The Fall Ball
Chapter 20

(Rose)

Great. Not only do I have a bodyguard. He is also my roommate. This is going to be a very long week.

We both settle into the car. And the driver takes off. We have about two hours, until we are at the palace. I decide that even though I am not tired, I’m about to sleep. Just so I can avoid Craig.

I lean over and put my head on the window and pull my feet up under me. Craig laughs at me.

I turn and look at him. “Something funny?”

I hear him say, “You curled up like a cat to take a nap.”

“l am not a cat,” I say. And I place my head back on the window and close my eyes.

It doesn’t take long for me to fall asleep. For once, I dream of something other than the void.

I am in a field of flowers. It is sunny out and only a few fluffy clouds in the sky. It is gorgeous and smells amazing. Wildflowers are my favorite.

They are so beautiful and fragrant.

I take my time walking through the flowers. I lean down to smell them. Amazing, I think to myself. I keep walking to the middle of the field and decide that I am going to just sit down and enjoy the view. I look around me.

I can hear the bees buzzing around. I see butterflies of all colors. The blue ones are my favorite, they’re so beautiful. How freeing would it be to just be a butterfly, floating along the breeze.

I can hear birds chirping. Then on the ground in front of me, I see a blue bird land. It just sits there watching me. And then it flies away. I smile to myself.

Then I hear something new. It’s that strange sound again. Craig calls it a calling. So somewhere here is a wolf that is content and happy. A wolf, like me, that replaces the joy and beauty around us relaxing.

I stay in my place, as I don’t want to face the unknown wolf. They can smell me l am sure and if they want my company they will come to me.

Although I know this is a dream and don’t know what kind of wolf I would dream of.

I let it slide and just continue to enjoy my time here. I know soon I am going to be woken up and placed back into the world of questions and confusion. I cannot wait for the ball to be over so I can leave. I just want to explore and replace myself.

I sit there and just space out while watching the flowers flow in the breeze. I watch all the bees and butterflies go from flower to flower. Then a blue butterfly comes closer to me. l just sit still and observe it.

It comes close enough to me and then it shocks me. It lands on my foot that is stretched out in front of me. I watch as its wings open and close.

They say a butterfly landing on you is considered good luck, and that you are a pure person.

I laugh at that thought. I don’t have any luck.

Things just seem to be getting more challenging for me. Pure person? That is possible I guess, but who knows.

I watch the butterfly. It flies off my foot and away from me. I watch as it goes on its way. Then I am shocked to see what comes out of the space where the butterfly just flew.

A very large black wolf. It has dark gray patches along its back. And a white spot on his snout. ‘m positive I have never seen this wolf bęfore.

The wolf walks towards me and I stand still. I am not afraid of it, just confused as to why it is here. A normal wolf would be trying to attack me or run from me. So that tells me that this is a werewolf, so it also has a human side.

The wolf comes and stands in front of me. I notice that it is a he. And he is a beautiful creature.

His coloring is unique and he has blue eyes. He stands rather tall, and has a large build. I believe this to be an alpha wolf.

He is just watching me, so I sit back down. He huffs and lies down next to me. Even lying down, he is massive. He moves closer to me, then he surprises me.

He places his large head in my lap. I watch him in confusion.

“Do you want me to pet you?” l ask him.

He nods his head. Then sets it back down.

I place my hand on his head. And I gasp. It felt like I was shocked. A few tingly waves travel up my hand and arm. He starts to make the “calling” sound again. And his tail taps the ground with happiness.

l am in total shock at the feelings I am having.

What is this? Why is this happening? Why do I feel so calm and happy at the same time as confusion?

Why did my touch make him so happy?

I don’t have a wolf. I should not feel this. These are the signs of replaceing our mate. It is so uncommon to have a wolf and human match.

I look down at the wolf in my lap. His eyes are closed. My vision starts to fade. Great I am waking up.

“Rose, it is time to get up. You have had enough beauty sleep.” I hear Craig.

I hear a voice deep within me as l open my eyes.

“Mate, we have a mate.” It says.
