chapter 40 The Lycan Alpha

It had been a week since Luca had laid his father to rest and since Lunahad seen him. He had been away from the pack as was tradition. Hehad taken the week to remain in seclusion and do what ever ritual wasnecessary to take over however back at the pack there were whispers ofhis inability to sit on the throne as others wanted to contest.

Luna's abilities continued to grow. Her strength had multiplied, hervision impeccable and her hearing was sooo much better. She had beentraining in the private Gym to keep the pack members from seeingwhat she could do. She didn't trust anyone as there were whispersabout challenging Luca. She was going to be strong enough to supportLuca. She was his mate and that did not only mean that she was onlygood to satisfy him sexually, but she needed to be an equal, a partner.She had missed Luca so much it hurt but she knew that he hadresponsibilities. Those responsibilities she would share when theymarry. She felt that she could take on any member of the pack and theywere strong. If she had to fight to prove her worth, then she would. Shewas the Lycan’s mate and to be queen. She needed to prove hersuperiority if it came to it.

Luna had done everything that she could to prepare herself to receiveLuca when he returned. He had not even told her that he was leaving.He'd only been able to leave a note. She did not want to mind link himto not distract him from what he was to do. She remembered how hehad rushed to her side the last time she did it not knowing that it waspossible. He had gotten to her in the woods thinking that she was indanger. She didn't want to summon him like that. She missed him somuch it was as if her body was craving him.

“Luna, get a hold of yourself.” She said out loud. She was the sameLuna who had lived her whole life alone never having many friends, andthere she was needing Luca. Ever since her first transformation whenshe'd seen him in her dream she was lost. She had changed. Sheneeded him. She needed to feel his arms wrapped around her. Sheneeded his warm embrace. She needed to look into his beautiful eyesand to feel his lips cover hers.

“Ahh,” she groaned as she realized that it was getting late and that shehad to go get ready for dinner. “Damn you luca. Couldn’t you have toldme how you feel after you returned?” she thought to herself as shesmiled. “My Alpha, my king, My mate. Where are you? I need you now.”She got into the shower and ran the warm water hoping that it wouldcalm her.

Luna fought the urges that she was getting and went down for dinner.She couldn't get her mind off him. She joined the others at the tablewhere she couldn't believe her ears. They were surprised to see her asshe hadn't come down for meals in a while. Those power-hungry elderswere planning to oppose Luca and fight him for the throne.

“Well, well, well. When the cat is away the mice will prey, I guess. TheKing is not even cold in his grave and here you are planning tooverthrow his heir even before he sits on the throne. A throne that isrightfully his.” Luna said and sat at the Luna's seat at the head of thetable. “You're not yet His queen, a so-called mate is what you are.Everyone knows that you only came in the picture since Lucian was soclose to the King. For all we know this whole thing is a set up to securehim the throne.”

Luna was peeved at their insinuations. “Well, you're not even going todeny it. Let it be known that Luca has my full support. Not one of youingrates in this room can beat him. Hell, you can't even beat me, hismate.” She laughed. Just then the room fell silent as she felt a familiarhand on her shoulder. She turned around to see her Luca standingbehind her. “Luca, you're back!” She exclaimed as she jumped out ofher chair to embrace him. She looked up at him with love in her eyes.He looked down at her proud to see how she defended him even in hisabsence. “I've missed you so much.” He whispered as he took his seatat the head of the table completely ignoring the rest of them.

He looked over at Nina's adopted parents and said “Your daughter isthe reason that my father and Lucian are dead. The crimes that shecommitted are heinous and still my father chose to overlook them andallow you to continue to sit at this table. Today, here you are, speakingout of turn, disrespecting my Mate and me. Your prince.”

Nina's father opened his mouth to speak but Luca shouted, “DON'TINTERRUPT ME!"

“Everyone who feels that they have a claim to the throne, everyone whothinks that they can overthrow me OUTSIDE NOW! I challenge you to afight. The only way you will get to the throne is through me.” With thathe let out a growl that shook the palace and headed outside

Luna looked at him with longing. He transformed and took on the firstsecond and third of the lot without even trying. The other opposersbowed down to him realizing that they never stood a chance. “Let it beknown that to challenge the Lycan Prince is to challenge the gods. I amnot my father. I will not tolerate treason nor insubordination. As of nowit is safe for the crescent moon pack to return to their lands if the see itfit. The problem of the witch will be sorted in good time.
