What Dalores said was unpleasant to hear and made Tasha look like a terrible candidate. Tasha herself couldn't help but fall into silence.

"That's because_"

She didn't know how to explain, but just as she tried to, Dalores cut her off abruptly.

"Besides, you're pregnant now. Working will only burden others, not just yourself. And you haven't had a job in a long time. Is fashion just a game to you? As you know, W Marks is not just some small studio on the side of the street. People like you will only drag us down."

Janet's eyes widened in shock. How could Dalores say something so nasty?

She couldn't stand it anymore and stood up to stop Dalores from continuing.

"Dalores, we've never stopped expectant mothers from working with us before, nor have we blacklisted designers who have gap years in their resumes. This is serious discrimination. It doesn't make sense to ask something like this in any interview. Your prejudice towards this applicant is a blatant violation of W Marks's values."

"Why, you-!" Dalores didn't expect that Janet would silence her with such a reasonable argument, and she was at a loss for words as a result.

Tasha was also at a loss. But when she realized just how much Janet cared about her and defended her, she plucked up the courage to explain herself. "It's not what you think. It's true that I was a housewife for a long time, but after that, I chose to divorce my husband for personal reasons. I really want to get back into the fashion industry. I've even applied to all the major studios. Although I'm pregnant, I can manage and I don't care if I have to start from the bottom. As long as I can get close to my dream again, it'll all be worth it."

She really wanted to get back to work and dip her feet in the world of fashion again.

"So please give me a chance," she added with flourish, bowing respectfully.

Dalores sneered at Tasha with contempt. She wasn't convinced by Tasha's sincerity at all. "No. We have to replace an employee that'll help W Marks grow, not a pregnant woman who'll drag us down. You're not a good choice for our studio. You can leave now."

"Wait a minute," Janet said through gritted teeth, stopping Tasha.

She locked eyes with Dalores coldly and said, "Tasha is clearly more qualified and more talented than the rest of the applicants. Why don't you want her? Is it really just because she's pregnant? Or is it because you want your friend to be hired instead of her?"

Her eyes lit up with fierce determination. Clearly, she wasn't going to let this matter go until Dalores gave a reasonable explanation.

Dalores was rendered speechless.

Gritting her teeth, she pointed a finger at Janet and shouted, "Don't talk nonsense here! This applicant's going to have a baby in a few months. At the time, she'll ask for a maternity leave and the company will be forced to give her a paid leave. She'll just cheat the company! Does that sound unreasonable to you? Go out and ask around what kind of company accepts such employees!"

Tasha offered an explanation. "I certainly don't want to take advantage of the studio. I just want a job as a designer."

Dalores rolled her eyes sarcastically. "Then work at some other company. Why do you have to work here? Oh, I see how it is. Did you make a deal with Janet? Did she promise you that you'd be able to get the job here at W Marks?"

Tasha didn't want Janet be caught in the crossfire, so she sighed dejectedly and said, "Stop it. I'll go."

"What's going on in here? I could hear you quarreling from a mile away."

Draco walked into the conference room with a frown on his face. He wanted answers.
