rapid series of signs that he didn’t understand, he laughed.

“Slow down, I’m still just a beginner.” Violet smiled,

“I forgot. It amazes me, have you sign with me.” Brad smiled and said,

“I want to make you happy.” Violet smiled and leaned in to give him a k**s on the lips. The k**s was amazing, the sparks were everything he thought to imagine in a mate bond. Unfortunately the k**s was cut short when the door opened and the two of them sprang apart.

Callum entered the room looking upset and Brad squatted down to his level.

“What’s wrong little man?”

“Mom and dad are fighting about me,” Callum said looking upset. Brad knew this was about the incident the other day with the alphas. Brad looked to his mate and quickly signed.

‘You watch nephew?’ Violet nodded with a smile on her face that took his breath away. Callum smiled,

“What did you say with your hands?” Brad smiled,

“I asked my mate if she would watch you while I go talk with your parents.” Callum got excited,

“Oh I want to learn! Teach me!” Brad smiled,

“I can’t right now, but Violet can.” Callum went running to his mate and his wolf purred in contentment seeing his mate with a pup.

“Soon it will be our own pup,” his wolf rumbled. Brad watched as Violet walked hand in hand with Callum out of the room as the armory wasn’t the safest room for a pup, even the future king.

Brad quickly found Liliana in the alpha quarters screaming at both Killian and Nathan.

Brad quickly found Liliana in the alpha quarters screaming at both Killian and Nathan.

“How could you do that? How could you announce that the next king was born!?” Lili was shouting at the top of her lungs despite being pregnant and the two powerful alphas were on the opposite couch’s with their heads lowered.

“No one knows that it is our son,” Killian said weakly.

“Don’t be stupid Killian! The support of Elder Brooks and your aura which is all being borrowed from your son even that imbecile Alpha Thomas could have guessed!”

“Please don’t yell, it’s not good for the babies,” Nathan pleaded. Lili turned to Nathan and screamed,

“Where were you when all of this was happening?” Nathan backed up and started stuttering,

“Uh, I-I-I.”

Brad had never seen Lili so angry.

“Her wolf Tula is furious,” his wolf told him. Brad didn’t know if he should intervene or not, but he walked in and made his presence known.

“Get out Brad!” He was yelled out by multiple voices.

“I just thought you should know that you son knows you are fighting,” Brad said as he left the room. Brad heard, “this is all your fault,” before he exited the alpha floor.

Penelope pov

In the library Penelope was surrounded by books, she didn’t plan on pulling an all-nighter tonight. Penelope’s original plan was to make a huge pan of lasagna and then have a few rounds of s*x with her mate. However, when she got to class Penelope realized that she had several tests coming right around the corner. She had never been so unprepared for anything in her academic life.

Penelope loved her mate and wanted to support him, but she couldn’t let his obsession take the focus away from her dreams. The situation was bigger than that of course with the issues of the pack, the auction, and all the displaced people. Lili still managed to text her to wish her good luck on her upcoming midterms an hour ago. She also apologized for not being supportive enough with the end of this pregnancy. Lili was due to give birth to her pups literally any day now and she was still thinking about her.

This was her dream for as long as she can remember and Penelope wasn’t going to loose sight of it for anyone. Not even her mate, today was a reality check that she needed. Penelope looked at her phone as it buzzed and saw it was from her mate.

LB: hey where are you?

LB: look I’m sorry

LB: please come back to the apartment.

LB: let me know you are ok, please

LB: we found a lead and are going to follow up on it.

Penelope saw all the texts and finally decided to respond with a quick message telling her mate that she was pulling an all nighter at the library and she wouldn’t be responding any further. School had to be her main focus as it had been for the past six years, she wasn’t going to let her mate ruin all of her hard work.
