Erick POV

Shawn sits with Kate, trying to link to her mind. This mind link thing still seems odd to all of us. I have tried to learn more about it over the last few months. Shawn has explained to context to me numerous times. I guess since my wolves are unable to do this, it just seems odd to me. I do not care what he does as long as he can verify she is okay. Cassie returns from taking the pack doctor home. She comes into the bedroom and sits down beside me. "She will be fine, Erick," Cassie says.

She pats my leg and smiles at me. "I know she has to be fine. I just got her back," I say.

Shawn is sitting so still with his eyes closed, and he seems to be in a deep state of rest himself. I wish he could tell us what is going on inside her head. I have no patience when it comes to anything going wrong with Kate. I want her life to be peaceful. I need her to wake up and tell me she is okay. I need to hear the words cross her sweet lips.

"Alpha, calm down; Shawn will get through to her. He has done it before; he can do it again," Cassie says to me.

"Yeah, I know, but it does not stop me from worrying about her," I say.

"I am going to check on Austin. I will be back up to see what is going on with her after I have him settled," Cassie says.

Cassie leaves and goes to tend to Austin. Austin is lucky we have her to help with him. I would be lost without her help.

Shawn breaks his mind link with Kate and shakes his head. He seems a little confused for a moment. Then he turns and looks at me. It is almost as if he is trying to get his bearings back after being linked to her.

"Shawn, are you alright?" I ask him.

Shawn gets up from beside Kate and comes over to me. He sits down beside me. "She is fine. The baby is protecting her. I know it is odd, but the baby is fearful of her new surroundings. I saw Rainwater. Rainwater is trying to convince the baby to let Kate out of the coma. There is nothing really wrong, and just your child is holding Kate hostage until the baby is sure Kate is safe," Shawn says.

"Our baby has that kind of power?" I ask Shawn.

"That child has a lot of juice. The baby is trying to protect Kate, and that child is not trusting someone around Kate, but I have no idea who it is," Shawn says.

"So, we need to make our circle smaller immediately," I say to Shawn.

"That would be advisable. I would keep everyone you do not need here away from her for now, and maybe your baby will let her wake up. My advice would be to let Cassie and yourself care for her only. I can come to check in on her for now, see if that calms the baby," Shawn says.

"Do you think there is a threat to her?" I ask.

"The baby feels a threat, and then there might be one close by that we do not know about right now. Do you trust everyone that is in the house?" Shawn asks.

"Thanks, Shawn," I say.

Shawn leaves the room, leaving me alone with Kate. I move to the bed and hold her hand. I touch her baby bump, and the baby moves as I place my hand on Kate. "Well, I guess you trust me with your mother," I say.

Cassie comes back into the room. "Austin is with his nanny; how is she?" Cassie asks.

"Well, according to Shawn, this baby is holding her hostage. The baby is trying to protect Kate. Come here and touch her belly. Let's see if the little one trusts you," I say to Cassie.

Cassie touches her baby bump, and the baby moves. "Well, looks like I am on the invited list," Cassie says.

"We have to get Trip, Meagan and their son moved home today. Tell them that Kate is sick and we are unsure what is wrong. Just tell them we are worried it is contagious, and we do not want to risk their newborn getting sick," I say

"I will take care of it and help them get moved home with their little one, Alpha," Cassie says to me.

"Do that, please, as quickly as possible. I have some things I need to take care of, and I am not leaving here until you return. I am going to keep John for now and Austin's nanny," I say.

"We can let the nanny go if we need to let her go for now. I can take care of Austin," Cassie says.

"Cassie, I know you are superwoman, but you cannot take care of Austin, Kate, the house, and yourself. There is no way you can do it all," I say to her.

"If we keep John around, he can help me with Austin and some other things in the house," Cassie says.

"John can help with Austin if we decide to let the nanny go. Andrew can help both of us if we need him to help. We will figure this out," I say to her.

"I will get Trip and Meagan moved. I will be back. I can tell Andrew to handle your appointments," Cassie says.

"I cleared my schedule for the next few days, but if anything urgent comes up today, I need Andrew to handle it," I say.

"Yes, Alpha," Cassie says.

She leaves the bedroom and goes to relocate Trip and his family. I hold Kate's hand as she sleeps so peacefully.

"You can let your mommy wake up, little one. I promise not to let anything bad happen to her. I guess you cannot trust that since I let something bad happen before. It will never happen again. Please, little one let her awake," I say to Kate and the baby. I kiss her softly on the lips and watch her sleep.
