The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 18
Alpha Colton POV
A couple of days had passed. My warriors were still watching Jessica. They reported back to me every couple of hours, unless she was on the move, then they contacted me right away.
She lives a pretty simple life, basically bounce from home, to a little coffee shop where I believe she works. Other than that, she really doesn’t venture out very much.
Today, the witch is coming to chat with me. I’m anxious to hear what she has to say, hopefully she has some answers for me. In the mean time, I’ve been looking after pack business, but in Josh’s office.
I’ve been avoiding Heather like the plague, she’s been more of a nightmare than usual lately. I’ve been so preoccupied, keeping a watchful eye on Jessica, that I haven’t really had anytime for Heather and she’s dropping her not so subtle hints.
The Luna ceremony is fast approaching, so she’s been bugging me to help out with the arrangements. I really could careless about the ceremony in general and I have no interest in event planning. If she wants this ceremony to happen, she can plan it herself.
I was busy with paper work, when Josh Min-linked me, that the witch had arrived. I told him to bring her to my office. I would meet them there.
I had drawn out what I could remember of the tattoo, the best that I could, hopefully it’s enough for her to recognize it.
I made my way to my own office and sat at my desk, waiting for Josh to arrive. A few minutes later, there was a knock at the door.
“Come in” I said.
The door open and Josh walking in, followed by a women. She certainly didn’t look any different, than a human.
She was in her 40’s, around 5’7 with brown hair and brown eyes. She had a slim build and wore glasses. She was wearing black pants and a green blouse. I would describe her, as nerdy looking.
I stood from my chair and to greet her.
“Good morning, thanks for coming. I’m Alpha Colton” I said, while extending my hand to her.
“It’s no problem at all. I’m Gloria, nice to meet you.” she replied with a smile and shook my hand.
“Have a seat please.” I said and pointed to the chair across from my desk. Josh sat in the chair next to her. I know he’s also been quite curious, about what the witch would have to say.
“I asked you here, because I’ve come across a woman recently, who’s a bit of a puzzle. She stumbled onto my territory approximately a week ago. She has no scent, not even human. She also has no memory of her past, she currently lives amongst the humans. I noticed a tattoo on the back of her neck. It looked something like this, does it look familiar to you?” I asked, sounding hopeful, while passing the piece of paper with my drawing on it, over to Gloria.
She took the paper and I instantly saw her eyebrows furrow, as she took in my replica of the tattoo. I know it’s not perfect, I couldn’t remember every detail, but I tried my best. She was silent for several minutes and she looked both confused and curious.
“This is definitely a wearable protection spell. I can’t be certain by your drawing, I would need to see it in person to confirm, but I think, this is the work of a very powerful witch. There aren’t many still alive, that can create such powerful spells…” she said and it seemed like she trailed off from her sentence, lost in her thoughts. Her eyebrows were furrowed and she continued to stare at my drawing. I could tell, she was having an internal battle with herself.
“Do you know of a witch, with that kind of power?” I asked, again sounding hopeful.
“I used to, her and I belonged to the same coven, many, many years ago. She was extremely powerful, her name was Bethany. After all the witches were killed, only a few of us survived. I never found out what happened to Bethany. She would be the only one, that I am aware of, that has enough power for a spell of this magnitude. It’s one thing to mask someone’s scent, but to also erase their memories, that’s not a simple task.” Gloria said, while shaking her head in disbelief. She looked looked concerned.
“Why would someone use such a spell?” I asked, already having a pretty good idea, but wanting to hear it straight from her mouth.
“Well, the biggest reason, would be if you’re trying to hide someone. Based on what you’ve told me, if this woman is living amongst the humans, I would say that it’s likely to hide her from someone. She must of been in extreme danger, because for someone to take all her memories, is a pretty drastic measure, I would think there must of been a good reason to do so.” Gloria said, with the same concerned frown on her face.
“How can we break it? We know she’s likely a werewolf, but she doesn’t remember anything about the supernatural world and without a scent, we can’t be sure of her heritage.” Josh asked, with his own concerned frown.
“I could have a look at it, but if it’s the type of spell that I think it is, there’s not much I will be able to do. You would need to replace a witch, with equal or stronger powers to break it.” Gloria replied, with an apologetic look.
