The Innocent Wife of Scheming President -
Chapter 45: You Are Mine
Olive bit her lip as she got into the tent. She heard him chuckle. Sheglared at him. Smiling, when you smile enough, you should be carefulnot to laugh off your chin. Olive thought these in her mind.
There was not much room, and though they sat at opposite ends, theycould easily touch each other by stretching their arms or legs.
Alan pulled out two large white plastic bags, “stop staring at me. Youreyes seem to be falling off. Let's get something to eat. You should behungry.”
Olive opened the plastic bag and peeked inside. Oh, there were snacks, cooked food, drinks, water, even wine and candles. The cups were alsovery complete.
I didn't know if it was him who ordered it, or if it was the people whowere reading his mind and trying to flatter him. Most likely, thosepeople had assumed that either the boss was trying to sleep with her orshe was trying to seduce the boss.
The human heart was indeed the most evil.
Olive ignored everything. She was already hungry. Only when she havehad enough to eat and drink could she have the strength to stare athim. She didn't want to ask him why he didn't ask people to put up anextra tent. It was a waste of saliva anyway. She just said, “you deserve tobe the boss. You get whatever you want.”
“I ask people to do things, I pay them, and I enjoy the fruits, what'swrong with that?”
“So being a boss is awesome.”
Alan's face darkened slightly, “but there's a saying that It's lonely at thetop.”
If no one could share the joy of success with you, and no one couldunderstand you, then loneliness and solitude would always be with you.Olive saw the tired look in his eyes, knowing that he must have lived avery hard life over the years. She felt sorry for him, but she dared notshow it, “Alan, it's a lot easier said than done. At your command, someone will take care of everything for you. You're not like us. We goaround trying to make a living. We have to watch other people's facesand be cautious. If we suffer, we can't speak, and a broken tooth canonly be swallowed.”
Alan couldn't miss the irony in her words, “it looks like you have aproblem with me. You think I bullied you?”
Olive thought that he was the self-knowledge on her mind. On the face, she was smirking, “you're my boss, I dared not think so.”
“But I don't think you've ever treated me like a boss.” Alan sat idly onthe floor, raising one leg, placing one arm casually over the leg andwatching her idly.
“Really?” Olive looked wronged, but she was so guilty that shedisguised it by drinking water.
“I think you treated me like an old friend whom you had not seen for along time."
Olive nearly spat out water and she dabbed her lower lip with the backof her hand, “I'd like to. Maybe I could use this to help me to get apromotion, a raise and to get an easy job.”
“Do you really like that?”
“Well, since you transferred me from sales department to PresidentOffice, people spat up to my neck. I don't want to be spat on anddrowned.”
“Are you scared?”
"Gossip is a fearful thing.” Hidden rules were always associated withwomen, especially those who got too close to their bosses. Even if theywere pure in mind and body, their relationship would be consideredambiguous by others.
"But if you are competent, you are not scared of what people say. Youdon't look like a woman who cares what other people think."
He actually quite understood her. She was not concerned about howpeople talk about her behind her back. Mouth was someone else's, andyou can't cover someone else's mouth, so you don't need to mind thatwhat other people say. There were always some gossips and peoplewho said some idle words in the office.
However, she cared about her family. Her power was limited, but shewanted to protect them as possible as she can.
What Alan didn't know was that she had received a text message onher mobile phone with an unknown number last night: stay away fromhim.
It's just four words. It chilled her hands and feet. She felt a pair ofinvisible eyes monitor her, or monitor every move of Alan behind theback.
The distance between her and him was far away like ends of the earth.Olive smiled slightly. She felt bitter in her throat like a duck bone in herthroat. "Alan, you really think highly of me." she said.
"You dare have a drink with me?" Although he seemed to ask her, healready poured out two glasses of red wine by his hand, and then heoffered one glass of red wine to her.
Olive looked at him with hesitation. Who said he was unsmiling. Hisperfect lip, the corners of his mouth were slightly raised. He smiled likea wily fox. He even picked his eyebrow when he looked at her, "huh?"Since he wanted her to drink, she drank. She wouldn't get drunk on thisanyway.
In order to induce her to say who Annie's father was, Chloe set a trapfor her, and they invited her to play the moment of truth. If she didn'tanswer the question, she was punished for drinking. If she was drunk, they could ask her that who Annie's father was. They have tried theirbest. But in the end, she was the only one who wasn't drunk, and noone dared ask that who Annie's father was anymore.
Her good capacity for drinking helped her a lot in her future work. Butit was not so easy for women to work among men.
Although she often said that she didn’t drink, she needed social activity,if she wanted to get business, did business, and got a high commission. It's hard to avoid drinking at parties. When she drank, she had to watchout for the malevolent hands of the men.
In the beginning, Olive couldn't understand that why these men whoalready had wives and children, were so promiscuous behind theirfamilies back. They went whoring and did some dirty things in thename of work.
But as she saw more of these things, she gradually became numb. Mostmen were like that. A man looked like a gentleman, but maybe he's abeast in human attire.
But how disappointed she would have been, if Alan had become one ofthese men.
