The Mafia Bride (Katrina and Silas) -
Bride 90
Chapter 90
Katrina's POV
It's been a few hours since I woke up, and I've been pacing in my room. Everything I had in the previous room were all burnt, not that I had much to begin with.
I didn't come here with anything and the only things in there were the clothes I got from Silas. So it didn't matter.
A few hours and I couldn't forget the heat against my skin, how helpless I had felt and the terrifying feeling of death. This was the second time I was feeling this way. The first time was when Phillip had tortured me
And I still couldn't get Maria's accusations out of my

head. She had tried to make me look like some desperate liar in front
Like who would try to set their own self on fire? It felt as if I was constantly repeating this question but I wasn't some sort of psychopath that would try and kill themselves.
And do you know the worst part? Silas didn't fully believe her, but he didn't completely believe me either. I had to clear my name. It was actually something that could be done with a little common sense, I was with him for a while. I went to my room and then it was ablaze, The fire seemed like something that was planned out but it seemed his brain was being affected by old age.
I wanted to storm up to him and demand to know why he didn't fully believe me, but I couldn't.
Two maids had come in earlier to bring some food for me and it seemed as if they actually thought I had set my room ablaze. Maria had said it and to them, whatever Maria said was law.
Feeling frustrated, I let out a groan, running my bandaged hands through my hair.
I could still feel the smoke choking up, and I took a deep puff from my inhaler. I've been feeling that way for a while now,
my lungs. like I was still stuck in the fire and I had smoke in
I wasn't stupid. That fire wasn't an accident, that much was obvious. And I wasn't going to sit around waiting for someone to finish me off next time. Whoever wanted to kill me really hated me enough to try to set me ablaze.
And to be honest the only person I could think of was Maria, the conversation we had before I went into Silas office and what she had said after I woke up.
It really wasn't hard to think about. Who would gain from my death right now? I'm not certain anyone
I needed proof-something solid to expose Maria. She had to be behind this. She just had to.
Finally deciding on what I wanted to do, I fell on my bed because all the pacing was starting to wear me out.
I was going to bring proof to Silas and show him that Maria was the one who had done it all.
Late that night, I crept out of my room. The mansion was quiet, the dimly lit halls casting shadows around.
I kept turning around, feeling the stares of people behind me. But each time I turned around, I saw no one.
My palms were sweaty, and my heart raced with every step I took toward Maria's room. If I got caught, I'd be in trouble- serious trouble. But I didn't care. I wasn't going to let her win.
She had tried to take my life, and the most I could do was expose her. But would Silas really care?

Chapter 90
To the rest of the Famita members, it would be a good thing if somehow ended up dead. Possibly in the most painful way possible
Her door was slightly ajar, and light spilled into the hallway. I could hear her voice, irritated. It seemed as if she was on a call with someone.
I stopped in my tracks, pressing myself against the wall just outside her door. The best thing to do right now was to eavesdrop
"She's still alive. Can you believe that?" Maria snapped. Her tone was filled with anger.
Her words showed just how frustrated she was and I knew it was the right idea to come here.
"That pathetic girl should've been gone by now. I don't know how she keeps surviving."
I clenched my fists, trying to keep myself calm. She was talking about me.
Was I supposed to drop dead just because she wanted? I couldn't understand her logic to be honest.
This could only mean that she had tried to kill me, but I wasn't a hundred percent certain about it yet. She just had to say it.
"She's becoming a real problem," Maria continued. "I can't have her around Silas anymore. She's like a stain that won't come out. It's pissing me off."
I felt sick hearing her words, but I forced myself to stay still. I needed to hear more-something that could prove she was the one who tried to kill me.
Then Maria said something that sent chills down my spine. "If it weren't for Phillip barging in, she'd be gone. Ugh, he always has to ruin everything." That was it.
It was her. She was behind the fire.
I didn't have my phone to record it but hearing her say it was all I needed.
I stepped back slowly, careful not to make a sound. My heart was pounding in my chest, my breaths shallow. I had to get out of here before she noticed me.
Staring one last time, I waited to see if she would say anything else but after she remained quiet I took that as my cue to leave.
Just as I turned to leave, her voice came, cutting through the air. I'm
"I know you're there, Katrina."
My blood ran cold, and I froze.
