Cassie POV

heartbreaking.

Kate has been out for almost three days. We have cut the staff in the house down to practically no one. The only people allowed to check in on her are me, Alpha Erick, the pack doctor, and Shawn. Alpha Erick begs the baby to let Kate wake up, and it is Shawn has connected with her once more and assure Erick she is okay. I know that offers him some comfort, but he wants to hear it from her in reality. Andrew and John have taken over many the pack business which I know Alpha Erick is grateful to have them. It is heartbreaking to watch all of this.

Alpha Erick has suffered without her for months, and now he has to watch her sleep. At least she is here with us and not with Macon. That in itself is comforting. Although the fear of Macon possibly taking his vampire form and coming for Kate and the baby weighs heavy on everyone's mind. I know Alpha Erick is distraught, but he tries so hard to put up a good show for the pack and the wolves.

Alpha Erick comes down into the kitchen to see Austin and me. He talks to Austin for a while, and I cook breakfast. Andrew comes in for the day to feed Austin while I go up the stairs to bathe Kate and check on her.

I go into the bedroom with Kate. She is sleeping and peaceful. I brush her hair for her and watch her baby bump move as I care for her. "It would be nice if you would just tell us who the threat is so we can do something about it. Your mother is completely defenseless, little one," I speak softly.

I begin to sing as I get warm water to bathe Kate and change her clothes. Erick tried at this yesterday and was a nervous wreck. I told him it was no problem for me to tend to her. I love Kate like a sister. She is unique to all of us, and I only want the best for her and the little one.

I continue humming as I bathe Kate in warm water gently. I notice some strange bruising on her around her baby bump. It is almost like the baby had been struggling and fighting from the inside of her. Who has been close to her?

I finish bathing her and slip a clean nightgown onto her body. I prop her up and check her IV. I look at it closely. This IV should only be a bag of liquids to keep her hydrated. The liquid in the bag seems odd to me.

"Alpha Erick!" I scream as I exam the bag. Alpha Erick comes running up the stairs to Kate and me.

"What is wrong?" He says, looking flustered and upset. The man has not slept and is obviously in need of some good news.

"We got to get this IV out of her, but I did not want to take it out without talking to you first," I say to Erick.

"Take it out if you think it is part of the problem," Erick says.

I gently take the IV out of Kate's hand. "I think I know who the problem is with the baby, but Kate went into the coma before she saw him," I say.

"Who?" Alpha Erick asks.

"I think the pack doctor is part of the problem. Look at her belly. It looks like the baby has bruised her. I don't understand what happened the day she fainted, and then we got rid of everyone in the house. She should have woke up. The pack doctor is still coming around. Don't let him come back; tell him we are moving Kate, tell him whatever you like, but keep him away from her and let us see what happens," I say.

"What about Shawn?" Alpha Erick asks me.

"I do not think Shawn would ever hurt her or any of us for that matter. Alpha Erick get in touch with Alexander. Reach out and tell him what is going on with his daughter. Maybe he can help," I say to Alpha Erick.

"You know how I feel about Alexander, but for Kate, I will do it. I will send John to bring him. I do not want to give him an excuse to say No," Alpha Erick says.

"I will stay with her; just go do what you need to do. I promise she will be fine. I have some ice chips I can feed her to keep her hydrated," I say to Alpha Erick.

Alpha Erick goes down the stairs to send John to retrieve Alexander. I know getting Alexander here will not be an easy task for anyone, but I believe John can handle Alexander. I am curious what the pack doctor put in the IV. There has to be a sleeping agent in it, but

why give her a sleeping agent when the baby is holding her in a coma, and why did the baby not keep her in a coma when she was with Macon. Nothing about this makes any sense.

I hear a commotion down the stairs. I get up and lock the door, locking Kate and me in the master bedroom. I hope there is nothing serious going on down there. After a few minutes, there is a pounding on the door.

"Cassie, let me in the room," Alpha Erick calls from behind the door.

I go to the door and open it. "What the hell is going on down there?" I ask.

"The pack doctor came by to see Kate, he is no longer with the pack and on his way out of the territory in a bag," Alpha Erick says calmly, which scares the hell out of me.

"What happened?" I ask.

"John asked him, and he stuttered over what he had done. John killed him," Alpha Erick says.

"We needed to know why he was doing it," I say to Alpha Erick.

"I know, but it is too late now," Alpha Erick says.

"I am going with John to retrieve Alexander. John is hot-headed and upset about Kate, and I think I should go with him," Alpha Erick says.

"Yeah, two hot-headed wolves going into Seanet, vampire country is absolutely an ideal situation. Send Trip with him," I say.

"Trip just had a baby," Alpha Erick says.

"You are the Alpha, take charge and send him," I say.

"I know what I am and what needs to be done for Kate and the baby," Alpha Erick barks back at me.

"I am sorry, Alpha. I am only worried for Kate, and I need you close by when she wakes up. I think you should send Trip," I say.

Erick ponders this for a moment. "I think you are right," Alpha Erick says.

He leaves to make arrangements to send Trip with John.
