The Last Royal Luna -
Chapter 40
I woke up sometime around midnight to my stomach growling fiercily and a overly full bladder. When I try to get up I feel an arm tighten around me before someone sniffing me. From the smell of them it is Andrew and boy does he feel good holding me. Blue whimpered a bit when I moved his arm but before we could get up an arm from in front of us latches on. I look up into the eyes of Asher and he is smiling.
“Where do you think your going? Your never allowed out of our sights again, fire cracker.” He said as he pulled me closer but I put my hand on his chest to stop. If he kept moving me I was going to pee myself.
“Must pee NOW! And then FOOD!” I shoved him back, finally got off the bed, and ran for the nearest bathroom. Thank gosh it only took one door to open to replace it and I rushed it to take care of business. I could hear Asher laughing hard enough to wake up the others. He explained what happened but I ignored them after that. I took care of business, brushed my teeth, washed my hands, and came out. Before I took a second step out of the room I was picked up bridal style by Blake and he nuzzled his head into my throat as he carried me out of the room.
“Are you ok, Blake?” He seemed really stressed and I didn’t like that one bit. Blue and I had forgiven them which made us yearn to finish our bond. I promised her again that when we made it back to our pack that we would be cementing it.
“Please do not do that again. When you passed out I felt my heart stop and apparently I get really short tempered when I am worried.” He can be like that regardless to people but I wasn’t going to bring it up.
“I didn’t plan it. All that mattered was the children. How are they? They have parents here?” I needed to know if they did because if not I was going to check on them right now.
“Mason does but the little girl does not. Her parents died the first night so she is being watched by whoever can at the moment.” He smiled weakly not liking that idea one bit.
“Where is she now?” Blake had carried me to the living room and plopped me on the couch. Andrew ran in and grabbed my feet to massage which felt amazing. Asher walked in with food and a drink which made my stomach growl again but this time loud enough they all heard it and laughed. Traitor stomach.
“She sleeps in the pack nursery at the end of that hallway. Why?” I didn’t know how to answer his question. I just knew I needed to get to her even before I fed my beast of a stomach.
“I have to get her. I feel this urge to protect.” I didn’t even finish explaining. I just got up and walked down the long hallway until I came to the end. I put my ear to the door and heard crying. I knew it was her but no one else was in there. I just chalked it up to everyone was so scared and worried right now they couldn’t focus on too many things right now.
I opened the door and walked in a few feet before stopping. I wanted her to know was there before I sat down. I needed her to feel comfortable and not on the defense. I knocked on the wall and she jumped from underneath the covers.
“It’s ok Trixie. It’s just me , Ryder. Can I sit in that chair next to you?” I held my hands up so she knew I meant no harm and waited for her answer. She shyly nodded and wiped her face with her blanket. I sat down and smiled at her. “I wanted to check on you. I am so sorry for everything you have gone through because of the vampires. Did you want a hug? A drink? A snack?” I hadn’t really been around a bunch of kids but I felt this connection with her.
“I sad, miss Ryder. My mommy and daddy are away visiting the goddess and won’t be coming back. Those bad guys hurt my tummy while they were running and since my mommy left I sleep alone and I scared.” Tears sprang from her eyes and before I knew what I was doing I was pulling her into my lap to hold her tight. I rubbed her back and sang her a lullaby my parents sang to me as a child.
I guess I fell asleep holding her in the rocking chair because when Blake touched my arm to wake me it was daylight. He had the biggest smile on my face looking at both of us and I was eating it up on the inside. I was excited for kids and since he was my mate I want a kid with him. It would have to wait until this war was over but then I was ready to have a few pups.
“I guess I fell asleep here.” I looked down at Trixie and she smiled up at me.
“You held me nighttime? Momma did that when I had bad dreams. I like you.” She nuzzled into me before hopping down and heading to the door. “Miss Ryder, help me potty pwease?”
“Of course, and then breakfast so you grow big and strong!” I tickled her and took her to the bathroom. I sent Blake down to talk to the beta to see what they normally do with Orphans. If they didn’t have anyone adopt I was thinking my parents would love too. They always wanted kids of their own but the danger was too great with me being a royal and I hated that I caused that for them. I will have to call them on the way back and sweet talk them into thinking it was their idea.
We walked into the kitchen to see everyone eating and packing up the last items. I grabbed a donut for Trixie and sent her off to play with the kids so I could talk to Alistair before we left.
“Alistair, can we talk for a minute?” He was standing with a few of his pack members, so I waited until he was done.
“Of course, Alpha. One last meeting of the wolves in my office” He laughed at his joke but I just rolled my eyes. I mind linked my mates to meet us there before sitting down.
“So just a few small things to go over before heading out. First, since my mates are making their way here, is if Blake talked to you about what you do with orphans?” My hands felt a bit sweaty from nerves.
“Normally we ask if a relative wants to take them and if not or if there aren’t any left, we ask if a family wants to. That is usually the case. Sometimes no one does and they just grow up in the pack house with everyone pitching in but I hate doing that. It seems like they get pushed to the back burner with the pack.” He shook his head in regret like there was a story behind it but I wouldn’t pry. I hated it when people did that.
“I heard that Trixie doesn’t have any family left. I don’t know if you’re aware, but I was raised my a couple that were best friends with my parents before they died. My parents entrusted me with them to keep me safe and they did. They are amazing parents and they didn’t have any other kids because of the risk I presented and the secrets they had to keep about me but they always wanted more kids. I think Trixie would be perfect for them. I feel this pull towards her, a sisterly pull, and I need it to work. I thought they were wolves who had lost their wolf, but it turns out my adopted mother is a witch and my dad is a human. Both are on the good side of the war and I think they would love Trixie.” I gave him a huge smile and held my hands together in a prayer. He looked at me for a bit before answering. My guys arrived, closing the door behind them.
“If your parents say that is what they want and IF Trixie likes them after meeting them, that works for me. “ He put his hand out to shake, but I was too excited for that formal bull crap. I ran around his desk and hugged him as hard as I could.
“Oh Thank you! Thank you! I can’t wait to call them so lets get this chit chat started, ya?” I looked at my mates’ confused faces and laughed. “Trixie may be adopted by my parents.”
“I knew you felt something special towards her. That is great.” Blake looked excited for me and the others nodded.
“Ok. So going into the new pack there is already a beta but he is Blake’s father and is aging out soon. You just became beta within the last few years so you would be the perfect fit. I would like you to do a trial fight against any person who wants the position so we pick the best fit. Until the trial happens, I would like you to assist our current beta and the Alpha in training so things can go smoother with the pack mixing and such. What do you think?” I had discussed this a bit with Blake when we were talking outside waiting for an answer from the pack and he agreed.
“That is more than I expected. Thank you. That sounds perfect.” He shook all our hands and the concluded the meeting.
