Chapter 39

Three vamps jumped Asher after he had taken down two at once and he was caught off guard. I ran and landed on the back on one of them before ripping his head off. Asher had shifted back and ripped the heart out of another before we both faced the third. The other guys had one vamp each in a fight so I looked around to see if there were more. I didn’t see any but I still felt eyes on us.

‘Guys, take the last of these damn b***d suckers down and we need to run to the pack house. I don’t smell anymore but I have a weird feeling the night isn’t over. We need to help protect the pack.’ The guys nodded and took out the last three vamps. Asher shifted back and we ran to the pack house.

‘We are coming in hot. I can feel eyes on us. Is everyone safe?’ I mind linked the beta.

‘Hurry. A few warriors are down and more of the vamps have shown up. ‘ I could feel his terror so I sped up coming around the corner seeing about twenty vampires surrounding the house trying to run past the wolves to get inside. I ran straight toward the fights and started taking down who ever I could. The guys followed suit and soon we were winning. I thought it was going to be over quickly but that was before I heard the whimper of a kid and then another. I looked around and saw three vamps holding onto two of the kids from the pack. ‘Blue hurry. No matter what those kids make it out alive.’ She agreed and we ran straight for the vamps while two others joined them.

I heard the Beta screaming for the kids but couldn’t run to them because he had a vamp on his tail with another getting up from the ground. Asher ran to help him with the second vamp while my other two mates were busy with the what was left of the vampires.

‘I got them. Focus on getting rid of the rest of the vampires and secure the house.’ I linked my mates and the Beta.

‘Please save them! Mason is only six and Trixie is two. This area will be cleared when you return with them. The pack can’t handle any more loss.’ I could hear the misery in his voice. Blue sent a link of comfort and understanding before we focused solely on the dead men in front of us.

They hissed at me as I ran toward them. They started to slow down and we knew they had a plan of attack. Maybe they were going to try to catch me as well but that would never happen. Those fanged jerk offs were about to be dead mean for a second time. I moved faster and aimed for the ankles of the closest vampire. Blue bit down hard enough to break them and he fell still trying to latch his nasty a*s fangs into my skin. We let go and aimed for his throat but he held us off with his arms shoving at our collarbone to keep us back. A second one jumped on our back and was able to bit down on our neck pushing in its venom and taking some of our b***d. Blue instantly felt the pain and heat from the bit. Her body became heavier and more sluggish but we had to push forward. We twisted to the side and rolled over the vamp hard enough for him to let go. We turned and bit down on his neck hard enough to separate it from his body. The one with the broken ankles was trying to stand since his healing was accelerated like ours but I rushed over and took his head as well. The three vamps had started to run faster with the kids but Blue and I were done with the chase. I started to bark at the kids hoping they would understand what I was saying and fight back against the vampires. They needed to get away fast before they made it to the forest and probably witches. That would be an even harder fight but I would do it.

The boy named Mason bites down on vamp and rips at his hair making him stumble giving Blue time to knock him on his a*s. Mason made sure to tuck and roll so he wouldn’t be hurt while I killed that vamp. I was impressed by Mason and his instinct to get away. I ran over to him and shoved him with my snout so he would jump on my back. We lost a few second waiting for him to get a good hold on our fur but we were running out of time with the venom in our system. I growled loud enough that everyone heard it and stopped. My mates started to run toward us but they would never be fast enough. Blue was whispering and whimpering about a power we had but only in human form but I knew that if we shifted all our energy would be gone. Maybe we could learn to harness the power later.

I leaped and shoved one of the last two vampires down into the ground shoving my paw down through his back and into his chest clawing at his heart hard enough for it to come out in pieces. We were covered in b***d but all I saw was one less parasite. I looked up and saw the last vampire staring at me. He made a choice to drop the girl named Trixie and run like a coward. I ran over to her, licked her face so she would feel comforted enough to stop crying, and got her to get on my back with mason who put her in front of him so she wouldn’t fall off.. The kids were more important than the vampire’s death but he had been marked in my mind and in Blue’s. He would die for trying to take kids. I turned back toward the pack house and ran using the last of my energy. We met my mates in the middle which was a blessing in disguise. As soon as the kiddos were off my back and in their arms I shifted back and blacked out. The last thing I saw was Asher catching me before running us all back to get checked over. I felt their pain in between my black outs over what happened to me and if I was going to make it. I knew we would be fine since the venom wasn’t as bad for us as it was for all over wolves.