“Thank you Gloria. I really appreciate you coming here today and answering some of our questions.” I told her truthfully. At least now, we more or less confirmed what we were suspecting. A spell was casted on Jessica, that’s why she has no scent or memory.
“It’s no problem at all. If you get her here, give me a call. I don’t mind coming out and having a look at the spell. If I see it in person, I can confirm if what I told you is accurate.” Gloria added, with a small smile.
“I will. Thank you.” I replied, with a thankful smile.
“If that’s all Alpha, I’ll be on my way.” Gloria said, while standing from her chair.
“One more thing Gloria.” Josh said and paused for a second, while Gloria looked over at him.
“If she is a werewolf and this is a masking spell. Would it also mask the ability, for her to recognize her own mate?” Josh asked curiously and I saw a mischievous glint in his eyes. My b***d started to boil. It was a good thing Gloria was in the room right now, or I swear to the moon goddess, he’s be dead.
“Yes, it would. It would mask most of her abilities. The biggest way for one to recognizes their mate, is by scent. Her not having one, would cause her mate not to recognize her but also, since her wolf is practically unresponsive at the moment, she wouldn’t be able to recognize her mate, even if he stood directly in front of her.” Gloria said and now looked curious. She was probably wondering, where the very specific question came from.
“Thanks Gloria, that’s all.” I replied, while glaring at Josh. He just doesn’t know when to quit, I thought to myself.
“I’ll escort you out, Gloria.” Josh said, giving her a smile.
I watched as Josh and Gloria left the room, leaving me alone. I immediately mind-linked Josh, telling him to come back once Gloria was gone. I’m not done with that a*****e. He likes to push my buttons, I wish he would just drop the mate thing. I’ve already committed to taken a chosen mate and that’s not going to change, he’s wasting his time.
The meeting with Gloria, wasn’t a total waste, we actually found out quite a bit of information. I’m a little worried that replaceing a witch, that can break the spell might be difficult, given the limited amount of witches out there.
I’m starting to believe, that Jessica didn’t have any bad intentions, when she stumbled onto my territory. I treated her poorly and she didn’t deserve any of it.The poor girl just woke up from a coma 6 months ago, with no memory. She had to start her life over and what did I do, I locked her up in the dungeon.
What have I done? I let out a sigh, while rubbing my hands over my face. Not only that, but I withheld food and water from her. She must think I’m a complete monster.
I was brought out of my thoughts, when Josh reappeared in my office. He had a big smirk on his face and I was ready to smack it off.
“Do I need to teach you your place, Beta?” I growled out.
“No Alpha, it was a legit question. What if she’s my mate? I’m still mateless and I know of other warriors that are also. Now we know, that anyone of us could be her mate and we wouldn’t even know it.” He said, while trying to keep an innocent face, but I didn’t miss the hint of a smirk.
“Just drop the damn mate topic, ok?” I spat out angrily.
“Yes Alpha.” Josh replied, while sitting back down across from me.
“What now?” He asked, with a more serious tone.
“Honestly I don’t know. We won’t be able to keep warriors on her forever, but after what I did to her, there’s no way she’ll come here willingly.” I replied, with a frustrated huff.
“Maybe it’s time we have a talked with her? Explain the basics of the supernatural world and go from there?” Josh suggested and it wasn’t a bad idea.
“How do we get her to actually sit down and listen? She’s scared shitless of us and I don’t blame her.” I replied.
“Speak for yourself. I was a total gentleman.” Josh replied, with a playful grin. Goddess, why did I pick this asshat as my Beta?
The conversation was cut short, when I got a mind-link.
‘Ummm Alpha, we have a problem. We lost Jessica.’ One of my warriors, that was assigned to follow Jessica, informed me.
‘WHAT?! How?’ I replied angrily, through the link.
‘I think she caught on to us following her. After she left work, she started walking home and I noticed she was looking around more than usual. She went into her favourite Chinese restaurant, where she often picks up food. She never came back out, we waited an hour and nothing, so we went in and she wasn’t in there. We found a back door, that’s how she managed to evade us. I’m sorry Alpha.’ My warrior reported and I was both angry and worried.
Damn it, if only she knew that she was being hunted down, by one of the cruelest Alpha’s out there. Goddess knows, what his real intentions are with Jessica if he replaces her. I need to make sure, that I replace her first.
