The Lycan's Soul Mate -
Chapter 8 Tensions Rising
Luna got home and went straight to her room as she needed to take inall that had happened to her today from her acting like an idiotfollowing a scent to her becoming spiderman overnight. Luna didn'tknow what to think or how to even explain what was happening to her.Maybe it was just her time. She had spent most of her life being madefun of by persons whom she thought to be her friends. Maybe it wasjust time that this outcast began to shine. She thought about howexhilarating it felt when she did those warmup exercises and notforgetting how she set a record inn rope climbing something that shewouldn't dare attempt in high school. She remembered how everyonewanted a piece of her after this happened. She practically had tohightail it out of the gym. What did this all mean? Was there a logicalexplanation to her change?
She put on some sweats and grabbed her phone and headphones anddecided to go for a run just to see what she could do so she wouldn'tbe surprised in school. She headed to the tracks leading up to thewoods. Luna ran. She felt so free. The run relaxed her and she began topick up her pace. She was going so fast but she was not afraid. It felt sonatural. She got to a river and sat for a moment to take in the beautyand serenity of it all. Luna sat for what seemed to be forever thenrealized that it was getting late then started to run back home. Whenshe got home, her mother and stepdad were seated at the table havingsupper. He stepfather seemed furious. “Where have you been Luna? The least you can do is let your mother know of your whereabouts.” Herstepdad shouted angrily at her. She looked at her mother who seemedto share his sentiments. “Luna it is 7:30pm. Where have you been?”Luna looked at her parents intently asking herself why they were actingso strangely. “Well, I'm sorry but I came from school, and decided to gofor a run to clear my head. I am 17 years old and I was not aware that acurfew was in effect” Her mother shot back at her “Luna it doesn'tmatter how old you are but as long as you are living under our roof andbeing cared for by us you will live by our rules. From now on when youget home from school you will not leave without our permission” “sonow I have become a prisoner in my own home? Where is this comingfrom anyway. This is my first day of college. Instead of you asking mehow my first day went you would rather make me a prisoner? Wherethe hell is this coming from? What have I ever done to deserve this?”Luna stormed off and went upstairs to her room and got under theshower. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she tried to make sense ofwhat was happening. Where did this attitude from her parents comefrom? She had no friends, she never went out with friends, she didn'tdrink. At this point she didn't have a life which is why she didn'tunderstand why her parents were acting this way. Especially on her firstday of college. Luna got really upset and had to start taking deepbreaths to calm herself. She looked outside as she put on her Pajamasand realized that the moon was almost full and had started to rise. Shefelt so calm looking up at the sky that the harsh words that her parentshad uttered were forgotten and she just went to bed.
Luna did not know that her stepmom had seen Lucian at the grocerystore and was afraid that he was back to take Luna. After the death ofhis brother, Luna's father; he had stuck around for so long looking forLuna. She had lied to him telling him that she never met Luna. Shedidn’t want him to take Luna away from her as she knew that he hadguardianship as Luna's father had made it clear that she was to be sentto his brother should anything happen to him. Now after all these yearshe was back and it could turn ugly for them. They could go to jail forkeeping Luna from her family. She couldn't risk it and would have toreplace a way to keep this secret buried and keep Luna away from him atleast until he left. She felt bad snapping at her like that but so muchwas at stake here. She needed to keep her from him. But how?Soccorah was seated at the dinner table deep in thought when she wasconfronted by Luca who had been seated at the dinner table staring atSoccorah for the longest while. This was so unlike her. She was alwaysthe one to initiate conversation. She was always into everyone'sbusiness and to be seated silent was a cause for concern. Nancy hadstepped out on one of her dates, so Soccorah and Luca were havingdinner alone.
“what's the matter; you sick or something?” he asked jokingly. Soccorahthen snapped out of it. “Thought you would be happy to get somepeace with me in my own thoughts instead of out in yours.” Lucalaughed loudly. “Am I not allowed to be concerned about my girlfriendor cousin or whatever the hell everyone thinks we are?” “What? ....Never mind. Remember that girl I was telling you about from myAnatomy class? “How could I forget the old lady with the white hair andbrows.” He said with a weird grin on his devilishly handsome face.” “Youpromised not to make fun of her. It hasn't even been a full 24 hoursand you're already at it.” Soccorah muttered in annoyance. She thenstarted to tell Luca how Luna had had climbed the ropes faster than herand how her stamina was above average.
Luca asked her whether she thought that she was a wolf, but Soccorahcould not answer that question as she had no other evidence of Lunabeing supernatural. The one thing that she knew for sure was that hernew friend was definitely not human, and she would not stop until shefound out what she was. Luca thought that she was overreacting, butshe wasn't. Luna was supernatural and she just needed to replace a way totest her to be sure. Good thing they'd become friends. I would be sogreat if she were. They could be themselves and maybe Luca could getsome action. She smiled to herself, finished up her supper and went tobed. Luca wet upstairs to sleep but he could not get what Soccorah hadsaid out of his head. As he lay in bed with the full moon so close histhoughts were of the beautiful white wolf running through the woods. He wished that she would be his.
