The Lycan Series
Bullied By The Lycan King Chapter 16

Violet's

POV

Duties at the slave quarters didn't come off as difficult anymore. I now had Sky and Sam on my side of the ring. They made things easier. I was given the easiest of tasks and Sky was always more than happy to help me. As the sun rose that morning, Sky and I made our way to the general room where duties were usually assigned.

"Ah! Violet and Sky, I was just about to reach your names," Sam said with a smile as he noticed us make our way through the crowd of slaves.

I noticed the side glances but I had grown used to them by now. There was nothing they could do aside from stare.

"Good morning Sam," I muttered as we stopped in front of him.

"Good morning to you too." He beamed then returned his eyes to the paper in his hands. "For today, you and Sky will be on house duties. Packing and Ironing!" He said.

His voice hadn't even settled in the area when Ash protested. "That isn't fair Sam! They have been on the same duty for three days now!"

"Yes, it isn't fair!" A slim girl with red hair joined her.

"We are meant to rotate!" Another man exclaimed.

More people joined in and the room erupted as everyone started expressing their displeasure with the tasks they were given while I and Sky got what they referred to as difficult tasks.

"Enough!" Sam yelled and the room went silent again. "You all know she is not allowed into the mansion!" He started looking at their faces one after the other.

"Packing and Ironing are the only duties she can do from here! Will you all prefer she did nothing?"

I could feel the hatred in their eyes as they threw their eyes at me. They were cornered and their frustrations were reflected in their stares.

The tension in the room grew thicker by the minute as Sam glared at them waiting for a response and they kept wishing I could disappear or something.

"I know you all hate me," I suddenly blurted out before I could stop myself. "And trust me, I know many of you wish I could just die..."

Sam raised his brows in concern but I patted him on the shoulder. It was time I defended myself.

"If I could, I would work just like the rest of you. I do not enjoy the special treatment I get here. No, I don't-"

"Why can't you use a mask or something then?" Ash interjected.

"Ashley!" Sky yelled. "Don't you get it? Her parents will get killed, so will she!"

"Who is going to know that she is the lady behind the mask?!" Ash retorted and soft grunts began to rise as people saw the sense in what she said.

"If truly you do not enjoy the special treatment, you wouldn't mind using a mask. You will use it and work!"

"Ash, you do not have the right to decide who does what here!" Sam's voice cut through Ash's comment and the murmurs that were starting to rise.

"I call the shots and I decide who works where!" He yelled, his voice bouncing like thunder against the wall.

Silence filled the room again as everyone looked down at their feet, scared to anger their supervisor.

He was panting heavily, his chest rising and falling as his anger oozed out of him.

"Now, you are all dismissed! Go start working!" He shouted and slowly, they all started dispersing to their designated place of assignment except Sky and me.

We waited behind for everyone to leave until it was just Sam and us.

"Let's go to my office," He said and started heading toward the corridor, then went behind the door ahead of us.

Sky and I followed after him.

When we got to his office, he moved to his seat and propped down with a heavy sigh.

"I should report Ash to the king. She is making my work so much harder!" He hissed.

Sky's cool demeanor immediately changed. "Not everyone is as lucky as Violet. If you report her, she will be killed."

"Why will she be killed?" I blurted because I was also tired of Ash and her constant issues. "It would be best to report her. The warning she will get should put her in check."

Sky and Sam exchanged looks before they turned their eyes to mine.

"What?" I asked, wondering if they considered my scenario too soft a punishment.

"Anyone that gets reported doesn't get a warning. No matter the offense, once you get reported to the king, the punishment is death." Sky explained but the confusion in my face didn't go away. If every crime was punishable by death, why didn't Axel kill me then? Why did he resort to torturing my father? Why not just kill him or kill me?

"But I..." I wanted to voice out my experience but I decided against it at the last minute.

Sky was right, I was just lucky and next time, it might not be like that.

"Never mind. We just have to replace another way then..." I muttered.

Silence suddenly fell among our little group as each of us got lost in our thoughts.

Sky heaved a sigh, interrupting the silence that had spread over the office.

"What are we going to do now?" She asked after a while.

"It is simple. You will keep to the task I assign. I don't care what they say. I am doing my job here and keeping everyone alive..." He was saying but somewhere along the line, I lost him. Ash's words came to me.

It had been a long time already. I was told not to see Axel, which was true but I had to see my parents. And how could I ever do that if I never went to the mansion?

"What about a mask?" I suddenly blurted, causing Sky and Sam to glare at me.

Sam already started shaking his head in the negative but I quickly spoke again with my forefingers hanging in the air.

"I know it's crazy but the King said he didn't want to see my face. If I cover my face and go to the kitchen or the washroom like everyone else, he wouldn't see me. He wouldn't even notice I am there because the king doesn't go to the kitchen area, does he?" "Yes, you are right. He doesn't go. Using a mask can work," Sky said with a smile.

"Yes, you are right. He doesn't go. Using a mask can work," Sky said with a smile.

We now turned to Sam, waiting for his approval but he shook his head.

"That idea is crazy and it's going to get you killed." He spat, placing his palms on the table.

"Sam, come on, it will work. You have nothing to worry about." I protested, trying to convince him.

"No, I have everything to worry about Violet. This is the palace we are talking about. You think he has any restrictions on where he wants to be?"

That was a valid point.

"But I will be with a mask. He wouldn't see my face. So technically he can't kill me," I said with a confident grin on my face.

"Violet," his voice softened and he held my hand, "you don't have to do this because the other slaves are complaining about it. They are just being jealous and ungrateful. I do this for every one of them when I have to. We take breaks and I give them holidays. But they open their mouths and complain about how I assign you to work? That's nonsense!" "Sam, I am not doing this because they complained..." I assured him.

This wasn't entirely true. I was doing this maybe a little because of their complaints but this was more for me to have access to see my parents again.

With his hand still on top of mine, he nodded but I could still see the uncertainty in his voice.

"Have you guys noticed the silence outside?" Sky suddenly asked, causing an eerie tension to fill the room.

I looked around, wondering what she was referring to. I was just about to tell her she was imagining things when the sound of heavy boots filled the corridor outside and before we knew what was happening, the door burst open.

A soldier stepped in, holding the door down and a tall frame stepped in his eyes burning into Sam's.

My heart skipped a beat and I made the mistake of turning to see who it was.

"My king," Sam quickly said rushing to his feet while Sky fell to her knees and lowered her head.

It was Axel.

I looked down at once, wishing I could disappear from there. Did this count as showing my face to him? Would he kill me? My heart started pounding as I braced myself for his verdict.

I could feel his hot gaze over me and I dared not raise my head.

"Why the hell is she here?" He growled and my heart shattered.

"I... I was assigned duties to them... My king..." Sam stuttered.

Axel let out a scoff and I heard his heavy boot move across the room closer to where I sat trembling. "Duties are now assigned behind closed doors?"
